Hey yo, does anyone know a good way to figure out how to drive these kinds of brushless motors? They're from floppy disk drives. The one I have has six wires coming off it, and it's chip is an LB11917.
im thinkin they go to those fancy gold pads commin out of the wires

I should clarify that the pic is not mine
The six wires probably are for controle the chip LB11917 (I just found the datasheet for the LB11920 -- PWM drive motor three-phase).
So these wires are for control the IC that drives the motor.
These motor can have two configuration.
Three coils and common or only three coils.
You can spin using PWM in each coil with delay between phases. It's very hard to do, because you need a closed-loop controller since it can lost the synchronization very easy in open-loop.
So I recommend you search about that LB119XX and figure out how to use it.

Are you sure it isn't a stepper?

Can you post a pic of yours then?
