I actually went the other direction. It depends on the device, but I found it better to actually pull it as far forward as possible for several reasons.

Part of that is just how ball trap devices work. Some things that minimize it are better fitting base rings, the shortest tube that matches your flacid size, and cages made out of hard materials (plastics and metals, not silicone.)

Also cages that point downwards (like the HT) instead of outwards (like the CB) are a bit better at managing things. Still all that bloods gotta go somewhere.

Just spending time in the cage will help as well, after a while your body does sort of adapt. Like I don't really tend to get morning wood or random erections after being caged a few days, something has to get me turned on. In general erections aren't very forceful or long lasting. Once I get out of the cage it usually takes one night and then everything's back to normal.
