It can really go either way, probably my favourite kind is when they resist it at first but eventually get so horny that they give in and spur on the change themselves. I don't know what art they are use to doing but I try to seek out the ones that do TF sequences regularly. Also having lots of pictures to describe what you want helps. On the other hand you may have done that and they just suck at doing a commission on time.

After the artist receives payment, it should be 1-3 months depending on complexity. If there's no background and the artist isn't a god with adding complex colors and poses (just does something simple like celshading), artists normally finish within a month. Mind you, most artists take payment when they can actually start work on your commission, not "there's 20 other people in line, but give me your money now". 9 months is pretty unforgivable.

If you're the same poster with the tiger sequence and you're waiting for Taus, he's incredibly slow and has them as super-low priority. He's good, but not "I'm willing to wait 2 years for you to do this whenever the fuck you feel like" good. Just let him finish, send a reminder every 3 months or whatever, but just take it as money lost and a lesson learned to ask or check a consistent delivery time for future artists.

Well, in my case (tiger sequence guy) I got reccommended him by someone, because most TF artists are greedy fuckwads who want you to sign up for $50 a month on their Patreon for the right to "bid" on a commission slot so you can then pay them $100/page.

In this case though, the sequence is unforgivably shitty for something that took nine months to do. Notice how the breast size doesn't remain consistent between panels 4, 5, and 6 (the middle pair in 6 is freakishly small, the breasts in panel 1 look like they're stuck together with glue, and yet in panel 3 they're spaced way far apart) and there's a bunch of other shit wrong with it (nose in panel 3, the hair length not being consistent, the BE being underwhelming at best, the fact that I'd asked for height growth but all that really happens is her clothes shrink) that I had pointed out to him MONTHS AGO that never got fixed, most of which would require a complete or near-complete redraw of the entire image to accomplish.

The problem is that he basically completely ignored me, and instead of giving me what I wanted said "Fuck it good enough".

He's said he's going to fix it, and he'd damn well better.

Honestly all those problems you pointed out are trivial or unnoticeable from an outside perspective. But if you told him your grievances in a professional manner and it was your "one-time set of fixes to the draft", then he's in the wrong for brushing you off. It kind of depends on the price too since if the commission was cheap like $20 a panel, your money isn't worth them tweaking it, but if you paid like $50 a panel, then he better fucking draw it to the exact specifications you set. This is kind of why you need a litmus test for any artist - something dingy like a single, inked page to see if they care about making changes and how fast they take to get back to you.

And I would say the vast majority of artists have unsuccessful Patreons unless you were looking for the cream of the crop - which usually means they never, ever take commissions from plebs anyway.

I've always been offered or requested a single set of correction to the rough sketches, but I don't ask for an entire redo. If he has submitted multiple revisions to you and you still aren't happy, then you expect way too much from any artist. But it sounds like he hasn't done anything at all, and if that's the case, then he's giving you the middle finger for pointing out flaws.

And the worst thing isn't even the money - it's that after being pissed about it for so long, you won't feel anything looking at the sequence (if they even finish it).

I had a single image corruption pic that took fifteen months to be completed (meanwhile the artist was constantly updating his site and HF with new content). It could always be worse.

Unless he's provided evidence that he's working on it and actually progressed from when you last saw any sketches, tell him you're done. If he demanded a down payment, or even worse, full pre-payment, it's up to you whether you think it's worth giving up on that or not.

It would be correct that he's done nothing at all. I got zero input in the entire process - one day he just dumped shit at me and was like "This is it, this is what you're getting".

After the rough sketches I said I wanted changes. I was ignored. After the lineart was completed I reiterated my request for changes. I was ignored. After the godawful whateverthefuckthatis that I posted earlier, I asked for changes and I was ignored.

He's claimed, as I said earlier, that he's "going to fix these things" but I honestly doubt it - given that the sixth panel has so many flaws that a complete re-draw of the entire chest area and the face would be necessary and it's already been colored and "finalized".

Seeing all this talk of commissions and disappointed commissioners, I have to wonder if there is some place to share feedback and reviews of artists? Not necessarily to critique their ability, but their customer-friendliness and reliability.

I've gotten commissions from several artists, and there are some that I would count as technically inferior to others that I would still recommend ahead of the more "impressive" or well known artists.

And good customer service is usually inversely proportional to how good an artist is - especially TF artists since "universally decent" is comparatively "god-tier" due to the lack of content. So a lot of the better ones are incredibly arrogant and feel they're worth more than you pay them. If you find a high-grade artist that actually cares about making you happy with a product, you've found a diamond.

Artist here. They're correct. I work terribly slowly sometimes, and in this case failed to meet anything close to a reasonable expectation regarding completion times. No excuses there. If a refund had been requested, I would respect that entirely.

I also think there were some communication issues regarding the aforementioned alternations, given that I wasn't actually made aware of them until a couple days ago. As I've always said, I'll be happy to make any changes requested.

Okay, let me just say this now that I've gone through most of the anger I have with this piece.

You honestly took so long with it that about four months ago I was telling people I didn't even want it anymore. I'm sure it's probably a great piece but I feel absolutely nothing looking at it. It's a frustrating feeling because I paid a bunch of money for this and could've gotten someone who could do the work. You have absolutely no idea how frustrated I get when I see people posting sequences they've commissioned that in my opinion look a hundred times better than this.

If you want my opinion, the entire thing looks rushed and totally soul-less compared to some of the other stuff you've done. I look at that bird sequence you did for that one guy a few years back or that furry -> furry sheep TF thing from even further back and I'm like "Wow, that looks.. a lot better than what I got even though it's too furry for my tastes."

I know you can do good work, and I'm sorry if I sound like a total asshole but you can't even begin to imagine how frustrating this is on my end. I will admit that there are plenty of things I like about that finished end panel.

If it helps, I'd say almost the same things about that thing you did for Greywolf Blacksock - the legs on the first two panels of that look unfinished and it's almost like there's a line that reads "detail ends here" at the knee. I swear, if the fur on this looked as good as the scales in the second panel of that I'd be totally happy with it.
