It seems like the character, her helmet, and the trophy were done first as the real art and then were simply pasted onto a generic background.

The floor/wall look fucking awful, they're terribly dark and almost formless. The couch is also obviously an afterthought, it has the bare minimum amount of shading done and was never touched up-- compare the shadows on the couch/blanket to the shadows on the helmet and trophy. The couch's shadows have ragged edges while the helmet has nice, smooth transitions from bright to dark.

I assume he doesn't give a fuck because nobody pays for him to draw backgrounds, but I feel in this case he might have chosen a lighter/more grey background because the parts of the character that are directly over the background (her head, her knee) are fairly dark around the edges. Dark edges on a dark background tend to blend away, and the character loses some detail.

I almost wonder if he designed the image to show off the tits and dick... this would surprise me as he obviously put a lot of detail into the entire character (Look at the beckoning finger, the calves, even the roller skates.

Dmitrys is a master, I've always wanted to see some of his non-porn art that he's put effort into.

I'm not an artist, but assuming you're starting from nothing here goes: start with learning how to draw with pencil & paper. Using a pencil is trivial, you don't need to learn anything to start drawing, and pencil/paper can be used most anywhere. There are lots of resources online or books at the library that will cover perspective and shading. If your drawings look like shit, find an artist or a book or something and figure out what you're doing wrong.

Once you get the basics down you should be good moving onto actual digital stuff. You just want to be able to tell the difference between your fuckups and problems with the computer/program/tablet. If you have some wonky setting on your PC and you learn to draw with it, you're probably gonna feel some pain down the road. There are gonna be a lot of tutorials for using all the program settings that you mentioned: linework, layers, value, hue, color, blending, brushes, shading, etc. Going through those will help you get accurate digital representations of things.

But you won't be done after that. There's a lot more to art theory if you want to be as good as or better than Dmitrys. Composition, color theory, how to make money as an artist, plus more stuff I'm sure I've never heard of. Stuff like this is what art school is for. Good art schools are going to teach you the theory of art....
A basic artist will be able to accurately reproduce something they see, or illustrate something they imagine. You see a cat, you imagine if it had an afro, you draw a cat with an afro.
A trained artist, who has gone to a good art school, will not only do that but they'll also know how to create an entire SCENE that is VISUALLY PLEASING, and they will know how to MARKET THEIR ART. You don't just draw the afro cat, you draw the afro cat jumping across a river to her little afro kittens, and on top of that you convinced someone to pay you for it.

If you have the opportunity to take 2D or digital art classes of any kind, go for them-- most of the skills are transferable. It takes a long time to become a good artist and it takes a lot of patience to sit and spend a total of 6+ hours on a work of art. Keep working, keep practicing, keep drawing, but ALWAYS keep your eyes on the prize and CHALLENGE YOURSELF to do better. Find artists to critique your art.

Wow thanks anon, I woke up this morning to an intro to art lesson lol. Thing is I had been drawing with pencil and paper for the longest time, even got sort of good at it, even started to understand and draw perspective at least on a large/simple scale like buildings though most of my drawings are horribly flat viewed from the side because holy shit 3/4 perspective or whatever that is called is hard.

Like 2 years ago or so I just gradually stopped drawing, and its been over a year since I drew anything on pencil and paper, I just got demotivated and kind of tired of traditional media, I wanted to experiment with color but I also want to finally get into digital painting so after a while of not drawing I really came back with renewed motivation to making art, downloaded a trial of Corel Painter 2016 and I gave myself this month (length of the trial) to play around with it, learn and try digital painting, experimenting with color etc.

Right now I'm experimenting with values and hues and shading in corel and watching tutorials, but since I used a pencil and paper for so long and never really understood or used color before I'm just doing that all in greyscale for now. I don't want to market my art though and don't think I'll ever get as good as artists like Dmitry I just want to be able to approach a somewhat compotent level, make full color paintings that arent blurry and shit looking. I'm still experimenting with brushes and how theyre used etc.

Cant take classes right now though, beyond watching tons of youtube tutorials on color harmony, perspective, shading etc. But thanks again for the advice and help anon, I realized a while ago that I dont want to ever market or sell my art just paint as a hobby and for sharing OC on 4chan when I get better at it.

Another thing to maybe help you along and keep you busy would be to try doing some photoshopping. Specifically, check out some tutorials for shooping a person onto a different background-- the most important thing to make that look real is to match the lighting up. That particular use of photoshop forces you to learn where light sources are coming from and how different materials react to light. If you have a picture of a person who is outside on a sunny day, and you have another picture of a dark bedroom, cutting and pasting ain't gonna cut it. It'll look blatantly photoshopped.

Just fukken pirate it if you're using it. Or check if they have a trial version that doesn't let you save your files. Definitely try and get some kind of drawing tablet if you think you're gonna stick with the hobby and you'll use it. Using a mouse is slow as fuck.

That photoshop thing I actually do do that but with Paint.NET, I actually kept doing it for a while even when I stopped drawing and fucking around in Paint.NET with tons of plugins and the clone tool became my only artistic expression, before I decided to try digital painting again. It does help a bit I've noticed.

Definetly gonna try and get a tablet, not Wacom but something in the mid price range. Drawing with mouse is a pain yeah, maybe the sooner I get a tablet the sooner I can get back to the skill level/technique I had with pencil and paper before I gave up on that.

mainly, my approach to editing these is to focus on the story while maximizing quality such that they can be shared in this thread and possibly pick up new dmitry followers while entertaining the older ones. to me, the hard contrast is just easier to read which i think is more important than the images themselves. these aren't meant to replace his original works. if you want the best quality, everyone should refer to those. these image/story combos are just there as a link for those that really enjoy the official stories that would like a quality (not best quality) reference to the original artwork. plus, they're in vertical format because that works best for the thread.

by all means, PLEASE upload your edits. there are so many stories that i've missed in the past. i only have a few more that i can upload then i'll be patiently awaiting your contribution.
