Hey there I'm looking to get a vintage Russian sovtek small stone but I'm not a big fan of the tone suck or volume drop. How easy is it to switch the footswitch to a true bypass switch?
if you have to ask, it's beyond your abilities.

I've just heard that the circuit is pretty messy and im not familiar with their circuits.

install a 3pdt footswitch instead of the normal one. Check google how to wire a 3pdt switch

Can we stop this meme already? How do you think people get better at doing things if not by attempting things that are a little beyond their abilities?

Says the guy to whom staying not fat-as-fuck is beyond his abilities (literally the easiest thing for a man, and you can't even do that)

This is exactly why people ask, you dolt. Would he be asking if he already knew how hard it was?

You can build an external true bypass looper into a little Hammond enclosure, or you can wire this same circuit inside the Small Stone. I'd be inclined to leave the existing switch where it is in the circuit and secure it somewhere in the interior, leaving it in the on position. Then I'd wire pic related in.
>disconnect effect circuit from input and output jacks
>solder new 2PDT as shown to the input and output jacks (you don't really need the LED so 3PDT isn't really necessary, just more work)
>solder the circuit input where the send jack is connected and circuit output to where the return jack connects
Now the effect is always on but the bypass shunts your guitar signal around it. You may or may not get a pop when switching, but you can add a resistor to ground from the switch to mitigate it. I've also seen people leave the existing switch where it is and add the bypass switch in a corner if there is room. If you've never worked on pedals before, I would actually recommend building the external looper. It's good experience and there's no chance of fucking up your Small Stone.

We have a winner. If you want to get really fancy wire up the light
