Oh, hey there big brother. Just a friendly reminder to wipe down your tools with WD-40 before putting them away. Remember, quality tools are an investment, okay?
>>1069870
go put your fucking safety glasses on when you come into my shop.
>>1069870
>wd40 instead of a silicone based oil
wipe with motor oil not WD
I'd let her wipe down my tool with WD-40 if you catch my drift.
I smell a trap... how many grills even know what WD-40 is?
>>1069919
>how many grills even know what WD-40 is?
All of them.
Its advertising has made it a household name, to the point people use it for stuff its not made to do.
>>1069870
relax kali, its not like anyone is going to die if i dont
>>1069899
Motor oil is a carcinogen
>>1069940
So is high blood sugar and beer lard ass
>>1069947
>carcinogen
"..Alcohol-free beer 'stops cancer'
>Drinking non-alcoholic beer may ward off cancer, research on lab mice shows.."
and, which particular substance would you like me to prove helps prevent, causes or cures cancer next? Like porn, if it exists? Theres a cancer-related article on it, both positive aand negative. "3 glasses of (alcoholic) red wine a week" either prevented or cured as well, cant remember which. Its all bollocks. Still, wouldnt rub Wd40 on my nob for fun tho, but, each to their own.
>>1069947
>bloody sugar as rust protectant
Can anyone confirm?
>>1069967
Yeah dude. Best kept secret. I toss a cup into my gas tank every now and then, really cleans up the rust deposits.
Speaking of which, anyone have that photo of the engine the guy poured sand in because he thought it would polish it?
>>1069870
>not using a tub of alcohol
>>1069870
fuck off you stupid cunt
Seriously though, wats the best stuff for keeping rust off tools? Bonus points if it doesn't feel greasy to the touch.
>>1069870
O-ohh, h-h-hey, I w-was just building a... Uh... Do... D-do you like manga? I was sorta t-thinking about like, watching it in VR, w-with like, Google cardboard, and...

Duct-tape + WD-40 is a household combo.
>>1070092
Cosmoline
Coat your tools in it, put in wooden crate, leave in back of leaky Soviet warehouse for 100 years, retrive once roof has collapsed on crate. Tools be like new comrade
Bonus points, the greasy feeling of using cosmoline coated tools will make your hands look like real man not sissy girl.

Fun fact WD-40 stands for Water Displacement, 40th formula. It was created by Rocket Chemical company and was originally designed to protect the outer skin and, more importantly, the paper-thin balloon tanks of the Atlas missile from rust and corrosion. These stainless steel fuel tanks were so fragile that when empty they had to be kept inflated with nitrogen to prevent them from collapsing. Turns out it's good for a bunch of household stuff so they decided to mass produce it.
If you use WD-40 it means your tools are thin and shitty and you can't afford the good stuff

what kind is best for rust protection and won't degrade long term?
jesus just use some petroleum jelly.

Keeping your tools dry
>>1070287
>petroleum jelly.
i work on wankels though
>>1070275
Shear stable polyurea grease.
Don't mix it with barium complex grease, though that isn't disastrous (conventional polyurea grease can't mix with anything at all).
>>1070334
>putting grease on tools
These are tools not bearing races you sissy. No one wants to reach for a wrench only to have your hand coated in shmoo. Just use the WD-40 faggot
>>1069965
>non-alcoholic beer
YOU ARE ALL WRONG.
The only correct answer is lanolin. Pure, uncut sheep grease.
>>1069870
surface rust doesn't make tools stop working, slut
>>1070421
this guy is right
>>1070092
WD-40 Specialist Long Term Corrosion Inhibitor won a few comparisons, but they were on stationary pieces of metal, not tools being used. Put SOMETHING on your tools, and then just wipe down a couple you already have out whenever you end up with a greasy rag. Keep some camphor in your toolbox.
>there are people on this board, right now who don't store their tools in a hermetically sealed, dehumidified antechamber
>>1069969
He poured it into his air intake.
>>1070132
Another fun fact, they applied the stuff daily, so unless you feel like wiping your shit down with it every single day, you'd be better off using oil, grease, or wax.
I personally prefer 3-in-1 for my tools, since it has that nice citrus smell.
>>1070337
Grease is for long term storage. Oil won't last for long term storage. Oil is for short term. WD-40 isn't even for short term. Didn't your father teach you about proper tool care?

I always use a cup of sugar in the gas tank. Ethanol is a bi-product of sugar cane, so adding sugar to your gas tank turns it into around 20% ethanol, which is alright, as long it is 1992 model upwards with Alloy blocks. It cleans your engine and you get alot more Milage.
>>1070780
Fuck that nothing but petrol goes in my tank
>>1069873
fpbp
>>1070422
That's not entirely true. I suspect your experience is limited.
>>1069870
WD40 is shit for this purpose, use PTFE grease to spray instead.
okay so the best way to keep metal tools perfect is to buy a large container and submerge my guns, tools, and blades in motor oil? will it ever go bad?
>>1070780
sugar in the gas tank is a meme. sugar isnt miscible in fuel, it will just clog the fuel filter.
>>1072757
Correct. Sugar does not dissolve in hydrocarbons. Styrofoam, on the other hand...
>>1069870
You know I use camphor in my tool cabinets, get that hateful scum away from my lumber.
