I don't always like super-OP giantesses, but I prefer speed when I think about it. Slow movement makes the larger party seem less like a human, more like a movie monster. Quick movement reminds us that yes, this enormous mountain is capable of doing normal things at a normal pace, and doing so can absolutely wreck our shit if it's not careful about it.

I remember reading a chapter in an (otherwise okay) writing dot com story where a tiny boy was able to dodge tons of foot stomps in a girl's changing room simply by running around. It was infuriating.

On the other hand, thinking you've escaped a giantess only to find her ahead of you, or her chasing in a casual stroll, really appeals to me. Not sure if it's realistic, but it feels like that; I mean, I can outrun an ant. In what little writefagging I've done, I find myself way-too-frequently noting how shocked a tiny is that a huge person can still be quick-moving and graceful.

Then again, maybe I just like quicker-paced stories, or sudden movements the tiny is unable to react to.

It's been a long time. I figured I'd give you guys a progress update on the Shrink High ReBirth mod.

I've been on a hiatus for a long time, from /d/, from the project, etc. I've sort of been picking it back up recently, although I'm mainly just making music at the moment. A lot still needs to be done and the mod is probably not even 30% complete yet, but I have made some progress and managed to sort out a lot of issues.

The majority of work I've done in this project so far has been the big vore scene and the soundtrack. I've composed about 10 original tracks for the game so far, but Shrink 'High has a TON of music to replace so I've got a lot of work to do.

I've touched up on a few things here and there besides the vore and the ost, but I've barely put a dent in what I want to do to the rest of the game yet, so it's going to take a long, long fucking time to get it done, but I plan to do it, even if it takes me a year.

The main reason I wanted to start this project were bugfixes, there are so many mapping errors, battle glitches, and game-breaking bugs in the vanilla game that seriously need attention, even one of the most prominent features in the game, the minimap, doesn't work correctly; it's supposed to turn off when you enter certain events or areas, but it doesn't work because a different common event toggles the minimap.

Another reason is that some of the dungeons in the game are just plain crap. A.S. put a lot of thought into some areas and just used the shitty map generator for other areas which is kind of lazy and makes for terrible levels that are often mazes, especially the caves, and ESPECIALLY the living quarters.

The Haruhi characters' sprites drove me nuts in the original game. Why in the world A. S. couldn't just go into Photoshop and color their hair and clothes the right color is beyond me, but that was one of the first fixes I did.

I really hate the fact that a game I love so much uses stock rpg maker vx music for almost the entire game and has no distinct music cues, I wanted to correct that, though I did make a lot of throwbacks in the music to the tracks they were originally based on, I want to give Shrink 'High a distinctive score that is recognizable; it's mostly original but partly based on some of Diary of Narue's music (and partly based on VX music).

Erika's digestive system was silly in the original game too, especially her stomach, where it's like a circular pit with a rim around it. I wanted to make a body dungeon that actually is shaped like the inside of a digestive system, and I worked on it for months, and learned a lot of shit about After Effects in that time and managed to make it animated and also added random events where you can hear her moving from the inside. I still haven't finished her intestines but I'm making progress.

Will you also be adjusting game balance? Some of the fights honestly felt like you had to cheese them to win (poison status honestly feels like the only way to kill giant girls), or abuse the Arcade/pick up missable hidden equipment to stand a chance. There's also that annoying Renzoku move that nearly every enemy seems to have which is basically a free double hit.

This Shrink 'High mod was the first project I've ever put this much effort into and I think it's a great starting point for me. Yeah I plan to balance the game. A lot of bosses and enemies have moves that don't work right or are completely unfair and balanced against you. Shrink 'High is notoriously difficult. I want to get rid of the bullshit but still preserve the difficulty, because difficulty is part of the experience, if the game isn't still hard as hell by the time I'm done with it I will go back and make it more difficult, but it will be fair. For the most part.

I will add an easy difficulty where you are super overpowered, for people who just want to blast through the game and fap to the sexy, sexy death scenes, however, you won't get to play the final chapter of the game (the last two hours or so) if you are playing on easy.

Timetable? Not really. My development process is pretty sporadic. I end up randomly working on stuff all night long and into the morning whenever a new idea or song comes to mind. It works though.

Honestly, I'd just want more interactions and random characters in the game. I'd like to see some teachers and other characters in this version and maybe some exploration bits, like exploring a panty drawer or something. Most of all I'd want more of an expansion on the super shrink scenes near the end of the game. Have players explore the carpet then discover where they're really at. Same with Narue's face. Maybe add another outcome? How about adding a scene like this much earlier in the game? My main issue with your project is it feels more like a grab for attention/epeen-jacking then anything else. That is, you can't make something of your own, by your own admission, so you just want to ftz around with Shrink High and then point at it and go "Look! Look at what I did! Remember the name of Squid or whoever when you think of Shrink High!" It's like back when people like Anybody would just go around posting massive link copypastes to a bunch of easily findable stuff that other people had scanned, translated, pirated, etc., but as long as he was the one resharing the links he'd earn some kind of "credit" for it. (Sadly, since this is how he became "well" known, it kind of worked.)

If your point was just to produce a version that fixed a bunch of the errors/bugs/unbalances that existed in both the original and translated versions, I'd totally give you props for the effort and for a good idea save for one addendum I'll mention in a second.

But it sounds like you're just needlessly trying to jigger in anything you can. The dungeons don't need to be bigger, better, louder, faster since as so many people have rightfully complained over the years, people don't REALLY want to be playing an RPG (which is why the stupid need to grind has been lamented so many times over the years as well). Same thing for the music. It's not like 99.99% of people were familiar with the standard RPG Maker music, so it was "fresh" (used loosely) to most players anyway.

I'll be willing to bet anything that your next step is going to be something like rewriting whatever you want this there and the other thing, plus adding a bunch of your own stuff here and there if you still have the urge to by the time you've finished your other changes. And at that point you've gone beyond "I just wanna muck around and make an "improved" version of Shrink High" to "stealing A.S.'s game and doing whatever I want with it to gain epeen".

The other, perhaps more salient point is that, at this point in time 6 to 8 years after Shrink High came out, nobody gives a shit anymore. It's like Hand Held. It will always be a classic, and we'll always give it lipservice, but very few people are going to play it again. The auto-generated dungeons are REALLY bad and there is little if any indication where to go while you're dealing with a ridiculous encounter rate. Yes. That's why most games that have active mod communities online are basically full of people going "Rate my board/mod Bro!"

Also, there's a difference between a massive publicly released game that has its modification encouraged and aided by the publishers like, say, Gary's Mod for Half-Life stuff, and just ripping off a tiny one-man project years after it was relevant and putting "your own version" of the exact same game out there.

I think the easy mode shouldn't lock anything out, otherwise there's no point in playing on Easy. This isn't Touhou, where the game takes a half hour, this is a long, grindy RPG, so replayability is limited to an extent.

I tried to pick a generic name like Squid so exactly that kind of thing wouldn't happen, and I've only been posting with the name when it's relevant to the mod, but I could take my username completely out of the mod if you want, or just stop using the name altogether. I don't want to take credit for Shrink 'High.

I also planned on rewriting as little as possible, the dialogue DSojourn translated and created is already great as it is. I also was not trying to make the dungeons bigger, I think a lot of them need to be shortened; the ones made with the random dungeon generator are almost always mazes, especially the "bug fortresses" like the anthill and hornet's nest.

While thats very true that almost every popular giantess artist will occasionally churn out a token giant male for the relatively modest gt fandom base, They are still gonna be "gts" artists at the end of the day.
