If the pins won't fit in the breadboard, don't force it. Just cut a little bit of lead off of some resistors and solder them to the legs of your component. Then plug it in in whatever orientation you like.

You just stick it it? They do fit kinda tight, I have to rock them left-and-right a bit to get them down but they fit into all 3 kinds of breadboards I have around. The pic is some IRL-Z34 mosfets I had close by.

If you ask "how to connect that back metal part", you usually don't NEED to connect that.
In many of these devices, the back plate is connected to one of the leads, but sometimes it is floating. You need to check the data sheet to find out which way it is, and when you must use a heat sink with it. Beyond a voltage or a current amount, the specs will advise to use extra heat-sinking.

Sometimes the back plate is soldered down to copper to act as a heat sink. If that is your concern, you just get a little clip-on or screw-on heat sink and put that on it.
