That's because the whole show had zero to 2 on character development scale. No one did anything cool besides a couple of episodes.

If they ever made a BW reboot, I feel like Dinobot would benefit from a GRADUAL betrayal of the Predacons, rather than starting off episode one with him and Megatron having a spat, getting booted off the team and joining the Maximals like he was some kind of jilted lover.

Like, have him be Megatron's second in command, and have him be all honorable and shit, but siding with Megatron because he genuinely believes the shit Megatron has been saying. And over the course of a season, have him slowly realize what Megatron's real character is and then have him defect.

I wasn't the "truk not monky" crowd I just thought he was not really the best character and kind of the weakest leader in a Transformers series

Honestly I just finished watching BW for the first time, with 0 nostalgia backing it up since I'd never watched it when I was younger.

I expected much more; everyone hypes the shit out of the writing and characters, but it's really not that great. Beast Machines has been considerably better, and it actually maintains a serious tone for an entire episode instead of having fart jokes in he middle of a serious plot development scene like BW had.

I have absolutely no idea why so many people hype BW as the best Transformers series, and shit on BM, when the latter is actually much better written than the former.

Also a lot of people claim this is the best Transformers series ever made, but it has absolutely nothing on Animated and Prime.

Having a consistent tone doesn't make something SUPER SERIOUS. Prime isn't overly edgy or anything, it just doesn't try to hamfist humor into something that isn't supposed to be funny. There are still lots of light-hearted moments in Prime and Animated, but they know when to stop with the jokes and get on with the plot, something that bothered the fuck out of me with BW.

That doesn't make it a bad show, that just means you dislike the decisions they made regarding the plot. The writing itself is much more consistent than in BW, even if the characterization of the main cast diverge a lot from their original personalities from BW.

I'm not the only one, and I'm definitely not defending it. All I'm saying is Beast Wars is overrated as fuck, and Beast Machines isn't that bad, and does some things better than BW. I don't know, I just found the writting much more enjoyable. Beast Wars started out great, but the silliness got pretty ubearable as it went on, like every action sequence having some sort of slapstick joke with cheesy boing-oin-oing sound fx that just takes you out of the moment completely. BM knows how to maintain a tonal consistency during an episode and that makes it a more enjoyable show overall to me.
