Me too, but it's incredibly difficult to do well. You either skimp out on the erotica and focus on the plot, or make it shallow and stuff it with fan-service. Once in a blue moon you'll find an eloquent author whose creative enough to write something worth reading while delivering on the smut, but that's pretty rare.

As a guy who digs murder mysteries, try not to put too much unstable "stomp the bugs"-type mentality behind the killer, rather, try to paint them as a psychopath who murders purely for an insatiable urge, but maintains normal life and contact around people within a circle of friends - give them a group of people they would never murder unless completely backed into a corner, while victims could either be random or follow a theme.

No, there aren't any strict notion of a "community". Most of us are just independent people who make size stuff for fun, and one of these is MMD.

There was one time where everybody uses GS uploader, but then you can't submit stuff with useful title and texts, which mean for expressive works it doesn't really allow you to be expressive (e.g I often write short stories to accompany a pic, and it doesn't allow that). Also, dramas that drove people out.
And then we moved to DA for like a year, but it's absolutely horrible to be there if you want any serious comments because most people on there are dumb. And for those who don't, you probably already have their twitter/skype/steam/whatever anyway, so for chatting purposes DA is irrelevant. Also, did I mention DA is like the biggest hugbox other than tumblr?
We then moved to twitter because it's more open, and allows you to talk about other things and post stuff that DA wouldn't allow otherwise because DA itself is dumb too.

(Then, you also need to consider new people. Getting touch with new people is much easier on twitter than on DA or anon boards, because chatting on there is very convenient. It's how we manage to get most of us connected.)

I don't like macrochan for a similar reason: for expressive works, you really want a separate page for them to stand out, instead of "yet another item in the big stack", which are mostly the place for generic stuff. I want my works to stand out individually, not to serve as shitpost material.

By the way, to be frank, from the quality of the macrochan threads I don't think I'd like to post anything useful there at all. Nothing's worse than putting expressive works among a whole bunch of generic works.

Still more training than someone who uses MMD for still images needs in order to meet quality standards for the medium. In drawing's case those are fairly high as you need to learn all sorts of things in order to make something even mildly appealing, whereas with MMD you can throw something together with rudimentary knowledge fairly easily and have it turn out only slightly below what is considered "good".

Most art that could be considered "good" by the general observer has "mess ups". The so-called "mess ups" that are terrible enough to be blatant are just the ones that are easily observe to the untrained eye. As in, yours.
And everything you just said about MMD serves to support that guy's point. It is a "medium", if you could call it that, with an abysmal skill floor/skill ceiling ratio. You're either slightly less than mediocre or slightly above mediocre. There are a lot of fine points that differentiate these two degrees of mediocrity, but in the end of the day, MikuMikuMotherfuckingDance in and by itself is a very non-versatile platform, hence why it's looked down upon and is essentially comparable to junk food. Something next-to-unheard of to be a method of producing something of truly awesome value, and also something next to impossible to be a wreck for its own standards.
