I'M SO FUCKING MAD THAT THIS GOT CANCELLED
AT LEAST GIVE THEM TIME TO ROUND OFF ALL OF THE CHARACTER ARCS AND END AT 300
FUCK
>>95170224
>Pending licensor approval
So how'd that go for ya, Archie?
>>95170224
They were going to do SegaSonic? Damn.
Any news about the new comic?
>>95170224
wow, you raged for a shitty comic?
Well lad, fuck you
>>95171310
Not until next month, I believe.
>>95171310
>>95172783
They're going to announce more info at New York Comic Con.
>Ian had three fucking years
>Focused on MUH WORLDBUILDING instead of good stories.
>Gets cancelled when he finally tries to just tell good stories.
He has nobody to blame but himself.
>>95171331
The Sonic fan base on /co/ is just as autistic as one would imagine. 90% of it is just wishing death on Ken Penders for killing their furfag husbands.
>>95174463
That explains why /co/ doesn't do Sonic Females threads (and just doing single ones like Sticks or Amy doesn't count).
>>95172783
>>95173462
Will that be at the regular IDW panel or the IDW kids panel?
>>95174463
It really sucks that most of them are lemmings. Ken's a horrible writer, but most of them don't form that opinion for themselves and don't even check which stories he wrote. There's no meaningful discussion because the people who read the fucking comics and formed their own opinions on it are so few and far between.
Might and Ray always gave off gay lover vibes.
>>95174590
Since when do they have two?
>>95174655
When I went in 2015, they had a kids panel, that was all about their kids stuff.
Also, shut the fuck up, Boco.
>>95174746
Huh, neat. Its a shame they don't have wider distribution, it'd really help them.
Yes sir...
>>95174463
Or they're pissed because he pretty much killed the comics and now he's throwing vague threats are IDW, retard
>>95175126
That still doesn't excuse the fact they're wishing death on a human being over a cartoon blue hedgehog.
>>95174416
to be fair 3 of those months were wasted on the 2nd crossover that was editorially mandated,
I bet that if he wasn't made to write for trades he would've done things quicker
>>95175169
/co/ does that shit all the time, but if you wanna single out Sonicfags to make yourself feel better, go for it
>>95175203
After Champions he clearly wasn't.
Either way, he wasted a lot of time building muh lore instead of making good stories.
>>95171331
But aren't the majority of comics rather shitty anyway?
So we'll say you're IDW. You just got the hot new Sonic license. What books do you greenlight?
>Sonic Mega Drive: Classic style Sonic adventures aimed at younger fans. Classic style Sonic.
>Sonic Adventures: Modern Sonic comic.
>Sonic Mania: The Megafan comic. Stories from the Sonic multiverse, SatAM, Underground, OVA, Boom, etc.
>Sonic Super Special. Crossover comic. First arc is Sonic and the TMNT.
>>95178662
That's a ton of comics and sure to self-cannibalize. I'd do Sonic Mega Drive quarterly as a mini, Sonic the Hedgehog as a serial that's just an adventure comic centered on Sonic, and maybe Sonic Adventure as a side comic to do more stories.
>>95174416
This. Ian is extremely overrated. In fact, I'd compare him as a writer to Sonic Generations as a game. It was essentially, "This game isn't laughably broken so it's literally a 10/10 GOTYAY" when it was really a 7/10 at best. Basically, any writer is going to look god-like after Penders. And you know what? It was pretty good for a while. I'll give him credit where its due, but as the other anon said he really got bogged down by trying to world build and eventually had amassed a pile of one-note OC Literally Whos to rival that of Penders' enchiladas in the process. That and he was shamelessly waifu-baiting with some of the female characters. Then there was references, which were cute at first but then quickly got out of hand and basically every other page has an obnoxious "HAHA US SONICFANS" reference shoved in your face. Obviously, this is a non-issue for non-Sonicfags. But who the fuck else is gonna read this shit, honestly?
Overall, Ian was a step up from Penders, but if you hold the comic up to even a tiny amount of scrutiny you begin to see just how mediocre he was as a writer for an ongoing series. I hope IDW does better and I also sincerely hope that it drops all of the Archie characters to start fresh.
>Sonic... I need you to get rid of my porn collection... Magazines, videos, some security footage I stole from Julian... There are snuff films in there, Sonic.
>If Princess Sally sees all the pictures I took of her feet while she was sleeping... It's all over, man. Everything's in the box in the basement labelled "Baby Pictures"... Before you ask, yes, there are baby pictures in there, they're just not of you... Actually they're part of the Sonic Dreams Collection, but that doesn't matter, you gotta do this for me Sonic. You gotta destroy my stash. And I mean DESTROY that shit, kid. Seriously, the upskirt pictures of Honey the Cat I took is enough to get a man put away. Hentai is the Japanese word for "pervert, son", and that's what I am... That's what your Uncle Chuck is... All the fat globs of hedgehog semen I've wasted masturbating to bestiality and vore over the years...
>And I'm a strong ejaculator, Sonic. I'm as sterile as Rotor's lab, but I cum like a geyser every time. I think part of the thrill was seeing if I could get any in my mouth... The first time I did it was a complete accident, but the taste, Sonic... The taste was unlike anything I had ever experienced before... I started to crave it.... It was like a drug to me... And this is coming from a guy that did a lot of blow in the 90s... Usually off the ass-cheeks of some coked-out echidna who me and the boys would kill for sport later... I actually have some footage of that in my porn collection, which again, you REALLY need to get rid of.... I cannot overstate the ipmortance of wiping that shit from the face of the earth.... Okay what else. You can have a the slice of cake from Tails's Birthday I've been saving... I mean I took a bite of it but it's not like I have herpes or anything... Wait, do genitals count... Nevermind... I'm dying now... In summation, great speed, great responsibility, burn my porn, eat Sally out, Bleh...
What did Flynn mean by this?
>>95170224
So Archie is done for, correct? I was under the impression that it was Sonic keeping Archie afloat.
>>95179201
References to old Sonic lore... in a Sonic comic?!'
Holy shit what a hack!!
Nah mate, you're scraping the bottom of the barrel to find excuses for calling Flynn's run bad when in reality the only reason you're mad is he just wrote thing >not MUH sonic
>>95179538
I liked Ian Flynn and his references would get out of hand. Comedy was his weakest aspect and he did lean too heavily on callbacks or lampshades for it, despite his strengths elsewhere.
>>95178662
>Sonic Mania: The Megafan comic. Stories from the Sonic multiverse, SatAM, Underground, OVA, Boom, etc.
This would be a dream come true, desu
>>95179231
No wonder the reboot removed any trace of familial connection between Chuck and Sonic
>>95174416
>Focused on MUH WORLDBUILDING instead of good stories.
I love how he had the perfect opportunity after the Pendering to pare things down, narrow the focus and tell nice simple stories, but said FUCK IT and made a million new characters that no one gave a shit about.
His Sonic Boom run and Mega Drive show he's capable of telling those kind of stories, he just refuses to.
>>95179912
Those kind of stories are crap.
Lazy, no substance, nothing to keep people interested, no ability to tell stories of scope.
They are alright as a once in a while thing, but they're kind of shit for an ongoing comic. I can just point to Looney Tunes comic or any other similar kids fare that does exactly what you're proposing.
The Sonic comics only got to their position by being a deep world with ongoing plot arcs, not some shitty shonie comedy. You fucker.
>>95179912
He listened too much to the fans and respected the past of the comic too much. He thought that the big world with everything set down, and all the different Freedom Fighter teams, and letting characters languish were what people wanted, because people straight up told him so and it was what the comic always was. When he was made to do things with more concern for SegaSonic than ArchieSonic, or he just told small little stories about the main cast it was great, but the editorial mandates and his own influences and biases just totally blocked any talent from shining through. So much adherence to formula and "lore" without any reason to care about either.
Can we make some use of this awful thread and help a nigga out.
I'm trying to find (download or read online) those Sonic Mega Drive comics. I remember reading them here storytimed and they were dope
>>95180096
>When he was made to do things with more concern for SegaSonic than ArchieSonic, or he just told small little stories about the main cast it was great,
No it wasn't you autistic gamefag. that's just your fucking character preference flowing through.
>>95180008
>Those kind of stories are crap.
>Lazy, no substance, nothing to keep people interested, no ability to tell stories of scope.
>They are alright as a once in a while thing, but they're kind of shit for an ongoing comic.
Read more comics.
>>95180208
By main cast I'm including the DiC characters. Most of the tertiary cast introduced after the reboot had approximately zero use. Knuckles' archeologist friend and gizoid were the best additions that weren't antagonistic, and even they were just pleasant instead of all that interesting.
>>95179538
No, anon has a point.
His run had to start out with a lot of housekeeping to build goodwill with the fanbase and bring the comic into an understandable and simple status quo and he immediately segued into a couple fun little stories from there, but soon after you ended up in a situation where for every 1 entertaining issue you had two or three that were references, foreshadowing, and exposition handled way more clunkily than it needed to be. There are a fucking load of issues in his run that aren't fun to read on their own or even as part of an arc. It's very much one of the common pitfalls of American comics. He spent so much time building and building and a lot of it never really got a payoff, so you're left with tons of pages spent on implying things will happen when they never do.
>>95180248
>comparing a corporate mandated comic to a creator owned comic
Really fires my synapses.
>>95180096
He also seems to have a really hard time with choreography, which is imperative in an action title. You could really tell when they started getting non-fans on Sonic and Mega Man that most of the good parts of the action were the artist's input, not his.
But yeah, the biggest problem was his insistence on placing the setting and terms above the character dynamics and surprises. Really hurt Mega Man even more than Sonic.
>>95180119
I'm pretty sure readcomiconline has both of them.
>>95181292
While it's healthy to throw in an arc or two every once in a while, there's nothing wrong with focusing on your issues being good in and of themselves. Licensed or not, the combination of a consistent flow of conflict and resolution along with lingering plot hooks makes for the best form of audience retention, especially when you're asking for 3 or 4 dollars a pop.Plus, nearly every good thing Ian ever wrote was either a self-contained four parter or a oneshot/two parter. The comic was always at its worst when trying to do longer sagas.
