I've got to blow a ton of insulation into my attic this weekend. Previous owner did a super shitty job and the whole attic is a mess.
How do I need to go about covering up things like pic related before I cover it with 5-6 inches of blown insulation? There are also a few light fixtures that are exposed on the attic side as well. I don't want to burn my house down!!
Good god it never ceases to amaze me how shitty all the electrics are in burgerland. Like wtf is that speaker wire or some shit? jesus
>fibeglass insulation

Blow-in insulation is paper-based, unless it's neato-skeeto vermiculite (asbestos).

Thats 12 guage romex you filthy third worlder. How is that shitty in any way? I will admit its bot the neatest wiring job but its not the least bit unsafe.

get the foam buckets to put over your can lights. also foam baffles if you have ventilated soffit.

i've got blown in fiberglass in my attic unless there's a special type of itchy cellulose

I have soffits over the front porch area, but no baffling in the attic. Do I need to add some kind of short wall to block the insulation from going over that far, or should I just rake it back if I blow over the soffits?

Alright, looks like none of the stores around me carry the foam buckets for the back of can lights.
Do you think that it would be fine to work up some doodads like pic related to place over the lights?
Also, I realized this evening that I don't have ventilated soffits--just one big air duct on either side of the attic. When do you need to add soffits?
Thanks again for all of the help.

forgive me if i'm being dense here but, don't the junction boxes already protect from this?
>>1107276
not him, nor are you being dense, but, hes (probably..) more worried/referring to the attic-exposed upperside/temp of lamps mounted in the ceiling in rooms below, as opposed the wiring/boxes/etc. - basically, the wrong side of a ceiling-mounted light ffitting - would have found pic, but now drunk, this (pic -not-particularly-related) will have to do. And no, idk either.

To me the issue is more about ul listing and insurance coverage than if it's actually likely to cause a fire, so diy boxes would be a no no.
