Since we are allowed 1 thread per board to talk about meta topics and I'm bored I have a few questions for oldfags:

What was /co/ like back in the day? Let's say... from 2006 to 2009. Was it drastically different? Better/worse? If you could bring back something what would it be? If you've actually been browsing this board since 2006... why haven't you left?
>>
>>95127715
got any more board-tans?anon
>>
>>95127715
I've been on 4chan since '06 and /co/ since '07. They were better times mostly since we were hoping that the movie universes would be good. As in we thought that we wouldn't get the same generic movie every year. We did however flip the fuck out when Nick Fury appeared at the end of Iron Man. We weren't hostile to everyone with assumptions that they were casual moviefags. We had a lot more story time threads.

I'm still here because I'm nearly 27 and still a loser who lives at home.
>>
>>95127715
Much better. Things were slower and less moderated. /co/ is love wasn't just a meme.
>>
You could post suggestive images of underage characters without the banhammer immediately crashing down on your skull.
>>
Two key elements: First, /co/ is love. Think of it as a reaction to the angry nerd rage parts of the internet. Being edgy by being nice.

Second. Pre gamergate, pre SJW controlling the narrative, the press, and the industry.
>>
>>95127715
We actually got shit done
Said shit wasn't autistic and actually fun
>>
I remember back when we called people /co/mrades, and when Trollfaces were used unironically all the time... But it wasn't all good. I remember there was a lot of love for the first Transformer movies, which made me want to leave /co/ for the first time and drop my trip.

And now, 10 years later, I'm still here...
>>
>>95127715
>What was /co/ like back in the day?
Why do I suddenly feel extremely old?
Is this what it feels like when your child asks you what it was like in your day?
>>
>>95127960
>hostile to casual moviefags
I don't think there's hostility towards moviefags...? We discussion of cape netflix stuff and movies is a given; it's another thing that most of them suck shit.

>a lot more story time threads
did cartoons kill this board?

>>95127974
Well 4chan as a whole has a lot more traffic now, so cancer is to be expected due large number of anons. But I think we're still less toxic and more accepting than other boards.

>>95128016
b-but anon! you can still do that

Pre moviefaggotry, mostly pre Avengers that's when the real /tv/ explosion happened, was a good era. Just much more comic content here in general. Now comics fight a two front war for board space against live action and cartoons

Out of curiosity, what made you drop your trip in the end? I always wonder if the tripfags of yesteryear just went anon or left altogether, we used to have a litany of them

>>95128265
>did cartoons kill this board?
I think they've managed to drown out some of the comics discussion alright, alongside live action. The invention of generals (which was primarily ignited by Avatar) certainly didn't help, since the majority of them are cartoon-based

Comics are unfortunately more niche and less accessible anyway, so it was bound to happen. Luckily storytimes, Win-Os and Shelf threads help maintain some form of presence for the medium here
>>
>>95128265

Judging by >>95128341 there clearly isn't as much hostility as there should be.

One of my favorite memories of the old days was Von Doom.
He was a guy that took over his college radio for an hour a few times a week and play /co/ related music. We all streamed it and chatted in the thread.
>>
>>95128427
Well, there's always been hostility toward tripfags, even in the olden days. But the reason I dropped my trip is because I made a big deal out of "leaving /co/" in that Transformers movie thread and I did leav for a few months, so when I came back I didn't really feel like reusing my trip. I wasn't as much of a circlejerker as othere tripfags such as Boco and Movie Theater Lad, though.

How exactly does one LARP on the internet?
>>
>>95127715
>Was it drastically different?
It was slower and because there was less moderation, there was more discussion. Less shitposting and fewer consolewars as well, as a lot of that came from /tv/fags and /v/.
>Better/worse?
Definitely better.
>If you could bring back something what would it be?
30 second image cooldowns. Kicking post cooldowns up to 60 seconds like most other boards for non-pass anons really killed storytimes. Also, less mods/moderation in general.
>If you've actually been browsing this board since 2006... why haven't you left?
Where else is there to go for comic book discussion online? Every other comic book forum is an over-moderated den of shit and shills. Sad as it is, /co/ is the only place you can go for honest opinions.

I've been on 4chan since about 2009, guess I'm a newfag, but lurked for a few years and started using /co/ about 2012/2013. I guess naturally I'm not going to be as jaded and cynical as other anons here:

I loved /co/ then - and still love it now.I don't know if it was a substantially slower board five years ago, but it very much felt like it.

Nice thing about /co/ is that everyone is plain honest about their opinions, indeed, it's what 4chan as a whole is all about. Into some preschool cartoon shit? No shame, just make a thread and somehow several dozen posters flock to it.

If you want to blast a writer for self-inserting themselves into a cartoon relationship, that stuff flies well too. I cherish that kind of freedom.
>>
>>95129227
senpai, we're talking about /pol/ in a /co/ meta thread. Like it or not, /pol/ dominates everything. Not just on 4chan, but in society at the moment. Everything is politicised and all it takes is one post thats could be taken slightly political to get a response that draws in more people and spirals into a 300 post discussion of shit.
>>
>>95128723
How many anons are even still aware of the OC /co/ still makes on a regular basis or even care for that matter?

Back during the early years there were AUs a-plenty (very few were saved to the /co/nservatory before we lost the old plus4chan /coc/ board archives), then jokes that become characters, then weird but amazing mix and match characters, and then some attempts to make actual comics (/co/ comics festival in 2011).
The remnants of that attempt actually did become comics (Pulp, Lovely Ladybug).

Mainly I remember there weren't so many people actively trying to piss other people off. Just in general more people seemed informed or willing to learn about shit. Like there were always people that were just starting out but they didn't act like they knew everything and they didn't make comments that suggested that getting caught was beneath them. I find that shit very annoying now. Drawthreads weren't primarily people trying to get waifu commissions drawn and getting bent out of shape or whiny when they weren't delivered in a timely manner or the artist decided to make some joke out of misspelling or poor wording of the request. THERE IS A TON OF FUCKING ENTITLED I see in /co/ these days.

I remember this from around when Watchmen came out.
>>
Most of my modern collection is made up of /co/'s recommendations and all the threads about the comics at the time.

Bendis's Daredevil. Immortal Iron Fist. Moon Knight. Annihilation. Ultimates 1 and 2. Utlimate Spider-Man and XMen. Deadpool and Cable. Y: The Last Man. DMZ. Cerebus. The Nam. GI Joe. Justice League International. Slott's She Hulk. X Factor. New XMen. JLA. JSA. Empowered. Hellboy. Transmetropolitian. Blue Beetle. 52. Lucifer. House of Mystery. Hitman. Queen and Country. Conan. Flight. Paul Dini's Batman. Invinicible. New Avengers. And even House of M.

I miss and love you, old /co/

New /co/ seems to hate everything and it's hard to blame them, but at least old /co/ still enjoyed discussing the bad ones, sometimes making the bad ones hard to miss (Ultimatum, Civil War, etc).
