Volume 4 really showed that RWBY needs to have more and longer episodes, as 12 episodes per year that are about 13-16 minutes long aren't really cutting it. There are too many characters and plots spread out all over the place.

Sadly, the budget doesn't allow more or longer episodes.

RWBY chibi's existence will, unironically, benefit RT so much in the long run.
Colorful characters in funny situations is a child magnet. Having chibi ensures that RWBY's fanbase will continue to grow as this generation of kids grows with it.

So, it's essentially about this girl whose family hunt monsters for a living. Her mom died when she was like 2 so now she wants to grow up and be just like her (ignore how fucking stupid her motivation is, might be intentional) so in order to become like her mom she enrolls in this school for kids who hunt monsters wherein she meets the main cast.
