That can't be argued, yeah

I honestly thought something terrible was going to happen. Glad I was wrong.
>>95063112
Such a sweet moment, I thought so as well when I first read it.
Thanks for posting my favorite elseworld, Dave. It's the comfiest one that's ever existed.

I'm really hyped for creature of the night but I'm curious to how Busiek will pull of the real life Batman maybe he'll be able to actually pull of Batman level of feats but be physically destroyed by them
>>95063484
Thanks OP honestly it's one of my favorite Superman stories up there with All star
Thanks, OP. I loved this, a rreally good story
>>95061431
So are people hoping the Bat version of this is as good?
>>95067943
I know I am, but honestly how could it be anything other than depressing? How does it not end with Bruce Wainwright taking a bullet and bleeding out on the streets?
>>95068005
Yeah, I was just watching the last few episodes of this season of the Flash - and got to the episode where Barry lost all his memories and was happy and thrilled even more to find out he had powers. Bruce back story is his story and that's perfectly fine and all - not sure how you make it work, but I have to say I didn't expect some of the things in Secret Identity.
But I'm not one of these people who thinks pain or angst to motivate you to do the right thing is necessary much less a good story choice.
>>95067355
By the solicit Batman will be something born of Bruce Wainwright, but not be Bruce himself. Sort of like an idea breaking out of his head and beating up criminals.
>>95068005
I think it'll go like more idealistic readings of Don Quixote. He's a madman, but one with noble ideals whose quest inspired others.
This is a gud comic
>>95063484
always loved this book
>>95063838
ditto OP
>>95063051
vump
One of my favorite comic books.
> uphold the ideals of comic book heroes
is it really this hard Marvel
thanks op

>>95068005
THERE' GOING TO BE A BAT-VERSION OF ONE OF MY ALL TIME FAVORITE COMICS? WHEN??
>>95063484
I can say without a doubt Busiek's my favorite writer of all time. He just gets what superhero comics should be
so good
Back when I had a little money freed up, I knew I just had to have this book. It still doesn't disappoint after all these re-readings.
>>95061431
Immonen's art hasn't been the same since. It's a shame.
>>95061520
I adore when bullies get written with specific insults that go deeper than surface level. Metallo isn't D-list, but this jock has clearly done his research in order to accurately torment his target.
>>95074964
He's just versatile.
Thanks my dude, I've been meaning to give this another read
>>95063484
This ending always makes me misty-eyed.
>>95061431
thanks op

End of November, and here's the solicit.
BATMAN: CREATURE OF THE NIGHT #1
Written by KURT BUSIEK
Art and cover by JOHN PAUL LEON
Young Bruce Wainwright lost his parents in a violent crime…and in the real world, no superheroes exist to save the day. But as grief and rage builds inside Bruce until he feels he can’t keep it inside anymore, something strange starts taking wing in the Gotham night! Perhaps Bruce’s grief isn’t inside him after all?
Modern masters Kurt Busiek and John Paul Leon unite for the spiritual companion to the beloved SUPERMAN: SECRET IDENTITY, putting a new spin you’ve never seen before on the legend of Batman—and the dark emotions that drive him!
On sale NOVEMBER 29 • 48 pg, FC, 1 of 4, $5.99 US • RATED T+
>>95079768
Might as well post the rest of the preview as well.
Obvious difference to Secret Identity straight of the bat as while Clark hated the Superman thing it seems Bruce is super into Batman.
>>95079794
The preveiw does skip pages, going by the DC website filenames this is page 5.
>>95079806
Also going by that page, Bruce's parents are shot on Halloween, obviously aligning the event with Batman in his mind as he was in full costume.
>>95079826
Finally a look at the Batsuit. Though going by the incredibly stylised nature of it, and the ''Perhaps Bruce’s grief isn’t inside him after all?'' from the solicit, it seems there is something more than Bruce in a suit happening here.
>>95079852
Secret Identity dealt a lot with the idea that we keep parts of ourselves separate from our ordinary, public lives and how we must eventually reconcile those distinctions. Perhaps Creature of the Night will take that to the extreme, with the Batman here being an actual separate persona Bruce manifests to deal with his issues. Much like people joke about with the "real" Batman, which itself has become largely adopted in the comics. It's a little bit more out there, in terms of the kind of character study dynamic Secret Identity had, though. At least it feels to me.
Split personalities are something of a myth, I am given to understand, in the realms of modern neurology. But perhaps they're still real enough in the readers' minds to work for this kind of story. Of course, if we're following the same kind of coming of age life cycle story the first one did, this goes out the window.
>>95079768
So Bruce and Batman aren't said to be the same from the solicit. This might be kept a mystery and a possible twist until the end.
>>95061431
Probably my favourite Superman story. Thanks OP!
Bit later to the storytime but thanks for the dump OP, this was great.
>>95063484
Thank you very much for posting this OP. Reading this really has made my day.
>>95063484
What a story.
>>95063484
First time reading this and I loved it.
>He became friends with the agent who tried to catch him
>Managed to usher in a golden age of superheroes by helping people
>That interaction between Clark and Lois
>That Dad superman costume
Comic Supes would be proud
