i want a wet line on my work truck. how would i go about installing a hydraulic pump/pto on a little 4 banger toyota?
off a pulley? the transmission?
For your load an electric pump will likely work.
What do you plan to power? You can check out tow truck suppliers online for other parts. I strongly suggest visiting your local industrial hydraulic store to see what they have. They can crimp custom hoses for you too.

compressor and a winch, problem being i don't think my trucks alternator or battery could handle both at the same time. it barely could handle the aftermarket stereo i uninstalled.

If u can get a spare battery, mount it ground it. Then hook it up as a separate system to run the pump. No reason to run wires and risk draining ur battery if its already being overwelmed. There should be tons of dyi articles on this for u if this is the route u wanna take.

Battery power is OK for emergency stuff. Not so good for doing work. You could fabricate a bracket and run it off a belt from the engine. Use a magnetic clutch (from an air conditioning compressor) to disable it while driving.
If your truck is a 4x4, see if you can get a PTO attachment for the transfer case.

I'd run a gasoline engine powered compressor and consider a Mile Marker hydraulic winch if you need to winch a lot. If it's occasional winching then I'd use an electric winch. Welding cable is great for connecting them. My winch is in the back of my truck because it would be useless for my needs up front. An extra battery is useful but the wording "separate system" is incorrect. You can get battery isolators to protect the battery you start with.
Mile Markers work very well. http://milemarker.com/product_type/hydraulic-winch/
I use commercial Ramsey winches (electric and hydraulic) but Ramsey doesn't make a kit like Mile Marker.
Get high output alternators and secondary battery with kill. So it charges but is only used when u turn it on.
