Experiment with tongue/mouth shape. The smaller your vocal tract the smaller waves = the higher pitch "girly" sounding. The more open your mouth, the longer the waves have to travel = the deeper the voice.

Also, headspace. Speak from your nose, your mouth, throat, chest.... all of these have different outputs. Finally, try listening to a recording of yourself trying these out/putting your hands around your ears to simulate an outsider hearing yourself.

In theatre, we have what is called the Stanislavsky method of acting. It is pretty simple:

So in your script you are using, you are playing with the idea you are in control and you want to relax the person you are with. With each line add an action verb to it and with what you say, this will give each line a purpose, which the audience will feel. Voice acting is a bit harder with this as we cannot see you while you do this, but don't give up! I want to help any /d/ voice anon, so feel free to ask me for help.

If the /d/ archive wasn't down I'd post some of the Mega links to a lot of voice works that could give you some examples on speech and stuff.

The important things are to speak with your diaphragm, enunciate the words, and to project your voice (not yell) while delivering your lines so they can be more clear and not sound like you are running out of breath. You can take deep breaths, but don't use all of your air at once. I know this is sorta advanced, after 8 years (4 in highschool and 4 in college) of theatre work I'm only now learning how to get this to work for me.

Your use of delivering certain lines was on point, but due to the breathy-ness, they sorta drew me out. Still you're on the right track.

I really liked that even if you got a line wrong, you still made it work, and better even, that actually made it feel kinda spontaneous. I'm sure if you felt more comfortable with changing a line slightly it would sound better than a forced one.

I did what I could to fix the noise and mic buzz. I don't think there is much more I can do. Performance-wise, that was amazing. On the technical side, the audio sounds consistent with a built in laptop mic. They are very small and don't handle noise well. The biggest issue (which can't be recovered is the volume and distance you speak into the mic from. Too loud or close will cause the mic to produce a very shit sound.

overcoming insecurity is an important life lesson, it's one of the reasons people should take a speech class or even an acting class. I think once you record something, you will find that you really enjoy it. As for that possible person that might hear you, I honestly do not think they will recognize you on your voice alone, they may think they do but there really isn't a way to confirm it with out asking and no one especially you is going to help with that anyway, so they can believe what they want to believe.

Hello to those wishing to do some voices for us. I thought I'd make a guide for those wanting some basic tips on acting and preforming that will really help with your recordings. I plan on going through many aspects used in doing audio recordings and for now I only have a small vocal guide which I hope can start you off on the right path.

You know, I really wanted to contribute to these threads somehow for a while now, but I'm not sure where to start - not in the sense of preparation and the like, mind. I meant purely in the 'what to record' sense. A lot of the requests are either somewhat vague, with a script too long to handle in a single recording on my first time, or written with a female in mind.

And getting all personal as a sample just doesn't sit well with me.
