I just threw away a bunch of junk from the small 'pockets' a couple days ago and the remaining (useful) stuff tends to fall out since the slots have been loosened by the aforementioned garbage. I don't want any of my shit dropping out of my wallet at any time. What do?

How about fashioning a flap sewn to the top with velcro or a snap at the bottom to cover the slots?

There isn't really much you can do now. Leather always has some give to it and it sets after some time. Soaking it in water and then drying will shrink the leather (even more so if you use hot water), but it will shrink all the leather and probably result in misshaping the whole thing, Another thing is that leather is anisotropic as a material, A competent leatherworker takes this fact into account when making something, but this doesn't look like it was made by a competent leatherworker.

Just make yourself a new one, it isn't hard.
