How safe is treated wood for:
>Raised-bed gardens
>Outdoor tables (eating food off plates on the tabletop)
>Outdoor furniture

I've heard everything from treated wood being safe for gardens to not even safe to stand on.

Garden's it leeches the chemicals. Okay for flowers. I suppose Okay for veggies but it will have trace amounts.

New treated stuff doesn't use arsenic any more. So you just gotta research the new chemicles used to see what else they are used in.

Tables are fine. As long as you aren't eating the tables.

Walking on is because of splinters.. But yeah.
>>
pretty sure green has arsenic in it. don't inhale when cutting
>>

The "new", safer, arsenic-free stuff is greener than CCA. The color comes from the higher amounts of copper in the preservative.

i'd like to smoke a chicken with some treated wood and have it tested just for laughs
>>
unless you're licking the wood, I wouldn't be worried

if you want to use it for the garden, line it with plastic
>>
When I worked at a lumber yard we exclusively used ACQ (alkaline copper quaternary) for our outdoor treated stuff. They recommend a specialized cutting blade, but it's very minimally toxic. Would probably still wear at least a paper filter mask when cutting just to be safe. I have no idea if it would leach into the soul much.

can we get a priest to answer this?
>>
ACQ &CA-B preservatives are fine for vegetable gardens. Despite common perception otherwise even though copper does leech into the soil (keep pressure treated wood away from streams) plants won't take it up. And if they do, it will usually kill the plant first before working its way up the food chain. And even if the plant did take up some of the copper, most people's diets aren't significantly vegetable based anyway to make any difference.

afaik it's only bad if you inhale smoke from it. it's even fine for cutting boards if you coat it with oil properly like you should be anyway
>>
>>1042690
Won't work. Too juicy. You can't keep the chicken lit long enough to get a good drag off of it.

lol'd
>>
Meh, why fuck with treated wood when virgin wood is cheap. It's not like it's great wood anyway.
>>
>>1044702
Yes but it won't rot and for small projects it's about the same price as standard framing lumber and far far cheaper than cedar. If it's safe, then why not use it.
>>
I once ate a piece of treated wood in building class because it was funny.
>>

Everything is safe until someone inevitably links it with cancer.
>>
>>1043350
Speaking from experience?
>>
