It would've been pretty stupid since the movie focused heavily on acceptance of loss, just for him to not be dead wouldn't have felt right. I don't know why there was support for Tadashi to not be dead for a sequel.

If the cops killed someone's kid and years later after having a mental breakdown, a father went and shot up a police department, you can call him despicable but still feel bad that the police fucked over his life in the first place. Hell, some people might even side with that guy over the innocent cops who had nothing to do with him kid dying.

But because we're seeing the movie from Hiro's POV, we side with Hiro because we know someone close to him died. If the movie was from the villain's POV, he would just be an anti-hero.

Side note, would have been hella dark, but I would have loved it if instead of making Baymax go berserk, Hiro put on the mask and tried attacking him with the microbots, complete with them swarming around Hiro in a way that made it look like he was wearing a coat too to drive home the imagery.

Of course, the symbolism there isn't quite the same as Hiro trying to turn Baymax, his brother's legacy, into just another to for hiro's own gratification.
