I am really surprised that they are going forward with more Doom Patrol reprints. The first three are Morrison, and they just solicited the first 11 issues of Pollack's run.

Or they just stop after that one volume. They put out the first volume of Kid Eternity by Ann Nocenti and Sean Phillips but haven't solicited volume 2. I understand that it's not a popular series... at all. But still, why release the first volume and then cancel what would've been the second and last one? it's just...mean.

I donate mine to a youth shelter my mom volunteers at, go through my floppies every year and decide what I care about and will read again and what can go, then give a stack to my mom to take down there.

If you have a local boys and girls club, that would work, for ex.

Just donate them somewhere ppl will enjoy them, I can't believe there are ppl who just throw comics in the garbage or recycle bin.

Did they formally cancel the second one, or has it just not been solicited yet?
The Unwritten Deluxe Book One came out on December 14, 2016, and the second one was only solicited recently for a release date of December 27 2017. It might just take a while.
Looks like that Kid Eternity series was only 16 issues though, which makes me wonder why they did not just make one larger release.

No, I'm kidding, I own it too. But it's really popular with women. I can't wait for the Alan story he's writing next, Alan is one of the best characters and a story devoted to him sounds great. (2/2) Most recent addition is The Goon, which I bought on a whim. What a great series, never really see anyone talk about it on here. Plan on getting Vol. 2, Vol. 1 of the hardcover library edition Hellboy, & Vol. 1 of Judge Dredd Case Files probably within the week.
>>
>>95121076
Side note, I really wish I had a decent camera just to show off my Swamp Thing figure. The packaging itself is amazing, & the figure is so detailed. Totally worth it.

>They don't market reprints though so I dunno what the fuck they expect
That's what I've been saying. It's like they want to market these things to collectors that have already read the title but they fail to understand that collectors want to own full runs and will wait until it's all done until buying. They started reprinting Grell GA a couple of years back and they still haven't finished collecting ti because they release new volumes so slowly... why? are they afraid it's going to affect the floppy sale?

>>95113663
I don't remember if vol 2 ever got solicited. You bring up a good point about The Unwritten, it used to be pretty popular and they're still releasing the second volume more than 12 months after the first.
It's just frustrating because I never thought they'd ever collect this Kid Eternity series in the first place and it's just two volumes long... I can understand something like Sandman Msytery Theatre because it would still have to be at the very least 5 volumes long but even then I've seen a lot of people say they didn't buy the newer releases because they knew for a fact DC was going to cancel them.
>>
Does anyone know that if they're going to keep releasing conan omni for all the conan series? including the barbarian, the avenger, etc

I've really been digging Cobb's stuff. He drew a little sketch in my copy of Slow Drift that I didn't notice. He reminds me of Olivier Schrauwen a bit with how he draws people and the way he does speech bubbles. It eases the withdrawal a little bit.

Not that anon, but-
If you buy from IST, most fall between 50-80 USD if you buy them the week of release.
That said, I just picked up the NTT omni for 37.50 and Morrison DP for 85. I don't spend my comic money on anything else, and it's what everyone gets me as gifts too. They pile up fast.

It makes me kind of sad how fucked everyone outside the US is.
>>

Between 80 - 120 USD + 30 USD shipping (I live in Peru). I try to wait for sales on US Amazon, but yeah is not the cheapest hobby to have.

>37,50$

I don't know what NTT is but jesus fucking christ. there's literally no way in hell you can get it for that cheap over here. I'm only looking at paperbacks in order to save some money. like I said in another post, I'm getting my first oneshot in a few days but as far as the prices go for English Editions (no way in hell am I reading the German versions), the HCs are quite expensive in general.

Thought about getting All Star Superman (paperback) for 30€ (just calculated and it's about 20$ more expensive than the same book in the U.S.) and TDKR 30th Anniversary for 13€. Would love to get JL New Frontier and Watchmen afterwards

Man, you need to read Nexus if the idea of a retro-futurist-set superpowered assassin who kills at the behest of an omnipitent alien appeals to you. Mike Baron and the legendary Steve Rude on the art duties (though he did take time off now and again). Basically you can'y go wrong with the first 3 mag-sized comics, The Capitol colour standard sized floppies and the first 50 First issues. The Dark Horse mini-series have been utterly indispensable, too.

>>
>>95131999
No problem mate. I always liked Badger but came to the title because of the Nexus crossover--it happened early on, like issue 6 or something I believe? Baron gives him the greatest fucking lines...Btw Nexus issue 50 is "The Return To The Bowl Shaped World", 48 page squarebound, you can pick it up cheap (there are Nexus omnibuses about, too) like most of the Nexus floppies...though it did lose something when Rude left 'cause of a falling out with Baron, not many mainstream comic artists can compare to the guy and that's on an objective level, only real heir to Kirby working today, for me, he's done lots of stuff for DC and Marvel (recommend Thor: Godstorm, Spiderman Lifeline or his Mister Miracle one-shot, for instance). Plus Rude's own creation The Moth is a rollicking good adventure/cape story, like a Golden Age homage...I think the last thing he did was the Kirby Anniversary Kamandi issue. Sorry man I'm just a massive Steve Rude fan. Grew up with Nexus, y'know? Oh also there's the great World's Finest mini-series written by Dave Gibbons, which is WELL worth a read!

This is by far the largest shipment I have had in years, both in physical size and number of books.

Stray Bullets is mostly a blind-buy, and I went for the omnibus because it is surprisingly cheap.
Button Man I had read digitally before but wanted a physical copy before it goes out of print. It contains the three Ranson volumes, but not the fourth one illustrated by Irving.
I have read most of Morrison's DP before, but was enticed by the size of the volumes.

I've just had to pack up my collection for a move. Im up to... I don't know 15 long boxes of trades and more in boxes due to Absolutes, hardcovers, and so forth not fitting.

I read too many comics. It's weird because 10 years into this medium and I know of five series total I'm still interested in. So while I have a ton, I'm almost sort of done with exploring past ages.

>>
>>95136501
>I'm almost sort of done with exploring past
no, that just means you have to start looking for books. time to start finding something a bit obscure
>>
>>95136549
>an unneeded pretension
Sometimes yes, but then there's the option of different covers.
Say on a normal book where the dustcover has a more embarrassing design on it than the bare, one or two color hardback underneath, or vice versa.
Or in the case of the DC One Million Omni, where the original art is covered by the title and credits and other words.

I think the best thing I've ever found under a dustcover is on my Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy books, where it has the mascot stamped into it.
>>
>>95136668

Well. That's long series I'm about done with. I mean I'm in deep enough to have Nexus and be looking forward to more Dreadstar trades.

So I'm sure I'll hear about one or two volume things, but I doubt I'll find anything large and old. Barring of course some new collection of some classic.
>>
>>95136778
oh, I didn't get that you were talking about long series. That makes more sense. I like a lot of shorter stories and mini-series more than I like long runs, so it will take me a long ass time to run out of that kind of stuff
>>
>>95136841

I like both. I have a pretty healthy amount of like... midrange Indie stuff. As in from Vertigo, Image, creators who work on bigger books, etc. So I'm sure I still have plenty of odd gems to find.

But the big long series are the time and money sink.
>>
>>95136936

(I'm specifically talking about one or so volume series here.)
>>
God there's just something that bothers me about the smell of a new book with high gloss paper. Odd smell that gets into my throat.
>>
>>95136936
yeah, that's one of the reasons I hesitate to start those big series. I've been putting off Hellblazer and Sandman for so long cause if I dedicate to grabbing them it will be all my book money for a while. And I like variety
>>
>>95137064

Sandman at... about 15 volumes if you count every spin off is a bit much. Not too bad.

What sucks is I didn't care for it, but I wanted to see it through. I kind of want to reread it. Eh.

The worst is as far as characters go, I'm a huge Green Lantern fan so I have every single GL trade. Minus a few odds and ends. That's a damn shelf let me tell you.
>>
Bunch of good shit came out today. Is that Punisher Back to War any good?
>>
>>95137183
It's the same as Essential Frank Vol. 1 I think.. It's a solid read. Collects a bunch of Marvel magazine shit that's underrated as fuck too.
>>
>>95137180

Oh besides for GL, I also have everything Mignola. That's another big chunk.
>>
>>95137180
Gonna get that Kyle Rayner trade? Shit looks great.
>>
>>95137064
Yeah, Hellblazer is possibly the largest series out there that has a consistent reprint schedule. I am planning on starting that project next, because the new trades and spines have been remarkably consistent. Someone posted a shelf with all 15 of the volumes out, but there are still many to go (reprints are up to ~189, out of 300),
>>
>>95137260

Yeah. It looks like it'll slot in nicely between Emerald Twilight/New Dawn and Baptism of Fire. Eventually that set will be of material already collected, but that's a strong start of never before collected stuff.

And good god am I so hyped for the second Silver Age Omnibus coming out in November. Once that's out in one form or another I'll have every single Green Lantern comic. I have about..... 35.... Silver Age issues. But starting with Flash 218 when GL spent a few years as a back up, I have every issue.

I just really like that space cop thing, even when GL fails to live up to the premise. Green Lantern, the rare times Nova does that, Nexus, Dreadstar, Lensmen, Jedi, Rangers, Specters before Mass Effect revealed itself to be a bland turd. I love that idea.
>>
>>95137285

I think the trades are going to start getting meatier. I'm not sure though. Is there a confirmed schedule?

I need to get Swamp Thing first.

Swamp Thing, Animal Man, and Hellblazer are my last large company series to get. That last Animal Man volume never seeing print is annoying.
>>
>>95137285
I picked up the first two volumes on a whim when I couldn't find the next volume of Sandman I needed at my local bookstore.
It's odd that they're printed on unglossed paper, but it's appropriate, and it has all the original cover art in the back, including the Swamp Thing issues, though they have all the other little things like names and logos, unlike the Hellblazer covers.
>>
>>95137378

I wish they would just leave the issue covers in place. They act like chapter breaks. It's really helpful when reading comics not written for a trade to feel the rhythm of an issue.

So far up to Volume 18 has been solicited, and that is the last chunk of Mike Carey's run (#215, done in three trades). Denise Mina can probably be wrapped up in a single thicker trade since she only did 13 issues (and they would want to get through that as fast as possible).
Andy Diggle followed her for 18 issues, then Milligan did the last 50.

I've actually noticed that the trades have gotten smaller, but they are still around 11 issues each.

>>
>>95137503

My bad on the length then. Two other questions. Are they switching to a better paper stock for the later, more recent issues? Past a point it would make sense to switch due to art and coloring changes.

And do they include any of the various mini series and one shots and so forth?

I doubt anyone bought the first volume anyway so... They usually wait a long ass time tor release new volumes of already complete series from years/decades back(don't understand why) so if you want to own ti just shill it to people and convince them to buy. Knowing DC though...

Thanks, I'm always surprised I don't get torn into for the ponies, Sonic, and for the children comics

If it's the kind of thing you're interested in, it's very good. It's not like, say, Lenore, that I only picked up for completion's sake. The last volume has a couple shaky moments, but it's a pretty satisfying end and a very nice journey, especially if you like when magic and such is used as a coming of age metaphor.

cheap-comics.com and if you have a credit card or paypal, booksetc.co.uk.
Both deliver pretty quickly (takes around a week) and should arrive within a week. cheap-comics is seated in the Netherlands, booksetc's stuff comes via airmail.
cheap-comics is generally cheap with TPBs and HCs and when there are Absolutes and Omnis on sale they're piss cheap as well (there's always something on sale), plus they stack some stuff that's already out of stock on other sites. If you are into old DC stuff, take a look at their Archive editions collection, too. you can grab some for €5.
They have a flatrate shipping charge of €6.95 to Germany, so don't bother making an order of under €100. Packaging is incredibly good. lots and lots of padding, tpbs are packed into an extra bag to avoid dents in corners.

booksetc is great for Absolutes and Omnis. It's way cheaper than amazon, shipping charges are at a flat £1.50 and their packaging is all right, there more you order at once, the better the packaging, but if you just order omnis and absolutes the books are heavy enough to warrant a proper package with proper padding (bubble plastic foil).

Aside of that, get lucky with a comic shop somwhere near you and always take a look at ebay kleinanzeigen for stuff you like.

Also that Marvel omnibus sale from cheap-comics.com is apparently still up, but quite a few of them are already gone (some of the Fantastic Four stuff for example).

Funny thing though, cheap-comics seems to be down right now with a database error. check in later again. what I don't like with them right now is their site design though. they had a pretty nifty, utilitarian list design until a few months ago which was literally all I needed, but they changed that to some shitty fany-look design which only clutters everything up.
if you know what you want and what to search for, that may be fine. if you enter broad search terms like "superman" though, it will fuck everything up though.
>>
>>95167685
all these typos, fuck!
>>
>>95167685
never mind, it's up again.
also they have that message on top:
>For security reasons it is necessary to reset your password using the Lost Password option on the Loginscreen.
if you didn't have an account there before they changed the design (or if you don't have one at all) you can ignore that.
Check out the "Info" tab for how they handle the omnibus sale.
>>
>>95167649
>>95167685

I already checked those out and whether you believe it or not, Amazon is still the cheapest option in Germany. I don't know how expensive comics are in other Euro countries but apparently, Germany is cheaper than other countries but still more expensive than the US Amazon

>get lucky with a comic shop somwhere near you and always take a look at ebay kleinanzeigen for stuff you like.

checking out Kleinanzeigen all the time but most people don't sell US comics and if they do, they never sell the stuff I want
>>
Picked up three collections of untranslated Otomo manga for less than fiddy bucks on eBay. The largest volume is the AKIRA-sized limited reprint of his war epic Kibun Wa Mo Sensoo, over the moon that I found it over the more common tankobon sized version

The middle volume is his SOS! Tokyo Metro Explorers anthology and contains a lot of varied styles and genres, from a Shojo schoolgirl short to a Giraud-influenced Western tale. I hope Otomo gives the okay to translate these one day
>>
>>95167968
>I already checked those out and whether you believe it or not, Amazon is still the cheapest option in Germany.
probably depends on the comics you want. If I had found cheap-comics or had checked booksetc earlier, I would have saved literally hundreds of euros.
>>
>>95167685

German guy from before. Wasn't able to check out booksetc earlier because the links above were always wrong (it's actually booksetc.co.uk)

Why the hell are some comics so damn cheap? For example All Star Superman, it's at 13 bongdollars instead of 27 (the book is at about 30€ on German Amazon). Sounds like a great deal but I'm wondering whether they're selling used comics without a warning or whether it's just a goddamn bargain to begin with
>>
>>95168157

like I said here >>95168215 booksetc actually looks awesome if it's legit. cheap-comics has the same prices as Amazon and a too expensive delivery fee.
>>
>>95168215
no, it's all new except for where it's explicitly stated that it isn't (those are apparently secondary sellers though and booksetc is just their platform). pic related, it's been all new. compare the prices to amazon's (at the time when I ordered the War of Kings stuff, the Prelude omni was available on amazon.de for a nice €112.99, now it's €120, while prices haven't changed on booksetc).

>cheap-comics has the same prices as Amazon and a too expensive delivery fee.
it's piss cheap if you order bulk, I don't see the problem.
And you are aware you don't pay the delivery fee per book but per order, right?
you can pick literally a dozen tpbs for €5 each, how can amazon beat that? how?

>And you are aware you don't pay the delivery fee per book but per order, right?

too bad for you, no reason to dismiss it completely though, as you have done so far in every single post.

>Since Amazon doesn't have shipping fees on books, there's no reason for me to choose cheap-comics over Amazon
actually there is a good reason for it and that's your comics arriving undamaged. amazon often manages to manhandle my books, cheap-comics' stuff arrives with great packaging and in mint condition.
>>
>>95168693

>are you implying they might cheat you or it's all an elaborate ruse?

I guess both but since people link the site all the time, I might actually use them because of the cheap-as-hell prices.

Got this bad boy in the mail today. Anybody ever read this?
>>

I'm surprised Kodansha haven't reprinted it, I presumed Dark Horse still retained the English language rights and they could just get it off them.

Safe to say Mother Sarah will probably never be translated fully either

It was called Dragon Ball all the way through in the manga in Japan. The Z was an anime only addition that viz picked up when they licensed the manga.

nothing you listed is standing out in any way. almost everyone has read Berserk or Fist of the North Star, Saga is hot shit Eisner-bait hipster-garbage, Invincible is a mediocre super hero story with the occasional edge-spike, Low is mediocre at best except for the art and Sex Criminals is edgy trash.

but a lot of people have read Berserk.

Ripping somebody for their shelf which includes Vertigo Hellblazer, Judge Dredd, Sandman, and Bone by saying you read more than kids media and to prove it you post Saga, Low, Sex Criminals, Berserk, Fist of the North Star, Invincible, etc is incredibly moronic.

It would be like me ripping a classically trained pianist for their lack of skills and to back up my expertise I played a shitty acoustical version of a Green Day song.

Not bad list.

If ya wanted more Batman, I'd recommend
1. Batman Year One and/or Batman Long Halloween (early Batman stories that are always a good recommend)
2. Batman Court of Owls (n52 Batman storyarc that takes place before Death of the Family [and is better])
3. Batman Joker's Asylum 1&2 (collection of standalone short stories of some of Batman's most popular rogues)
4. Arkham Asylum Living Hell (story focusing on many of Batman's lesser known or stranger rogues, with a cool supernatural overarching story)

Also if ya liked Tower of Babel and that issue of WW interested you,
Look into JLA League of One or Wonder Woman run by George Perez as good starting in points.

it's speculated that it won't contain Mister Miracle, which consists of 18 issues. Mister Miracle is collected in paperback form right now. I think it's out already.
DC lists it as not containing Mister Miracle on its own site, but take that with a grain of salt, they list shit like a collected Legion Worlds trade as well, which was never released.

Oversized $50 hardcovers may not appeal to everyone, especially someone coming new to the comics because of the movies. A thicker paperback will be an easier sell.

Also the paperbacks are reordering the collections, one volume has the core plot and the other has all the side stories.

Amazon's customer service has been getting worse and worse. There's a chance it might improve now they're in the middle of doing a big wave of hiring for their warehouses.

They used to be so fucking good. They'd stack your books on a cardboard backing, shrinkwrap the stack, then put the whole thing in a cardboard box with plenty of bubble wrap or those air pillow things. But if they're understaffed then harried workers just end up tossing shit in a box and praying you won't get pissed enough to return it.
>>
>>95197561
it's a simple matter of saving padding material. imagine if you send out a hundred thousand boxes a day with good padding that costs extra, then compare it to a hundred thousand boxes with little to no padding and 30% return rates. maybe at the final count it's more profitable for them to do it this way, and they know they're getting away with it because most people don't bother using anything else than amazon nowadays.
