Can I accurately water jet cut 1/4" handy panel (MDF)?
What will happens if I do?
>>1041170
even if it didn't blow out the back which it almost certainly would the board would disintegrate after about a nanosecond due to absorbing all the water floating around
MDF swells with atmospheric humidity.
A single drop of water causes MDF to blister.
Accidentally leave MDF out in the rain and watch it turn to mush.
So, theoretically you COULD water jet cut MDF
It'll be a worthless unusable pile of soggy scrap
But, hey, it on you.

>not plasma cutting MDF
>>1041174
I don't really have any other cutters available but a water jet cutter and I need it done in the next week. I'm doing a few 10" circles with some mounting holes. Would it really turn out that bad?
>>1041175
>Would it really turn out that bad?
Yes. Water and MDF do not mix at all
>>1041176
not even a little? I submerged the corner of my handy panel in water, pulled it out and dried it and nothing changed.
just go do it, stop asking the internet for permission
>>1041170
water canĀ“t melt mdf!!
I shall help you my special friend. I work in the industry, and I'll let you in on one of our most secret of trade secrets. Okay. Are you ready? Here it comes.
Use a fucking saw, dipshit.

I'm making circles

Hollow circles or normal circles?
>>1041191

>>1041193
I'm cutting these plates out of a 2x4
Actually I dont think it's MDF, it's this

Is that fine to waterjet cut? Thought it was MDF for some reason
>>1041191
Use a jigsaw, i use that to make holes in speaker cabinets.
use a router with a hole cutting jig
>>1041200
I would, but I'm using my schools machine shop and they don't have one of those.
>>1041201
>machine shop
they have a water jet but they don't have a CNC mill?
>>1041202
Closest thing is a milling machine like this
>>1041203
you can do it on that. set the center of the disc at the proper radius away from the mill head. use a T-nut to bolt the center of the disc to some sort of fixture.
rotate the piece about its bolt axis. pic related. you'll get perfectly cut circles ezpz.

Y U GIVE AWAY SECRET?
>>1041196
Yes, vinyl is fine to waterjet.

fuck you tryna say lad you want a scuffle?
>>1041219
>Material: Manufactured Wood
Vinyl is only thin veneer on the outside. Inside is most likely regular particle board, maybe MDF.
Either way no good for waterjet.
I'm interested on how do you want to finnish sides? If it's MDF you can paint it and it will look OK, but if it's particle board no matter what you'll do it will look like shit.
