What are your thoughts on Geoffrey's design, cartoon, and 2018 bankruptcy?

I have not heard anything in years but I will take a wild guess.

Toy division lacks high quality diversity and deals they used to have, pandering to the family friendly crowd turns off the new thirty somethings with kids, sales now primarily from vidya and lego while the building blocks and train sets get covered in dust as kids play on ipads instead.

Toys R Us failed to evolve and get into the growing miniatures market (X-wing and Warhammer are fucking killing it atm) while also not appealing to collectors or offering anything over just picking up your shit at target or wal-mart

Tl;dr they are wasting space with giant stores full of products people don't want or can get elsewhere, just like FAO Schwartz did

>I don't want to grow up. I'm a Toys R Us kid.
I remember listening to that and wishing I could stay a kid forever, and also wishing that summer wouldn't end. Now I'm old and cynical and I hate the summer and Blockbuster is dead and TRU is on life support. We're all time's bitch.

>>95218971
Same reason as the rest of the brick and mortar retailers: Internet marketplace. Stores that specialize and have a whole bunch of store locations don't have the agility to transition into the online age. People will cry doom and resist and cling to nostalgia but the future always wins in the end.

it was inevitable especially when you sell $20 of something that can be bought online fore $17 and at walmart or target at $15

Actually we are becoming to overpopulated.

Each year there are approximately 4 million births in the U.S. and 2.4 million deaths. The growth due to natural increase (total births minus deaths) is therefore 1.6 million per year. Yet according to the Census Bureau's decennial census, U.S. population is growing by approximately 3.3 million per year.

Whats your favorite toy youve ever got from toys r us? I still have a bunch of those exclusive gi joes they had out for a few years
>>
15 years ago I used to excitedly go to TRU looking for the new toys I wanted. Now anything that's any good immediately is bought by employees and put on Craigslist and anything else is cheaper elsewhere. I still go to window shop now and again but I've probably only spent $100 there in the past 10 years and many thousands prior to that.

Is anybody old enough that they remember going to buy a NES game at Toys R Us?

They had 3 or 4 aisles of nothing but games. You would look in the case and see which you wanted. Then you would get the paper for that game, take it to the front and they would go unlock the case and get the game for you.

I don't recall my parents ever buying any video games at Toys R Us, but I'll always remember the day I went to the videogame section and they had three demo stations set up, with Donkey Kong Country and Sonic & Knuckles facing each other (both of which I spent a few minutes playing) and Earthworm Jim somewhere off to the side. For me that was the defining moment of 1994.

>>95233529
Realistically if we had a purge, the poor are going to kill the middle class and the rich are going to give the poor the weapons to use months in advance because arms sales prior to a purge would be an extremely lucrative market. The rich will be hidden away and protected watching a livestream of the chaos and enjoy ruling again once it's over. There won't be any right wing death squads or any of that nonsense.

Blockbuster was a big part of my childhood but when Netflix started becoming a thing, it was just way way too convenient. Me and my family were always messing up returning the movies on time. And that 2-Day express thing, you can just forget it. Netflix really was whatever, whenever and I didn't need my parents to drive me to BB, I could just send it back myself

I do, however, miss being able to rent entire video game systems. That was pretty cool. Would never fly today, but cool.

Horseshit. Only three regions are suffering from serious overpopulation - South America, Asia, and Africa, and of those three only Africa is continuing to experience out-of-control exponential growth. Every other region in the world is slightly above or below the replacement fertility rate.

"Overpopulation in the West" is a fucking myth. The people discouraging Westerners from having more than one kid are the same fucking scumbags who simultaneously tell us how we won't survive without mass replacement migration.
>>
>>95241031
I remember the renting games from blockbuster back when a lot of those games still didn't have save features. I remember one, it was a civilization game, maybe Civ, maybe one of the ripoffs, but anyways I'd check it out every once in a while and basically stay up all weekend with my brother trying to finish the game before it had to go back.

Good times.

I never got the youtube craze
My borther in law bought all the latest console and games for my nephew and yet he doesnt touch them and instead watches some guy on youtube playing them

Because their parents hate toys. They can't just give the kid something fun or silly to play with. Everything needs to be educational in some way.

Children are hooked to their tablets nowadays. I see parents with their kids always holding them with those big thick cushion cases, probably just addicted to free apps.
