there are herb databases, if it interests you I doubt you'll have a problem reading about them.

why stop at herbs though, there are plenty of other chemicals that the body reacts to in similar ways.

I'm mainly concerned with plants because I live near a forest and I have the time to forage/gather plants

Seriously OP don't fuck around with medicinal plants. I have see patients take a lot of "natural remedies" that fucked their health up. The worst thing is that people don't tell their doctor that they are taking it. That way he can't check for dangerous combinations.
Plants are ok to use if you know what you are doing, the sad thing is that most people don't. A lot of modern drugs are made from or based on plants but the compound is isolated, the the purity constant and its accurately measured.

Except the pharmaceutical industry is loaded with fraud on a massive scale.

Many drug companies lie about the contents and purity of their drugs and it takes years for them to get caught.

well you shouldn't buy stuff from India or china without it being checked by a locally based company.
Besides this case was about bio-similars, a lot of it is still in a legal grey area.
I don't know about the US but where I live we have strict regulations on pharmaceuticals.

Not here but in south American it's very frequent for drug companies to look out in local communities for plants that are being used for some time as treatment to they can use them too. I used many phytotherapical for symptoms of colds, parasites etc and they've all worked. Maybe in north america things are a little diferent because of the low bio diversity I don't know.

Sup plant nigga, you need to track reputable authors not just some fancy coffee table shit. There are a million or so books on herbalism and a million more on wildcrafting, foraging,
wild food.
If you take your time and research you will be able to sift out the gold from the shit.
On herbalism I recommend looking at these authors to get started:
Dr James Duke
James Green
Rosemary Gladstar
Juliette de Bairacli Levy

Also look at Lynda Runyon the essential wild food survival guide, all the plants discussed can be found in most countries are medicinal as well although Lynda focuses on nutritional value on plants, well worth knowing.

It's one thing buying books on herbal shit but you seriously need a good identification book or 2, absolute positive identification no matter what time of year it is a skill which will define you as either a fool or competent.

There's a great site called herbmentor which has hundreds of hours of video lessons, ebooks, articles, instructions and more from herbalists around the world, it's not free though, costs about 90$ a year but you can get 2 weeks for 1$ to see if you like it, you can download everything in those two weeks (make sure you have the space first) and cancel. Perfect to get you started.
