I'm sanding the paint off a guitar

I used a heat gun and the black paint pealed off. I sanded the rest but theres these weird circles in the wood.

Am I down to wood yet or is there some kind of thick wood filler on top of the wood?

See the chip in second pic. It looks like theres some yellowish wood about 0.5mm underneath.

Thats stain or putty?

it has already been filled with putty. that's why someone painted it. You may have to scrape all that shit out and use a stainable putty if you plan to do so

Looks like it has a thick poly sealer/undercoat on it. Stop fucking around with sandpaper, and slop some methylene chloride stripper on it.

It is better to stain the work piece and then match the puddy to the stain.
