Soaking works way better. I had to do this with a toy the other day, soaked it for an hour or two and the mark came straight off with a bit of paper towel.

Soaking it can destroy other parts. You never apply more cleaner than is absolutely necessary.

Marker wipes off instantly with acetone. There's never a need for soaking.

What I do to get permanent marker off of stuff is I take a dry-erase marker abd draw over it. Then the permanent marker comes right off when you wipe.

Or use acetone
