So my muffler blasted off my mower the other day, unfortunately leaving the threaded piece inside the engine, with only the small ring part that was inside the main muffler body protruding. Unlike the pic where it was removed properly.

Any attempts to budge it with a wrench or pliers have failed, no amount of wd40 had made a difference. Any tips or am I stuck with a 140db mower?
>>
Cold chisel or big flathead screwdriver to get between the thread and there mower. Good luck anon, also be aware that two strokes need an exhaust for back pressure to run right.

>Cold chisel or big flathead screwdriver to get between the thread and there mower.

or chisel + hammer to turn the threaded piece
or hacksaw blade to split the piece and take it out
---
never seen a two stroke mower in the US before
>>
Dremel and chisel, cut slot into male threaded piece, use appropriately sized chisel to unscrew thread.
This way you don't ruin the female thread on the mower.

Really?
Lawnboy used to make a ton of them. They still made them in the USA till like 2004

2 stoke mowers in the US are about as rare as a walmart shopper that isnt fat

Now now, a lot of Walmart patrons are methheads.

I had to hammer mine old one out years ago with just a hammer and cold chisel.

An "easyout" might work but its probasbly too large for that.
>>
Well, it seems you have a tough situation, the easy way would be to just keep going at the threading to make it come out, or you could just tac-weld it on.
>>
>>1025501
Who has a 2 stroke mower any more

... is that a pulley on the top?
>>
>>1025782
thats how it was done before the recoil was invented.
Notice the notch on the far end, thats where you would put a loop of rope then wrap it around the pulley.
>>
>>1025782
Not that guy but even I know thats for the pull starter.
>>
>>1025782
>pulley
pully? that where you wrap the starter rope silly boy
>>
>>1025791
Its pulley dingus.
>>
>>1025789
>before the recoil was invented.

It was a common mod after the recoil spring died also.

If you take the recoil off the engine the recoil cup will most likely have a notch in it so you can wrap a string around it.
>>
>>1025505
They're mostly used on weed whackers now, or other very small engines. Haven't seen one on a mower in over a decade.

If you think that's wild look up the old Detroit diesel 2 stroke, it was a truck/tractor engine from way back in the day.

Get the biggest pair of vice grips you can find and latch on as tightly as possible. Put a wooden dowel in it that fits snug to prevent it from collapsing.
>>
50:50 mix of acetone and ATF poured onto the threads and left sit for a few minutes will loosen it up better than wd40
>>
I wear foam earplugs when mowing with any mower. Reusable and washable (the G.I. method is leave 'em in a pants pocket), they work great.

or 'penetrating oil", also better then WD40

This picture reflects a unscrewed muffler with the threaded pipe in tact, their is no damage.

Just screw it back or go to home depot and buy a replacement muffler.

Pic is related ask OP

Figure out the size of the threads and use a thread cutter to "recut" the threads. I had something similar happen on an engine block and I just used my tap and die set to cut the excess material out.

I would try the cold chisel myself 1st, but:

use a dremel tool with a grinding stone and grind the steel back from the id until you can just see the peaks of the aluminum thread all the way in. Grab a pair of needle nose and grip the end of the now helical strip of steel (what remains of the thread) and wind it out of the aluminum.

you may need a scribe with a bent tip to really get down into the threads to pick out the last bits of steel.

Mind you I would not try this until I was desperate.

Best bet is likely sharp chisel, hammer, try to use edge to turn whole thing. once it breaks loose you should have no problems
last ditch efforts...
if you have a steady hand or can put it in a drill press or vise etc, you have a few options.

1.Dremel with right angle, using a small cutoff wheel in a couple of places, try not to get into the threads, then you should be able to force the weakened section into itself, like getting a pipe out of a fitting.

2. reciprocating saw with fine teeth blade, maybe even an abrasive diamond blade, same thing, try to weaken/pull out a section.

3. if all else fails, and you have a press or some kind of jig, drill small hole just between muffler and block to give yourself a place to pry to collapse it. you'll have to seal hole of course, solder or braze.
