I'll grant you Launchpad and Dewey, but the former was always dense but good natured and the patters main character trait is how strong-headed and adventure hungry he is. Is that why Donald and Scrooge seem to hate each other?
Is that why Donald is over protective?

>>95038201
canonically, yes. the triplets parents are dead.
>>
>>95038201
>If Donald is the uncle where are the parents of the triplets? Are they orphans?
The philosophy is to avoid parents existing. Because being parents imply that they have sex at some point. Everyone is either uncle/auntie or nephew/niece. It is just an old-school puritanisc way of the world.

In any case, the comics had the children sent to Scrooge because they sent their father to hospital with explosives. After that there is no mention of the parents, you can assume that they were abandoned for being too much to handle. Eventually Scrooge was given full guardianship over them without mentioning why.

Note that the triplets were not meant to be permanent cast members in the comics when they were drawn. That is why their continued existence is hard to explain.
>>
>>95038201
In the comics their mom (Donalds sister) just dumped them at his doorstep. Not sure what happened to their dad.

Donald: Boys, I have to go help your Uncle Sora for a while. All these dimensional rifts are almost locked up tight, but until then, do you remember what I told you about strangers?
Huey: If they've got too many buckles, then they're probably trouble.
Donald: And?
Dewey: If they have long zippers then they want your heart for dinner.
Donald: Good. Louie, you have a question?
Louie: Will you at least get us a souvenir this time?
Donald: I would if I could, but all the other shops in the multiverse just sell jewelry, weapons, and cough syrup.

WHY THE FUCK ARE KNATTE, FNATTE AND TJATTE VOICED BY CREEPYSOUNDING ADULTS?
>>
>>95038201
It depends on the writer; in Don Rosa's interpretation, the mother (Donald's sister, Della) and father (name unknown) aren't mentioned, although I believe he once stated that his personal headcanon was that Della had gone off to the mystical land of Trala-la (possibly the father was from there?)

There's a different canon popular in Italy where Della was an astronaut that got lost in space.

???
WTF are you smoking
The idea, is that in the 1910s, adaption within the kin was not uncommon. For reasons.
It can be drugs, work exhaustion, mental issues, or simply really bad parenting.
You do know you have Godparents, right, anon? Relatives?
This isn't about adoption to deal with puritanism. Its about their parents failing a little in their job, get sent over, and it works so well they keep on doing it.

>The idea, is that in the 1910s, adaption within the kin was not uncommon. For reasons.
The triplets were not adopted for years and years. The point is that you use nephews and nieces because they can be summoned when the plot needs them, but then put them away offscreen when you need them gone. If they were actually adopted into the family then they have to be constantly accounted for. The adoption happened later on when it was accepted that the triplets will be a permanent cast.
>>
Donald is, as always, the best character. Scrooge, Webby and Launchpad are pretty cool. The triplets are insufferable so far.

I don't know how I feel about the new show. On one hand it did make me laugh at a few points.

But comparing the first episode special to the original 5 part special so much seems to be lacking in the characters and adventure department. The original had such a strange appeal of how jolly and upbeat everything was especially from the kids and Scrooges love for them and the artstyle and backgrounds. Now it just seems lacking and I guess the kids are based on modern older kids instead of young boyscouts which may be why I can't stand them so much. Also Mrs. Beakly is a bitch for some reason and Webby is more cringey than in the original. That is mindblowing to me.

I will keep watching and see how it goes but I feel like if this show just didn't have the title and IPs of Duck Tales I would say I like it but because it has so much to live up to and it isn't directed towards trying to be like the old show I unfairly feel like it is falling flat for me.
>>
So where does the Duck Universe sit in the Disney cannon? Did they ever have crossovers of Mickey and others in the orginal Duck Tales? Will we possibly see it in this series?

Donald went into the Navy and in this one he was looking for work, Scrooge has a job in both, and even Pete sold cars or something right? The fuck does Goofy and Mickey do all day? Even in Gooftroop did he have a job did Donald or Mickey ever show up on that show either?

That sounds like bullshit and somone might have just said that because she's kind of "vampy" so of course gay guys have liked her already for decades, right? >As for Gladstone's relation to $crooge, "Race to the South Seas" IS the story to go to... but only partially, as Barks made an ERROR in that story in explaining who Gladstone was to $crooge. Barks pointed this out to me himself when I was quizzing him while building my "official" Family Tree. The line in that story of Gladstone being the son of $crooge's sister's sister-in-law is the accurate one. I can't recall what the second phrase was in the story... something about $crooge being somebody's brother or such... but it is clearly contradictory to the previous line and should be ignored.

Don Rosa's statement on the whole thing.

>>
>>95042946
This Don Rosa's headcanon.
>>
>>95042780

Ludwig doesn't pop up in the comics much because his role as a genius inventor/scientist is filled by Gyro. That's probably why he gets excluded.

Thing is, Ludwig wasn't created for the cartoons to be a scientist like he's portrayed now in everything. He was supposed to be a historian and know-it-all. Characters went to him when they wanted to learn about something, not when they needed some crazy hi-tech device.
>>
>>95042981
Ludwig was actually mandated against in the comics for a time because they wanted it to be just Gyro. Pretty sure Rosa's tree was made during that time period. He's allowed to be in comics more these days.
>>

I fucking hope so. This show's potential to reinterpret the origins is basically the best part at the moment.

That makes more sense, then. I read that Rosa would try to sneak Ludwig into his stories by putting him in crowd scenes or drawing him from behind and see if the editors would notice.

I think the fact that Rosa likes Ludwig enough to keep him in his head canon and to try and sneak him into his comics puts a knife in rumors that he hates anything from the animated universe.

Canonically ... we don't have 100% confirmed answer for this. Unfortunately, the rocket went near the speed of light, and time dilation caught up with her - she's been gone for years, but to her it's barely an hour.
>Why do Donald and Scrooge hate each other?
Donald in the comics dislikes working for Scrooge, because Scrooge criminally underpays him. Unfortunately, between Donald's misfortune and his ill temper he's borderline unemployable by anyone else.

What Glomgold characterization are we talking about, here? He's ranged from just a simple copy+paste of $crooge but without the family (his earliest appearances) to an outright monster. I asked mum about it and she said that he'd smoked one after each of us kids were born. Later my uncle came to visit and brought along some old photo albums of my dad when he was in his 20s in the army that he'd dug up. My mother, sisters and I had never seen these photos. A few of the photos showed dad with a cigarette in his mouth.

My mum on the other hand gave up smoking when I was born, but started again when I was about a year old. She gave up for good when the first of my sisters were born a few years later. There were a few old albums with photos that showed me as a toddler and then showed mum smoking. The first of my sisters knew this, but the younger didn't, because by the time she'd come along, most of the albums had been put into storage. She pulled them out a year or so ago and was completely surprised that mum use to smoke. She asked mum and mum just replied with a "yeah..." like she'd just been asked "did you use to drive a red car?". Mum felt just saw it as something trivial that she use to do, but doesn't anymore.

He's Långben(Longlegs) in Sweden, and Fedtmule(Fat-Muzzle or Big-Mouth?) in Denmark.
>>
>>95056933
Certainly. Sweden suffered from having "They just didn't care"-tier translators for a long time, which is why we have Kalle Anka instead of something with alitteration, Gyro and Scrooge sharing the same first name(Joakim, even if Gyro goes by the nickname Jocke), Scrooge and Ludwig von Drake both being named von Anka and such, as well as the rather nonsensical name Alexander Lukas for Gladstone(at best you could say Lukas sorta sounds like Lyckost, essentially a version of "lucky bastard).

Things are quite different these days, back in the 80s, Stefan Diös took over as primary translator for the swedish duck comics, and he was a founding member of the biggest Donaldist group in Sweden.

He feel like the kind of duck to do that, would make a good story too, Scrooge being exceedingly greedy and paranoid of peoples discovering and using the lamp, only for Donald and the triplet to discover Scrooge wished them something good and to take another wish would cause harm to them. If it wasn't already done, that is.
>>

Scrooge's name (Skrue) meaning screw in Norwegian made for an extremely good pun in Don Rosa's stories about the universal solvent.

The Norwegian word for solvent basically means "loosener". Some clever translator played around with this and called it "Skruelos", basically "loose screw" as in having a few screws loose, but with "screw" also being Scrooge's name, and "loose" being "solvent". Brilliant.
>>
>>95060378
Cartoons exist in the eternal present where you can reference past events but aren't beholden to the effects of time.

Superman would be over a century old at this point if he was 30 in his first appearance, but he's always going to be in his late 20's-mid 30's unless the story specifically calls for him to be older or younger for that moment.
>>
>>95060163
>>95059519

Don Rosa's canon is separate from other writers' canons, but all his stories can be slotted into a timeline with no continuity errors. It's not a "headcanon", he is the author and if he says Scrroge dies in 1967, then that's canon to his stories.

Rosa's canon is the only one that is relevant to his own stories, which 90% of the time are the ones that are being discussed on /co/. It's also the strongest influence on the new show. We can safely assume that time passes in the new show since it deals more with chronology the same way Rosa does.

Like, the economic sides of short stories in Donald Pocket features Scrooge and Donald in small enterprises, tends to go further than anything I have seen in non specialized manga.

Its not Pro Capitalist, its more about willingness to depict it, as it is.
From things like Buyouts to acquire tech/patents/manpower, Corporate Raiding, startup Enterprises doing niche entries, Stock Marked sheenigans, the nightmare or parallel legal system in other nations, anything involving international sea law or salvage.
The list goes on.

>And I hope that the Triplets point out Donald's irrational hatred of Gladstone.
It's Gladstone. His entire character is being so insufferable that he inspires disgust in *everyone* around him.
Nobody would think that he's a pretty upright guy ever, so your inane twist would never work.
>>
>>95067188
in Italian stories, he's insufferable because hes RIDICULOUSLY lucky and lazy, but he's a dick only to Donald and almost exclusively because Daisy.

So, yeah. >>95065974's fanfic cannot happen because the source of the problem is Daisy.

Isn't it Svarte-Petter?
>>
>>95067760
It is, but the curse of regional accents is that Svart becomes Sort, and then you remember that Donald is written with some harsh straight bokmål, and you can't write it properly for shit
And so, Svarte-petter, the poor left out, is still left out.

To this day the Norwegian Disney localization that confuses me the most is still Ole Brumm for Winnie the Pooh. The Duckburg characters being based on nursery rhymes and stuff that some alliteration or rhythm to it is fair enough.

The Spike drawing was in pencil. The intern deliberately drew over it in pencil, then drew over their own pencil sketch in permanent marker to ensure that no one could ever draw over their drawing.

Hence why people are angry. I don't think people would care as much if they had just done it in pencil, but the fact they redid it in permanent marker made it clear they knew they were destroying something and trying to prevent someone from getting rid of their retarded thing in the future.

It's very well animated though and has pretty expressive characters with lots of personality, and a great soundtrack.

no that's still part of Rosa's continuity, however there it's shown as Scrooge's darkest moment, and one that he feels shame for doing in the present
>>
so /co/ which one would you want more to happen;

Scrooge/Goldie

or

Scrooge/Beakley

Scrooge/Goldie

Beakley works better as a Brock Sampson style adventure companion than a love interest. Plus she was already married at some point if she has a grandkid.
>>
>>95069169
personally I'm kinda conflicted, cause Scrooge/Goldie is a classic ship, but there's just something about the idea of Scrooge/Beakley that I really like, the size difference is definitely part of it, but there's more to it than that I'm sure

And don't forget the Generation Defining "I am a loser who's been transported Into the Fantasy world that I Partook in and helped shape as a means of escapism as the persona that I built, and am now facing the results of my Actions made manifest, but instead of looking at the world and using my newfound power to take the opportunity to try and grow as a person and become the Person I want to be in both this world and the last while simultaneously helping the people affected by my prior actions and creatures that formed as a result of my Younger self's hedonistic, shortsighted escapism find individual happiness and meaning so that they can grow into something more than sycophant homunculi, I'm just going to play Anti-hero and fight random Cartoonsishly evil villians who inevitably job to me, either to wank my power level or for a "Keikaku" moment, with my cast of 2D caricature minions and Waifus with Paltry character development for any of us, essentially learning nothing and conintuing the same cycle of escapist bullshit"

I know it's trash, but goddammit it could have been Great. The Premise itself could have been good so many things that could have been done.

>Guy finds out he doesn't have the heart to be a real cold blooded ruthless bastard, tries to change his image overnight but it fails because he can't undo the horrible hints he did in The past, so instead he tries to adopt a more Cartoonish villain Persona like skeletor, where he does bad things for resources but he tries be clean to keep the body count and suffering to a minimum, complete with a cheesy performance and all, while secretly helping improves those places either through influence or violence killing off actual Evil People
>Guy initially feels fear towards his minions which morphs into disgust and contempt as realizes what a bunch of shits they are which then turns into Shame and guilt when he realizes that he is part of the reason that they are twisted caricatures of human beings as he then undergoes efforts to help them become individuals who can exist without revolving around him, like trying to convince the waifu after his dick that there could be better people whose company she could enjoy and who in turn would enjoy hers.
>Finding some random Schmuck Mercenary to play the part of He Man to his Skeletor, and thwart whatever plans he had before anything really bad happened who wild go on to become his closest confidant and friend who he turns to whenever the evil villain routine drags on him and whom he would build my into a hero In both ability and reputation
>Leaving his Lair in disguise with that Nebi chick who looks like a human but is racist towards humans and Not!He Man to go adventuring because the other minions are getting on his nerves and wants to take down people he views as actually evil.
>Character where Nebi or whatever and Not!He Man bond over adventures go from bickering rivals begrudgingly tolerating each other's presence to close friends (and maybe more)

But in this case, Donald was too worried about his nephews that Gladstone managed to win.

How is that hard to understand?

And it's not like Euro Disney comics didn't give Donald far superior girlfriends for him to rebound off of.
>>
>>95050046
That also cost him several times over, ranging from very lucrative deals to losing contact with what was left of his family from the voodoo curse that accompanied his cheating.

>>95072165

Partially, but with character growth as Skeltor tries his best to be a big damned hero but has to face the consequences of his past and his own human flaws. Although the fact that's an Isekai would allow it to work really well as an Allegory (or metaphor whatever the fuck it's called) for the issues in the guys past that he was trying to escape from IRL, such as loneliness, sexual frustration, feelings of incompetence/powerlessness in his own life, feeling insignificant and insecure in one's worth as human being, and other such Human problems that people often want to escape from in Real life. Like, That one thirsty waifu chick I mentioned (unless I'm misremembering things for other shows), she could be the result of his frustration at not having a girlfriend so he made a waifu in the game, only now that he's actually with her, he finds her insufferablly annoying as she as no other real personality other than her attraction to him, and finds him self questioning why he had ever wanted such a hollow and empty love in the first place. It's basically facing his younger more foolish self and either fixing his mistakes or coming to peace with them.
>>
>>95072732
That actually sounds pretty bitchin. I would love to watch that as long as it wouldn't devolve into family guy tier comedy like every other Adult Cartoon.

Not all of them. She works well in shorts. But I agree, Her character just isn't capable of carrying her weight in longer, more narrative focused stories. They would need to give her some heavy reworking to actually contribute to Ducktales instead of just being a waste of space.
