How can i connect 3.5mm audio jack to this potentiometer to aux amplifier.
I want this potentiometer to be "middleman" beetwen laptop output and amplifier input. Anybody has any ideas?

Thats a variac you mouth breather.
Hook it up linearly to make it a reostat.
use pins 2 and 4 for the wire input and output.

if you have time, could you make schematic. I would be very grateful

I don't think this is the right way

Its not rocket surgery.
Just put it anywhere on the cable. Even if you fuck up it wont brake anything.

i forgot i can put both parts of cable in same pin...
>>1070928
but what will happen, because im practically shorting aux cable

Laptop output will be stereo.
Do you have two of the potentiometers?
>>1070955
yes i do, both are the same

>separate knobs for left and right volume
Sounds cumbersome. At least they're indexed I guess..

You could replace the innards with a stereo potentiometer. While you're at it, use a logarithmic pot or the adjustment range will suck like in your current pot.
That, or you could couple the two pots mechanically with a belt or something.

I did this many years ago for a 'couch side' volume knob
My gf wanted to reuse her self powered Apple HK speakers (that didn't have a remote) with our LCD projector. So I just keep the volume cranked up on the speaker's amp and used a dimmer module to reduce volume from a manual a/v switch for the htpc/xbox/laptop.
I found a neat looking knob from the cabinet section of the hardware store and affixed it to the pot box mounted in the av cabinet by the couch.
That said it looks like you can get a prebuilt setup for like $8 in cable form and about the same in a wall plate form factor.

Search 'rca cable potentiometer' , as they are more results for people doing this for preamps.
