Wow, what a massive coincidence that two of the biggest media conglomerates on planet Earth are continuing to compete with each other.

Why everybody is allowing those already titanic business to turn into a monopoly? They're buying literally everything and I think WB will end up getting dreamworks just to counter Pixar.

DC isn't as involved with the movies especially before Johns was given a promotion. Even now it's mainly WB doing whatever they want with the IPs.

Marvel is in a whole different situation where they are basically held hostage and find the comics side being jerked all over the place. The most obvious thing was the Avengers 2 fiasco in how the comics catered to that movie and then when that fell apart the comics went their own way to push diversity and everyone ran amok.

It's still Disney and WB but they have DC and Marvel on the sidelines shaking their pompoms.

Before WB's plan was to have big name directors do movies with essentially complete creative control, because it worked both for Burton's two Batman movies and Nolan's Batman movies. And that was the plan for both Superman Returns, which was supposed to be to Superman what Batman '89 was to Batman, evidenced by the fact it started out as a Burton project; and Man of Steel, which was supposed to be to Superman what The Dark Knight was to Batman, as evidenced by the fact that Goyer wrote it and Nolan was involved.

What changed was Iron Man 2 being a big hit and Captain America/Thor making money off being advertisements for the upcoming Avengers. Man of Steel was too far along by that point to make any major changes and Snyder (who WB wanted to push as a visionary director) had a lot of creative control due to a lot of his own money being wrapped up in the project. So Green Lantern was going to be the kickoff to their cinematic universe, their Iron Man, and then it totally flopped.

Then you have BvS which is a hideous homunculus between the director-driven Man of Steel and the studio-driven Avengers/Green Lantern styles. Most likely we're going to see the DCEU transition to the MCU's strategy of having gun-for-hire directors under the close watch of executives (namely Johns) to create a house style.

Let's be honest, there is a competition between them. They're rival companies and they compete for dominance in the box office. This usually matters when movies from both come out around the same time. We've seen plenty of times where one movie steals the thunder from another, which is why they try to space movies apart from each other.
