I just recently completed Turning an old Federal Sign and Signal model Ten Ten monitor radio in to a small 15 watt per channel "boom box".

...why?
Took a piece of sheet brass and cut out holes for the speakers.
Painted it.

cool beans man, I love the re-appropriation/upcycling of old obsolete junk.
The Radio/MP3 player came from ebay and the small 15 watt per channel amp came from Parts express, but they sell the same one on ebay. the parts I bought cost about $25.
I also installed a 2200mah LIPO battery for portability. It will run for at least 4 hours without charging. longer if the volume isn't maxed out. The speakers came out of a set of either KLH or Optimus speakers (I forgot exactly).
The amps can hadnle 4 to 8 ohm speakers.

Why not?
This is one of 2 that I bought. One only works on VHF lo frequencies (30 mhz), the other was VHF high. I took the best of both and made one good one that I used for VHF HI for my local fire department dispatch.
Inside the VHF low one before I gutted it.

The small Mp3 FM stereo radio, has a clock, can take a backup battery, read SD cards and USB drives. uses a remote volume control is on the player and not the amp. The volume knob is only there for it's power switch.
the amp works off of 12-16vdc 2 amps. Sounds good at high volume with no noticeable distortion.

>One only works on VHF lo frequencies (30 mhz
You mean frequencies below 30mhz, so HF?

Fair enough then
