Working on this little shit here.
I'm gonna hang him from a tree out front.
Will give a how-to if wanted.

bought a blank movie accurate mask last year, taught myself how to paint on cheap chinese masks, then went on to create pic related

I had pics of me in the outfit but not sure where theyre at, if i find them I'll post

made the full outfit, only thing I didn't like is I'm not bald, so I had to use a black spandex face mask to hide it the best I could. cut ear holes out and used black makeup to cover all visable skin to go with the black skin look in one of his movies

I wanted to work with latex and create a bald and deformed head mask to wear, but never got around to it. Guess I still have 1 1/2 months if i really want to...
>>
>>1057187

I also wanted to get a real machete and dull the blade / line it with black electrical tape to avoid injury to myself or others, but surprisingly I couldn't find one anywhere, so I had to settle for whats in the pic

I'm gonna make what looks like a miscarried fœtus out of plain clear gelatine and food coloring. I'm going to do it in layers, starting from the inside structures and pouring more layers one at a time around the outside to cure, so it has real depth and translucent realism.

>dark red or blackish gut/innard layer
>some bones
>outer fleshy brown/orange layer, including ribcage
>covered in pale clearish skin
>plus brain, large pale eye, etc.
>blood vessels winding throughout
>injections of fake blood sealed inside the gelatine layers so they can puncture and bleed

it's gonna take some trial and error but it'll be glorious! the plan is to sneak it into Wendy's™ concealed in a ziploc bag with some fake blood and umbilical cord and dump it into one of the toilet bowls and GTFO. the gelatine will slowly dissolve and it'll get slimier and slimier and the blood pockets will leak from the inside. even the eye might start to dislodge hehehehehe

Every year I set up methanol/boric acid torches with electric matches hooked up to motion detectors. Always get a kick out of kids shitting their pants when big green flames kick up out of nowhere the second they reach for the candy bowl.
Been thinking of getting a projector, painting some cheesecloth a dark grey and doing some spooky stuff that way.
>>
>>1057398
and thats why i said ill dull the blade. not a little, to the point of being salvageable as anything but a costume prop, effectively making it a metal plate with a handle.

>>1057707
I considered this but I really want to go for a "real" look, not sure I could create a makeshift item that looks 100% not handmade without wasting more time, energy, and money than just buying a mass produced one

also at a warehouse i was working at a few years back they had some really sturdy and hard cardboard "planks" that ran along the corners of stacked pallets, would have been perfect, maybe I can find some of those (as itll take much less time and money to try and make one out of cardboard vs metal)

anyone have any experience with silicone/molding? anyone have any idea how much making a head mask would cost me (Assuming I need to do 2-3 due to trial and error)?

I'm still pondering giving it a whirl before halloween

I usually go to my local bar on Halloween like I would any other normal night, but I don't dress up. Inevitably some drunk college girl will ask me "what I'm supposed to be?" with her stupid ass knowing full well I'm in normal clothes, to which I always respond with "I'm dressed up as someone who doesn't want to talk to you."

It surprisingly sometimes gets my foot in the door depending on how drunk they are and if they like being dogged on.

1Apply a layer of cheesecloth to head, then generously brush over head and face with glue. Use hands to smooth the cloth into the facial features. Don’t brush down the neck; stop at chin level so the fabric is loose below that.
2Repeat until you have 4 layers (each 7 feet long) of cheesecloth. Let dry thoroughly. (No need to dry between layers.)
3Tatter edges of cloth with scissors if desired. Attach a screw eye with a bit of glue to the top of the head; thread with monofilament to hang from hooks.

yeah don't use glue with solvents in it (rubber cements, spray adhesive, etc. just stick to standard elmer's or a glue stick, or wood glue or something. make sure it dries white or clear, and not yellow!
>>
>>1058736
I made pic related out of metal bar stock--you would literally just need a grinder to cut the rough shape out, and then hit the rough spots to smooth it out and make sure everything's dull enough for costume purposes.
Bar stock is like $10 max. Scrap wood for the handles should be free.
This is DIY, brah.

As for silicone molding, doing a headcast on yourself would run about $200. I've done it, it takes hours if you don't have someone very experienced helping you. Even if you're not claustrophobic, it really tests your comfort levels having your entire head encased in a quarter inch of silicone and plaster bandages. Would not recommend for a newbie to the process.
After that, cast a copy of your head in plaster (Hydrocal and Ultracal are recommended, but pottery plaster and plaster of paris *could* work for a one off project).
Use clay to build up a mask, and cast a negative two part shell in plaster, being mindful of undercuts and how you intend to remove the skulpt when finished.
Clean out shell, slush cast a base color of quality mask making liquid latex in it. Might need multiple coats to achieve desired thickness.
When fully cured, remove mask and paint. Different effects will require different painting methods and materials.
>>
>>1058917

I wonder if that would work with a sheet for an adult sized one. Hit it with glow in the dark paint and leave it on a darkened bench in a park/backyard.
>>
>>1058977
200 bucks? Jesus fuck. I assumed I might be looking at 50-75 tops

anyone have any cheaper alternatives than silicone?
>>
>>1059086
I'm starting to seriously doubt your commitment to Halloween, and maybe even "doing it yourself."

If you want the back of your head to look deformed like Jason's on the cheap, get a bald cap kit, scar putty, facepaint and liquid latex.
It will require a lot more effort to apply, but would look awesome. Youtube videos of how to put on a bald cap, and videos of how to do Twoface makeup. Combine the concepts to the back and sides of your head.

To seal in the paint colors of a twoface costume, I have had great success with going over the finished work with a thin layer of liquid latex. Details will show through, but it will take on a slick and gross look.
>>
>>1059104
Not for nothing, but im a cheap sob too, I can't justify 200 on a mask

Same fagging
A buddy from work had to sell his Halloween stuff, a full car load, including a packed trunk for $150. His wife won't let him have parties lol

Between what I had, and what I picked up, I can make about 25 4 foot to 7 foot props
I can animate 4, haven't picked out which ones yet.

I'm very diy,but my main problem is staying focused on anything lol I've got 6 mostly done, and another 10 in various stages

I'll post pics of completed props if anyone's interested, just don't want to hijack the thread

Also I'll start posting some of the tricks I've found.
Such as, This is the party flyer (make 2 versions, with address, phone, one without) it being black looks good for texting... or invert, and print on orange paper. it's cheap, low ink invitations
>>
>>1059173
His wife sounds boring as fuck, but if it means cheap Halloween props for you, that's a score.

Do post some pictures. That seems perfectly on track for this thread.

Yeah, it ended up being more props than I likely have time for

my neighbor threw out a hanging bench swing, so I grabbed it, broke it down, and made much needed stands

There's a good will outlet close to my house, where you buy per pound. We went down and got a shopping cart full of material and accessories that really helps

The dress, and veil came from there
We broke down a crappy skeleton, added a 2 dollar mask
Hair is a scarf lol

Spray out 4 small lines about 8 to 10 inches long

Spray 2 blobs about 3 inches across

Paint

I'm making each layer and all the bits and bobs separately with different colors and heaviness of gelatin. the kind you eat is 1 packet per cup of water, i'm doing like 2-3 packets per cup depending on the layer.

bottom layer is just gonna be a flat cutout to start. then i'm gonna make dark, heavy gut bits and place them on top. some brownish-translucent bone bits, and start winding some red thread and yarn. it's all going to be sealed-down and "painted" over with more gelatin to hold it all in. then some more blood vessels, the eye, etc etc. The top layer is going to be cutout and glued in with more wet fairly heavy gelatine, and then i'll texture and distress it so it looks like skin. it'll be heavy and rough, but just translucent enough to look like it's really a developing baby without betraying it as a jell-o mold.

here's a side-view of my general idea
>>
>>1060137
Sounds like a bit of work, but sounds like it'll really trick some one. Dunno if I'll have time to try one this year, but it's going in the file of shit I wanna try

Gonna make some wooden pumpkins out of pallet wood, program my own candles with some ATTiny's or something. Was thinking about putting in red led eyes and a distance sensor so when trick-or-treaters get closer the eyes turn on and get brighter as they approach. Maybe just put in some RGB leds and changing colors inside every few minutes

Nice thing is I can just re paint the wooden pumpkins every couple of years instead of carving pumpkins every year xD

Then on halloween night I put on the screcrow outfit and just sit out on the porch with the candy

Theyre expecting you to scare them so theyre on edge. They always back away and never turn their back on me.

I wanna make a globe to use as the base for a chain chomp helmet. How should I go about this? Layering foam? Wire? I tried looking up deadmau5 heads thinking I can do something similar, but the guides I found mostly start with "Buy this size of globe, then cut a hole in it for your neck..."
>>
>>1063803
1. get a cheep $0.99 rubber ball from walmart or a dollar store or whatever
2. get a bunch a newspaper
3. tear the enwspaper up into little strips (couple inches long - don't get lazy this works MUCH better with small pieces)
4. mix regular ol' elmer's glue with water so it's thin and runny
5. use a paintbrush to wet and layer the newspaper strips onto the ball
6. keep going until it's a few layers thick and you've got the general shape you need, eyes, mouth, etc
7. pop the rubber ball and carefully pull it out the bottom without damaging the paper head
8. use scissors to touch-up the shapes,
9. paint, lacquer, decorate, etc

Well, got the first prototyle fœtus done. Gelatin is very hard to work with. It's not as 2d as it looks in the pic, it's actully fairly chunky has several layers, veins, etc. I think with the fake blood it might just work, especially if it's floating in a buck or toilet bowl.

I might give it another go now that I've got some practice. This one's chilling in the freezer for the time being.

sounds like your dad was one of the ones who just couldn't handle it. maybe he should stay in the house. pic related.
>>
>>1070222

Handle what? If you mean being in the military, I can understand why not. He was a vietnam war vet ( he passed away a few yrs ago) during his time in, he ran around with a giant zippo lighter on his back (flamethrower) so I can see why he has ptsd. Listening to the screams of ppl being burned alive as you smell their flesh being melted. Seeing your team mates killed by traps, being shot, etc. Good reason to have ptsd.

He was a good man, loud noises and shit jumping out at him, did it for him. Which he was on meds for it. Come to find out my step mom made him stop taking them, cause all he would do is sleep and eat because of them. I hate that woman.

If you don't mind braking the bulb you could undo the base and put an LED with a small button battery in the base and glue it back on.

Alternatively use a CFL and a tesla coil.

Just made a gourd jack-o-lantern. Apparently historical jack-o-lanterns were made with turnips and squashes (pumpkins are native to North America and jack-o-lanterns predate the colonies). Once I found that out i resolved to never make one out of a punkin again. They had a lot of gourds and wartly squashes and even turnips to choose from, but I chose this knobby guy. The flesh smelled quite nice and the seeds looked perfectly bakeable, although I didn't bother doing that. His name is Harvey. Having a spoopy autumn woods campout tomorrow night and he's gonna be our night light.

Bumping with my gourd jack-o-lantern.

Camped-out in the back acres last night and it was pouring rain to the point of flooding. Couldn't get a fire going for several hours until it died-down. Luckily I brought my jack-o', as it ended-up being our only source of light/comfort for about 3 hours. Stayed out in the deluge and the candle didn't so much as flicker.

I have a full time job and shit time managing skills.

What's the quickest creepy halloween mask I can make that will look like some old school psycho in a suit?

I was thinking about stapling/sewing a bunch of dirty latex pieces (from gloves), making some holes to it and fixing it to my head with rubberbands.

Can somebody advise me before I start? Will it work?
>>
>>1075057
is this the mask you're going to go with? I'd say try and hit either a goodwill type store or a fabric store if you want to sew it. Go with a white pillow case or piece of fabric. Make brown wash with water and brown acrylic paint to do an easy dye for the color.

If you do gloves, get no powder. don't want to get that shit in your eyes. Staple job might not look too bad depending how you do it.

Instead of rubber bands, they have this stretchy white elastic band at the craft store. About a dollar for 5 ft I think. Easy to sew or staple. Plus it won't pull your hair when taking mask on and off. Found it in the same area as needles and thimbles. You can usually find the stuff for on the masks already.

They do sell white face masks at the craft stores for stupid cheap since they are already busting out Christmas bullshit. Craft store near me has all Halloween stuff 60% off. Even if it's not Halloween, they always have coupons. If look there first to piece together what you want.

I've been using spray foam in latex gloves and go from there. Yours looks a lot better

I could probably use 4 sets of hands/arms for various props. I like the layered latex method, it would really make some gnarly hands
>>
Did makeup for the skull using paint, latex, and hot glue for the brains. Worm was made using epoxy clay.

>>1075663
Thanks! This was my first time at doing something like this. Took me about 2.5 hrs to make including the paint job. Stuffed the hand with unraveled cotton balls and sealed the end with fake blood. Hardened as it dried so no need for glue outside of the finger nails.
