Okay guys, I've followed these threads for a while. I have extensive history in Game Maker (nothing super capable but does make fairly good 2D games)

I've played a lot of /d/ themed games and the ones like Parasite In City, LAB Still Alive, FOBS and those sorts really hit a spot for me.
I'd love to make one - but there's one issue. While I can program the game and make music for it, I can't sprite for shit.

There's usually at least one glaring issue I didn't find while playtesting that gets reported and hotfixed right away. Then I address bugs as they come in. If there are enough to justify a patch and I have the time to push one out, you get a later patch like this.

I've got some vague ideas for a text game I want to try to work on, but I still need to figure out specifics.

The basic idea is that you somehow have influence over a class at a school, and over time, you can slowly "corrupt" the class by getting everyone hooked on different fetishes and so on through various events. Everything would be tracked for each character (fetishes, sexuality, arousal, etc.), and these stats would determine random events that happen throughout the day. Early game, characters might sneak off to fuck, spy on the showers, etc., and possibly late on, if everyone met the right requirements, the class might end up in a giant orgy. I would probably start off with a limited number of students, and maybe a couple of teachers/faculty.

I'm still trying to figure out the details and get it to a scope that might be manageable. I'm messing around with Twine at the moment to figure out what I'm capable of. I probably won't get much done, but it's at least fun to brainstorm up some ideas.

As for advice, set a couple tentacles to grab so she won't get away, use strike a couple of times, then grab her arms so she can't use them? The first encounters don't have much health, so if you're really suffering, you should be able to quickly beat them into the ground and get some xp, which you can spend on accuracy. The issue is that the Egyptians didn't really wear armor. The African climate wasn't great for it and bronze at the time was actually really shitty for armor, with only the Sherden Mercenaries having the quality of tin to make decent bronze that could stand up to the rigors of combat. Egyptian bronze was actually worse than cowhide stretched over a wood frame when it came to dealing with swords and spears.

If you want to go with a rank-and-file soldier look the 'armor' is just a leather loincloth and belt with a wide leather band or two over the chest and shoulder. A large shield would also be accurate but I don't know if you want to waste time working that into the event descriptions.

An issue you're kind of overlooking here is that the era of "Ancient Egypt" encompasses a time period consisting of a a couple thousand years minimum. There is no standard "Ancient Egyptian" armor any more than there's consistency between the armor of Operation Desert Storm soldiers and crusaders.

You're seriously overestimating the rate of military technological advancement of the ancient world. It took longer than the time between the Crusades and Desert storm for Egyptian infantry to switch from stone maces to bronze axes. The Egyptian reliance on levied soldiers up until the New Kingdom period also contributed to a slow rate of advancement, with them being left behind technologically on multiple occasions (such as when the Hyksos showed up with composite and recurve bows and conquered the place).

So while the Egyptian kingdoms lasted for almost two thousand years their rate of change in military custom and equipment was very slow up until the New Kingdom and even that period of a professional Egyptian military and the introduction of the chariot archer saw relatively little advancement compared with later empires let alone since the industrial revolution.

I manage to break the game, dunno how or when but at some point my stats page shows me "You have an accuracy of and a dodge of ." Saving and loading does not clear it. I should have 5/2 for stats. Upon discovery my next encounter was with a warrior and I couldnt connect a single tentacle after spamming go about 2 dozen times. She also couldnt hit me at all so this is more than just a simple visual error, the actual stats code is broken somewhere. I would say with accuracy as I was only dumping stats in there.

To be fair on both parties you could always add a toggle for images.

That way those who are sensitive can play without them, and those who appreciate them aren't effected.

User comfort level customization is always a bonus in porn games, although I'd recommend focusing on your game goals first before trying to please everyone you can. lol.

After moving ahead with the initial stages of the game, I've realized that being super fuckin' vague with what exactly the main character is won't really work in the long run, not if I plan to work on the game beyond its initial release.

So I figured that I'd ask what people would like to see. As a refresher, for those who either can't be bothered to check the linked post or read this too late to: The game's focus is body/mind alteration in a variety of flavours, the latter primarily through inducing emotions, pleasure and so on. Possession is a possibility, though there's no actual content for it just yet. Mostly, it's toying with people: the game.

So what I'm asking is, what kind of being would you want to actually play in a /d/ game? Due to the nature of the focus, more or less anything from 'literally just some guy with magic' to ghosts, demons, parasites and other aliens is on the table.

Don't overextend yourself off the bat. I'd keep things with a modular humanoid as the basic template (with variants for each body part, similar to CoC). Extremely complex forms like parasites, or tentacle masses, or ghosts can risk greatly increasing the complexity of encounters.

Once you've got a basic, modular body system you could always add onto it later, or just add body parts with special attributes (e.g., tentacle limbs instead of arms for those into tentacle monster play). Don't start out with difficult and complex forms for players, for take sake of avoiding burnout.

What about something similar to Fetish Master?

In that game you're mortally wounded, so are given the ability to semi-possess others' bodies. By this I mean you can manipulate or order them (like a voice in their subconscious), and slowly train their behaviour or re-shape their body to into what you desire.

Maybe you don't need to do that exactly, but the basic premise of possession will allow you to use identical code for the player (host body) and other NPCs. It also fits perfectly your intended goal of manipulating others (though I don't know if you mean manipulating from a 3rd party perspective or from a 1st/2nd-party direct possession).

You could make the whole ghost or parasite or alien control thing more a character "class", with each type having its own particular flavour of bonuses and perks. But at the end of the day they'd all still be using the same host bodies, so it won't really add much to coding complexity.

As far as a plot it'd be like a Chromartie for deviants instead of delinquints. Mostly episodic, every day you go to school and have to find a way to diffuse or accelerate each one of these sexy/silly situations you find yourself in. Depending on the situation it might be really difficult to stealth through, but if it's not all a single storyline there's plenty of room for routes where you get exposed.

This will sound incredibly unhelpful, but pick whatever inspires you.

As you've said, the nature of the focus allows anything from magic to science fiction, aliens to hypnosis, scientific laboratories to ordinary towns. But at the end of the day, you're going to be the one writing this, so your engagement is more important than anyone else's opinion. Whatever inspires you the most is going to turn out the best, regardless of what superficial ideas people may be throwing out.

As the KISS person said, the first thing you should do is build the prototype to make the game actually work, ignoring the flavor completely. Figure out what works and what fails, and then you can determine what flavor bests suits the mechanics you have implemented.

If nothing else, remember that you can make the framework for your game without worrying about the flavor. Once you have the influence mechanics and the mind control, it's a simple matter to change the flavor to whatever you find most fun later on.

As it stands, the game amounts to capturing people, or waiting for them to stumble in, then doing whatever it is you want before sending them back out to observe the effects. Or keep them around. That's a choice too.

I suppose the only mechanic which would influence the choice would be that, as it is, it's impossible to actually leave the 'lair'. It might change, but it could just as well be incorporated into some possibilities, such as the MC being an AI, bound spirit, or what have you.

I'd also want to be able to customize the character a bit to my liking, nothing fancy, just things like being short or tall, which should be referenced in scenes if they involve the character (though that doesn't seem to be the case much in your game).

In general I'm someone who prefers randomness and procedural generation to VN-like stories, which feel restricting and linear to me, no matter how many endings they have.
Other people might not agree with this though.
