Why are there so few animated series based on popular children books? Was the animated version of the Hobbit(it's not a kids book but yeah whatever) so bad it scared companies from ever trying it?

because we should encourage children to actually read?

yeah, this pretty much.
movies adapted from children books turn out to be shit anyway.

>Hobbit
I used to work in a book store, and people would get so confused that Hobbit was in the kids section. Eventually, we had to stock them in both the Kids section and the Fantasy section.

The lack of an Amelia show always surprises me. It has a fair amount of source material to work with that is fairly well known, could easily work as educational content for somebody like PBS, and wouldn't be too hard to write episodes for beyond the existing material.

I can't help but imagine that series where they showed Amelia's school years might have been an attempt to re-invent the character to pitch a series. I just can't get behind it, because it's so much funnier to have an adult character making silly mistakes.
