I mean I do watch and have watched some adult cartoons, but some shows for kids are still entertaining to me.

I dunno it's just entertaining to me. Good clean fun compared to cartoons for grownups, and more creative than live action crap such as Young Sheldon.

It helps that I like animation. And I don't really like drama, so it's a good thing that most cartoons are comedies.

If there was still stuff for kids that were WORTH watching, I would.

I always have, and always will be interested in animation and comics because that's what I've always wanted to get into. I watch cartoons from various eras and locations to compare and contrast themes, styles, etc. I also watch alot of cartoons just because they're so bad they come full circle and become entertaining again, but usually only with others in a stream or something - that's it's own brand of fun.

I'd love to make a series of my own someday, so in the meantime, I feel like I'm just kinda studying the various examples laid before me as "this is the current trend" to see what's what, and I enjoy doing it. Dual purpose, I suppose.

A lot of stuff is clever or worth watching even if you aren't the primary audience.

I enjoy them and find many to be genuinely funny
I think it's been standard the last couple of decades that something has to have mature content to be considered "adult", i.e. if a movie doesn't have at least a PG-13 normie adults won't even consider watching it, while back in the 60s stuff like 2001: A Space Oddysey and All The Presidents Men were rated G
I like to have a break from the constant sex and violence and enjoy something lighthearted, y'know? Plus the people writing for kids' shows are generally pretty weird folks so the jokes and references they slip in can be a lot more strange, creative, and obscure than stuff in mainstream media for adults
And I'm also fascinated by the art of animation and like a distinct character with a nice design. Cartoons are just a comfy place for me as I've literally always watched them and can't see why I would stop now

Hard to say. Honestly, I think it's a habit from my childhood. I turned on cartoons so I could learn English. Same reason I often watch movies with English Subtitles on even though I know English fluently. Nowadays TV episodes longer that 23 minutes feel too long to me as I like shorter bits to consume. I got bored with Daredevil and Jessica Jones for example. Movies go in a different but similar place because it's more of a 2 hours event every couple of years for the franchise kind of thing. I keep watching cartoons because I like the art form and in the end it's what I know.

Current line-up of "adult" cartoons don't align with my tastes. I don't like Rick & Morty despite giving it a chance with 8 different episodes, and I absolutely can't stand South Park either. (Too many annoying voices in both).

I also don't like it when people swear, cuss, and generally say stuff begging for attention and to be edgy.

So these days I watch the loud house, Steven Universe, Star Vs the Forces of Evil, Voltron, and now Wakfu. I love the Laika Stop motion films and catch up on about every Disney, Pixar, and Dreamworks movie.

It's strangely therapeutic and I do it because I was molested as a child. It may not be the best choice of therapy but it works and allows me to have a career.

Personally its because some cartoons made for kids just have straight up interesting or fun stories, the last unicorn, secret of kells, all the works of laika, etc. other times its nostalgia, the ducktales reboot, batman TAS, Justice League, etc. stuff I grew up with. Other times the shows could have cool settings or themes, AT(before it went entirely to shit) gravity falls(also before it entirely went to shit), wakfu, SU(not so much recently but S1 had bomb visuals and music and a really interesting story).

This actually dawned on me a few weeks ago. My father is a cop and he likes his job, so he spends most of his time watching TV procedurals and reading thriller/detective books. I sometimes watch a few of these shows with him, and some I find ok, like Elementary (the title pisses me the fuck off though) and Blacklist, but some others like NCIS and Rosewood are basically 50% corny jokes and 50% over the top drama, which is basically the same thing as a cartoon.
Really goes to show that the content is pretty important but the packaging even more so.

It's a virtually unrestricted medium, unlike live-action film, so it's allows a great degree of creativity. The ways it can be restricted (censorship and the like) actually serve to bolster the creative.
I doubt many people here actually watch cartoons for kids or teens. Most of the ones you call "for kids" are really for all ages, and contain a lot of adult appeal.
Cartoons have a stigma and condescending claims aren't helping.

Because kids media is, honestly, probably some of the most important media that gets put out. It's teaching the values of a society to another person, especially today when most people will just plop down a kid in front of a TV as a free babysitter.

Because it's the only place you can find animation, since anyone attempted an "adult animated cartoon" will just make it about porn and shitty drawings.

Because 99% of media made for adults is the same dull Hollywood topic with the same dull plot that is entirely done simply to waste two hours of your time. Sure, there is the occasional movie which is more involved, and I try watching those too, but they don't come out very often.

Because cartoon animations can do a lot of things that live acted movies can't or just don't do. At least, not anymore anyways.

Sometimes you need to relax by watching something simple that makes you happy, something that isn't too serious or edgy or full of deep drama with big insight about how things are, because things aren't that great in the world. It's escapism and relaxation.

Some people achieve this through watching sports, some people watch mindless reality tv or shit soap operas, some people read romance novels, some people follow celebrity gossip. I like to watch animated shows.

Obviously I watch the deep and insightful serious adult dramas too, but occasionally it's nice to watch something fun.

Depression and escapism

I literally cannot watch anything with real people; if someone gets stabbed on screen I can feel the blade stabbing me. I feel horribly awkward when a character is in a horribly awkward situation. I had to be escorted out of the dr strange movie during the surgery recovery scene because I passed out and threw up. Shit sucks, since I cannot really watch 90% of the media out there
