Let's see if that BleedingCool review was right!

It's going to be hard, but try to keep the reaction images until the end.
They might be indistinguishable due to the art shifts.

It was a review by someone called "The Drill" (Rich later did a review defending the book).

https://www.bleedingcool.com/2017/08/24/generations-iron-man-ironheart-1-review/

>Generations: The Iron with Tony Stark and Riri Williams is one of the worst superhero comics I’ve ever read. It takes some of the most egregious Bendis writing habits and runs wild with them. 30 painful pages filled with mismatched art from three pencilers, four inkers, and three colorists. It’s so clear that this was a last-minute production with little to no editorial oversight — no one at the wheel.

>The other Generations issues have been uneven, but the basic idea of “hero meets past version of same hero” creates a natural bond between them and a sense of nostalgia. But not this time. Even though the cover and pile of variants show classic Iron Man with Riri — that never happens. Instead, Riri is flung into an alternate future where Tony Stark is a 126-year-old Sorcerer Supreme and he’s surrounded by the children of famous Marvel heroes. Tony brags about how great the future is and Riri gets inspired to do stuff when she goes back.

>That’s it. That’s the whole thing. 30 pages. Talky and preachy without going anywhere. Tony plays show and tell presenting the future and how innovative it is while Riri passively follows him around and does nothing. The children of Marvel characters are trotted out and they compliment Riri for things she hasn’t done yet, puffing up her ego and giving her knowledge of the future she shouldn’t have.
>>
>>95148103
>We never see any regular people in Tony’s future overlord world. They don’t matter at all. It’s all superhero kids and alien buildings without any action or emotional stakes. The tiny whiff of a conflict shows up when Morgan LeFay appears but she’s dispatched on the next page by Tony with as much difficulty as making a piece of toast. It’s awful and utterly bewildering.

>Making the thing worse are mindbusting panel layouts. Each penciler has some good work here and there, but none get to shine as they try to match Marco Rudy’s trippy look. It’s clear he ran out of time and a brigade of other artists were called in to bale water and finish the book. Maybe the script was late, maybe the art dragged out but the result is painful. Riri does nothing other than arrive in the future because of the cosmic cube. Everyone talks at her and she stands or floats around. Crazy page layouts do not make it exciting, and at times make it hard to read or recognize where we are and what is happening.

>Unfortunately, Generations: The Iron is a waste of time, talent, and money. Spend yours elsewhere.

https://www.bleedingcool.com/2017/08/28/another-look-generations-iron-man-ironheart-spoilers/

>Last week, new Bleeding Cool reviewer The Drill reviewed the upcoming Generations: The Irons featuring Iron Man and Ironheart. We ran the review, but I wanted to seek out the issue in question so I could see for myself. And I did, but came to a different opinion.

>There are two big things about the issue in question, which were reflected by The Drill, but I had a different reaction to both. The first that it did things differently to the other Generations book by having a modern-day character go to the far future to meet their counterpart rather than the past. And that very little “happened” and what conflict occurred was over in a page.

>Firstly, one of the complaints I have come across is that the formula is turning off readers. Just as with the Convergence two partners from DC Comics a few years ago, once you’ve read one, you’ve read them all. You knew the structure and where it was all going, In Generations, that has been the cosmic cube sending modern-day characters to the past to meet the original legacy holder of that name, get involved some way in their story, then disappear, having learned something — something that may then affect them going forward.

>And having read the same thing a number of times, having Odin shag the Phoenix was a welcome relief. Just something else.
>>
>>95149516
>Well, Generations: The Irons does do something else. It takes Riri Williams to the future to meet the ancient Tony Stark, now Sorcerer Supreme and discovering his world, his future, and also her own legacy.

>That is something different for the character — for the story and ideal for the character and her desire, like Tony Stark, to be a futurist who now gets to see the future. Sending her to the past just wouldn’t fit.

>As to the critique about a lack of conflict — there are conflicts of expectations, world views, and perspectives. But this is a place where the future won. It’s, thankfully, not some fascist state. It’s not perfect, but problems are handled. And new solutions to old problems, from hunger to super villains popping up, have been found. Tony Stark, rather than the man who opposed Ulysses, has embraced that way of thinking again — dealing with problems without attacking them, but anticipating them, so that they will already be solved. And the heroes help him in that endeavour.

>The Marvel Universe won. And somehow, Riri knows she helped; and it looks like she has learned something to propel her forward. It’s not a bad thing that it didn’t follow the standard plot of hitting things a lot while shouting snarky burns; it’s a welcome relief. And it gives the Marvel characters something to fight for rather than some Days of Future Past.
>>
>>95149536
>I do share The Drill’s critique that all the events didn’t show what happened to the ordinary people. Almost everything is seen with the perspective of the “up above”, though that does preserve a mystery for the future, with only occasional Easter eggs dotting around to suggest what might have been. And yes, the changing artists do distract, but the colourists must take credit for, between them, doing their best to keep a consistent tone for the future as seen. And the cover is a complete 180 degrees from what the comic book actually is.

>But while it may not be what you are expecting, in this case, with Riri Williams, that may not be a bat thing at all.

>Generations: The Irons with Iron Man and Ironheart is published by Marvel Comics on September 6th, by Brian Michael Bendis, Marco Rudy, Szymon Kudranski, Nico Leon, Will Sliney, Scott Kudlish, Nico Leon, Dean White and Paul Mounts.

Doomquest is his favorite Marvel comic. It's also potentially the only Iron Man comic he's ever read.
>>
>>95150745
yes, phrases. Simple phrases. You know, like phases that are simple
>>
>>95150790
Dont do it anon, kill Bendis instead.
>>
>>95147028
I like the art too
>>
>>95150790
>Some of guys are alright. Don't go to Marvel Entertainment tomorrow
I would rather see you do the job Disney need to do when they bought everything.
>>
>>95150790
>Bendis doing to Reed/Sue what he did to Scott/Emma
Just imagine.
>>
>>95150790
Anon, you don't have to kill yourself. Just kill Bendis instead!
>>
>>95150792
True. Namor has a canonically small dick, and considering Victor is both a Balkan (region with small dicks on average) and his only pity fuck is Morgan le Fay, I'd say he has a small dick as well. Tony, well, we got an answer...
>>
>>95147028
Bendis has always gotten the best artists.
>>
>>95150904
Curiously enough, two of those instances are written by Bendis. Wonder if the man is projecting?

>>95150921
Such a waste.
>>
But I liked the Jean Grey one.
>>
>>95151038
You have shit taste and you should kill yourself for it.
>>
>>95151025
I think it more likely that Bendis is just juvenile. He likes to appear progressive, but still uses old stereotypes and cleans his twitter history when people call out his old stuff (like his views on Wonder Woman).
>>
>>95151025
Dunno. Usually when writers self-insert, they make their characters ultra cool, like Bendis is doing with his daughter's self-insert. It seems to me Bendis simply dislikes Doom, same as Waid, and so they portray him as a totally loony guy whose pity-fuck is a witch from the times of King Arthur. Namor has canonically a small dick per Parker's Thunderbolts.
>>
>>95147009
This gorgeous art is being utterly wasted.
>>
>>95151038
that was terrible, it was just a bunch of, "oh no, muh pheonix is bad" and did nothing with it. I thought the wolverine one was ok, but it was the only ok one yet.
>>
>>95151089
People should call him more on his bullshit. Guy might end up deleting his twitter like Brevoort.
>>
This did suck but it wasn't good. It was kinda boring and I really don't really think Riri learned anything about herself. This really was pointless with decent art.
>>
>>95149859
>That is the dumbest thing possible, like a wannabe surgeon who can't see blood, or a soldier who is against guns.
Give them to Humphries and it will be a solid, good 32-issues run.
At DC.
>>
>>95147530
That's what we have photoshop and writing skills for
>>
>>95147028
>>95147056
Art changes are unavoidable sometimes but the entire style changes here.

I thought this book was meant to be a big deal? Surely they could have postponed it a little if it meant keeping the art consistent?
>>
This was shit... and I'm really tired of the shitty Next Avengers, damn! Black Widow can't even get pregnant, stupid Bendis!
>>
>>95149725
Because Thrud is the least sexy name I can humanly imagine.
>>

>What's a paladin?
>>
>>95149536
>It’s, thankfully, not some fascist state

>>
>>95146907
The problem with this is that I went in expecting interesting interactions between Riri and Stark and instead got a time-travel story as an excuse for character shilling.

Teen tech heroes can be incredibly fun and compelling, but there's little conflict in this book, just Iron Man appearing from the future to tell Bendis's OC that she'll be a great character in time. The narrative is all backwards.
>>
Does anyone even like the Next Avenger movie for Bendis to shove them in comics.
>>
>>95151548
What's wrong with having a non-sexy-sounding name for your alien viking space goddess?
Sif doesn't sound like a particularly feminine name, either.
>>
>>95151900
I thought it was rather decent. It wasn't good but it is better than some of the DC animated movies as of late
>>
>>95151453
>>95147566
I think what probably happened is that they announced it before they had any idea what to do. Remember there was talk that Generations/Legacy is really just a placeholder till they get to the "real" reboot? It also explains why they were waffling on what was going on about it and why Secret Empire had barely an explanation about what it was.
>>
>>95147421
Bendis has forever tainted the word "futurist." Fanfic Mary Sue has a guaranteed happy future because we wuz queens n sheit.
>>
>>95147056
She Hulk could legitimately solve this. She has connections.
>>
>>95147073
All those motherfucking cyborg parts and extremis you've made over the decades and you can't make some artificial eyes?
You created literal immortality/regeneration powers for yourself. Why would you ever need glasses or grow old?
>>
>>95147190
So let's see. Tony Stark basically became dictator of the planet via controlling all of the energy and then eliminated the internet with something he could control instead because he hated net neutrality and Riri is dumb enough to let her AI learn from the internet as if it wont learnt to like kittens and quote hitler while opening itself up to hacking when she does that?
>>
>>95152714
I'd attribute it less to riri being a dumbass and more to bendis not knowing what he's talking about.
>>
>>95152928
I know, but I think Riri's occasional lack of common sense and pop culture knowledge would make it so that she doesn't know what happens when you let the internet have any input into an AI's behavior patterns.
>>
So the bottom line of this issue is we're going to be stuck with Riri for a very long time.

Wonderful.
>>
>>95147377
without word balloons it looks like their mouths are superglued shut
>>
Will Nova get one?
>>
>>95147233
just a huge fucking reminder since Bendis and the editors dont give a shit, RIRI HAS STATED THAT SHE HAS BEEN FOLLOWING ALL MAJOR EVENTS SINCE SHE WAS A KID, SO HER NOT KNOWING WHO THANOS IS, IS IN DIRECT CONTRADICTION TO THAT, BENDIS!
>>
>>95147253
>no crime in canada
this meme has got to stop
>>
>>95146907
My Mary-Sue sense tingling.

Which issue was this?
>>
>>95147878
Not to disagree, buy isn't Tony like that as well?
>>
>>95153801
the "15 year old prodigy genius" thing is the difference, and the fact we're expected to take her seriously, which I just can't.
>>
>>95153784
it was in either 1 or 2. it was very early when she was giving her credentials for being the new Ironman. or it could have been in invincible iron man since these damn books keep resetting. She was so obsessed with being Iron man that she kept an eye on all major events before she was discovered
>>
>>95146949
WHO TALKS LIKE THAT?!
>>
>>95153893
It's not for you

It's for black girls who, Bendis believes, need inspiration. So he's telling them that the future is theirs for the taking, that everyone will love them, that they'll be successful, etc.

You and I might find it tiresome, but maybe there are people who need this. Maybe.
>>
>>95154233
The people who needs this deserve better than Bendis.
>>
>>95147152
>Henry Pym Jr.
Well that's not fucking happening.
>>
>>95147399
>>95147419
Thansoon after this one-shot, they canceled her series. lol
>>95147426
this here.
>>
>>95154233
This is true. As a teacher, I do have students who reads these books and go "cool I can be Iron Man or the smartest person in the world too". Representation do matter
However, they might get the wrong idea about what intelligence means and think they are just smart just because, which some kids go on that path and think they are hot shit, which doesn't bode well for the future
>>
>>95154248
Or is it? We still have Pymtron and Nadia to make things nice and horrific. There always has to be one guy with the horrible backstory that angsts over it. Vision shall pass this noble duty to his brother/nephew/grandfather.
>>
>>95147728
>BLACKED
or did he?
>>
>>95154343
Pymtron doesn't have a dick. He has nothing below his clavicles.
>>
>>95147462
Correct me if i'm wrong, but isn't that distinctly not "inspiration" and actually just outright intellectual theft from herself?
>>
>>95154436
And that would stop him, because? Scientists in our, non-Superscience world can already artificially manufacture sperm and Ultron has plenty of Pym's well preserved "corpse" on hand for genetic materials.

if riri marry the son of black panther and storm she would became her own grandmother?
WTF???
>>
>>95154606
she wont ever marry anybody. Thats why she invents these little ironman-robots.
She will be the Iroman-robot lady.
>>
>>95154606
It was a futurama joke. The main character accidentally became his own grandfather when he mistook the grandfather paradox not erasing him from existence when he accidentally got "grandpa" killed as proof it wasn't really his grandparents and proceeded to bang his grandma.

It turned out she was totally still his grandmother.

um.. anon... i am sorry.
I tried to fullfill your wish. I traveled back in time. To kill Bendis slowly, but as it looks like, thats what made him this way. Sorry im responsible for this whole Bendis mess. Sorry.
But i swear i will create another universe were Bendis wont rule and polute comics.
We cool?
Ok?
Have a nice life and see you in the next universe!
>>
>>95154792
Bendis' salt is usually never through with just a single throwaway 'gag' like that.

I guess we can expect an overweight nude blue man in a Police Department anytime soon.
>>
>>95154727
I understand the joke but does not work here.
- She marries black panther jr in the far future, have a child who would be her mother or father who need to travel back in time to riri past and have her.
Also she would be the great granddaughter of Storm and Black Panther!
>>
>>95154957
The fact that it doesn't work is the joke here. Riri is utterly confused because the joke doesn't work and she's racking her brains trying to figure it out in the assumption that some sort of timey wimey bullshit is going on that makes it possible.
>>
>>95154917
He already had someone screaming about how "rebirth" is a silly thing that can't be done

I don't think I've read one comic that's enjoyable where she's speaking and I'm a minority. Is she written to be unlikable? I like Kamala no prob. What age of buyers are they targeting with this?

>>
>>95158332
Did... Did you read the same comic as I did, motherfucker? Don't give me this "It wasn't that bad" bullshit. This whole issue had no other purpose than to shoehorn a Future Avengers cameo, make some fun of the Fantastic 4, and to glorify even more the "perfect and infallible" Riri Williams. This was a whole bunch of self masturbatory pages that told absolutely nothing. Nothing was gained from this.
>>
>Doctor Doom has become the new Iron Man

Admit it, Captain Marvel punching the living shit out of Tony was the best thing to happen to Marvel in a while.

Oh...oh god I just had a thought.
What if his daughter is writing this book, and he's just being her mouthpiece or ghost writer.

He just gave her Iron Man and said "You're in charge of this story now sweety. Let's write a comic together."
Just like Axe Cop, but with OP's story time as a result.
