This is sort of ridiculous, but are there any videos, tutorials, or books on taking random junk and designing puppets out of it?
Particularly the mechanisms involved to make it all work while still looking good.

Good luck finding a torrent

That's definitely close to what I'm looking for. I'm guessing there's nothing else like it.

Puppets are a ridiculous niche subject. I love them and find lame yt vids and few pages from what looks like the 90's.
Dont even get me started on animatronics. Talk about some black arts. This is someone into special effects since childhood.
All that hits the main stream market is cut foam, use hot glue and paint, have fun kids! But i can find long winded tutorials on cosplay, silicone babies and pipe shotguns but not too much for building an internal tendon system for facial contortion.
Sigh...

Mostly cut foam, hot glue and paint. It will kill a few minutes.

This can be real useful.

Tell me about it.
It seems like it would be a fun hobby to get into, taking cartoony designs and rigging them to work in reality, but there's just not enough content on it aside from pricey Stan Winston videos. If I wasn't a NEET I'd buy the puppet course and upload it, but in the meantime I'll contribute this guy.

He shares some semi useful stuff, though it all feels pretty niggarigged.

It would probably be more beneficial to learn how to carve foam, though there's not much on that either. Working with a pattern is a lot less organic when it comes to the final forms.

Sadly none of this stuff really helps me on making things like this.

When I was a kid I taped every episode of "Movie Magic" from discovery channel. Lost the tapes. Now im older and the whole series is up on yt. This is specificly articulation and animatronics.
Oldie but a goodie.
