Why are there 2 different boards for animation? Name one valid reason why we shouldn't merge /a/ and /co/.Also what are the differences between anime and toons.
>>
/gif/ and /wsg/ is for animation, those should be included as well.
>>
we should have one board for animation (eastern and western), one board for TV and movies, and one for capeshit
>>
>>95003248
Because mixing the two would lead to East vs West autism.
Also, the Comics and Manga board that would be made with your proposal would be far more autistic than Comics and Cartoons, and that is the last thing this entire site needs.
>>
Cartoon is for kids.
>>
>>95003354
Let's go further and make distinct boards for cartoons, comics, anime, and manga
>>
>>95003248
There is absolutely no difference between the two.
There are just basement dwellers with absolutely nothing in their lives so they pretend that because they like anime or western animation over the other that makes them better than the people that like the other one.

Agreed While we r at it there should be separate boards for French, polish, african animation.
>>

/a/ is the worst board on this site. 90% tits, ass and loli posting, and the mods will ban you for asking for recommendations.

Its be a great Aprils Fools event, but the cultures are too radically different. It'd be like merging us with /mlp/

There's a great deal of people that have about 90% of their consumption leaning towards either cartoons or anime. So why not keep the boards separate?

I myself watch a ton of anime, tons of animated movies, but can count on 2 hands the number of tv cartoons I care about.
>>
>>95003458
>the mods will ban you for asking for recommendations
That's a global rule, though.
>>
Because /a/ complains. Why do you think there's multiple cartoon porn boards? Because /a/ complains.

Societal context and general popularity.
Japanese animation is generally treated differently from the west because Japan in general treats animation differently. While in the west animation continues to have a stigma from the general public that it's a "childish" medium, Japan goes nuts over animation and comics and is absolutely wide spread. Despite Disney being one of the largest corporations on Earth and Mickey being one of if not the largest mascot on Earth, Japan itself has a far larger market for animation.

Secondly is popularity and how much animation is released. Because Japan's market loves anime the market is practically overflowed. Every year around 200 different animated shows get released. In America you're lucky if you'd have three new released shows. If western and eastern animation was put in a single board all discussion for western made animation would be completely flooded from eastern animation threads simply because there is far more to talk about.
>>
Fucking weebs and their elitism can stay over on /a/ thank you. No need to make /co/ any more of a shithole than it already is
>>
>>95003470
It be /ac/ as for animation and graphic novels
>>
>>95003248
I agree, we should instead have a board for cartoons and anime (/carn/), and another for comics and manga (/coma/).
>>
>>95003354
>Because mixing the two would lead to East vs West autism.

But the east are not an enemy any more. You can't even hold elections in the US without Russia contributing their help.
>>
Imagine the bitch fits we'd have if /a/ and /co/ were merged together all along. We barely managed with Marvel and D.C.

Honestly, it wont happen, but the best thing for actually interesting discussion would be more boards. My nevergonnahappen dream is:
>/co/ - Comics
>/ca/ - Cartoons
>/a/ - Anime
>/m/ - Manga
>/ar/ - Retro Anime and Manga (replace the mecha board, anything before 2000)
>/tv/ - Television
>/film/ - Film
>/celeb/ - Celebrity (ban all actor/actress/eceleb wank from all boards)

/vr/ proves unequivocally that splinter boards work and generate better discussion.
>>
>>95003468
There is actually no reason why /mlp/ should stay its own board. The bronies are WELL past their prime. One pony general would be enough for them at this stage. They should be reintegrated into /co/.
>>
>>95004569
Pandora's box has been opened, they have an identity and will fight to protect it.

Old wounds run deep on the boards and you can expect a lot of backlash even if they behave.
>>
>>95003983
What the fuck are you talking about?
>>
>>95004600
>Old wounds run deep
I bet my dog and lot most posters on /co/ today are newfags who never experienced the asinine heights of ponymania autism. Hell, most posters on /co/ today probably never even met the faggot who created /mlp/ in the first place.
>>
>>95003248
/a/ is full of discussions abut waifus, lolis and pantsus, and that stuff will completely overflood all /co/ discussion if we combine them.
Besides, /a/ is its own board. It's one of the first boards. It must always remain its own board, for reasons of history, tradition, and containment.
>>
>>95004569
>"they"
You will never be allowed back, accept it
>>
>>95004815
It only takes a few posters to start a shitfit.

Remember more than 50% of board regulars don't post at all.

>Why are there 2 different boards for animation? Name one valid reason why we shouldn't merge /a/ and /co/
But we have 0 boards for animation, what we have are two boards for a bunch of autists to talk about which cartoon girl they want to fug

Instead of merging /a/ and /co/, the mods should add a new board,
/ani/ - animation
No talking about the characters from shows, just animation, animators, and the act of animating. It would be a place for people that actually animate or just appreciate animation in all forms to talk to each other without people derailing the thread with shitty dumps of little cartoon girls
>>
>/a/- Anime and Cartoons
>/co/- Comics and Manga

Fixed
>>
>>95004600
>you can expect a lot of backlash even if they behave.
they behaved when they were on /co/, it was falseflagging shitposters that spammed all the other boards.
>>
>>95003458
>and the mods will ban you for asking for recommendations.
We should do that here too desu.
>>
>>95004569
If anything they should just refactor /mlp/ into a board for /a/ and /co/ related generals.
>>
>>95005457
We already have sakugatwitter for that. And the actual sakuga whizzes would never take a step into /ani/ so what's the point. Chan culture is beneath them.
>>
>>95003500
Every board got along immediately but not /mlpol/. They bitched and moaned until the day was almost over.
>>
>>95005651
They might eventually, and its not as if there aren't enough people on 4chan to populate the board.
Sure, it wouldn't be as fast as /v/ or /pol/, but there is nothing wrong with having a board that moves at an /ic/ pace

A board where people could share progress, ask for help, and share interesting new and old animation that they love would be amazing. There are more than enough styles of animation to keep plenty of active threads up as well. You would have sprite artists from /v/, /vr/ and /vg/, 3D animators from /co/ and /3/, traditional animators from /a/ /co/ and /ic/, hell even stop motion animators or whatever else people want to talk about.

I've been dreaming of an animation board for years, but I guess I might be overestimating how much people like animation
>>
>>95003248
>itt newfags that think that splintering the boards will make the site better
I'll give you that there should be 1 or 2 boards for manga/comics storytimes because as of now is a drag to be the storytimer/reader. But because the pass reduces the image posting time, it will never happen.
4chan is not a fucking forum, we don't need to have 100 different boards for each topic on planet earth. And no, generals do not clutter /co/ like they did with /v/ at most we have like 4 generals running at the same time, with 130+ possible threads at the same time, they are not killing any discussion on the board.
>>
>>95005521
What is wrong with asking for recs? My interests are pretty niche and I would have never found the comics I read if it wasn't for someone on /co/ pointing me in the right direction.
I could understand that it would be annoying if it was something people did everyday but maybe it could be confined to its own thread or something.
>>
>>95003354
/aco/ was created literally because of East vs West autism on /d/

It's literally because /d/ couldn't handle western art styles /aco/ had to be created.
>>
>>95004124
>/co/ would be obliterated in minutes
/a/ isn't that much more active.
>>
>>95005820
go on any of the porn boards and you'll understand why
>>
>>95005817
>tfw you run a story time on /v/ that spans 5 threads and some autist hops in the final thread and starts throwing a fit and reporting everything until the thread gets deleted because he decides "COMIC SPAM ISN'T FUCKING VIDEOGAMES REEEEE"
>>
>>95003458
Remember a time when we had refugees here on /co/, people going all i want to discuss this but /a/ is too mean?

Funny how that doesn't happen anymore.

/a/ has it right, have the mods enforce the rules or the board goes to crap.
>>
>>95005820
Good way to get recommendations
>Hey /co/ have you heard about this cool detective/mystery french comic set in the US prohibition era? Can you recommend me more with the same setting/tone/artstyle?
Bad way to get recommendations
>I like Spiderman what should I read?
>>
>>95003248
Anime and Manga come from the east
Cartoons and Comics come from the west.
What's hard to understand about that?
>>
>>95005820
It helps avoid "What are some anime about [Recent political event/off-topic bullshit]" threads
Look at /tv/ for reference as to why that rule should be enforced

If you really want recs just google that shit or lurk to find something that interests you
>>
>>95005922
What was that?
>>
>>95006001
Where does Russian animation fit in
>>
>>95003354
Some people like both, but there would undoubtedly be a large "glorious Nippon" faction.

Personally I'd be down with a Comics & Manga board. Fuck animation.
>>
>>95003458
/tv/ is worst board period.
>>

>>
>>95006602

>>
>>95006730

>>
>>95003248
Why don't /ck/ and /an/ merge? I mean, we eat animals and nature, so it makes sense.
>>
>>95006730
If you think lolis are bad, /tv/ posts jailbait and when mods are not quick enough you can actually see pedo shit being posted. Not to mention almost no discussion on the topics (movies and tv series), instead you get /pol/ tier memes.
And if you are such a pussy about going there, just go to reddit and look for all the shit they screencap. It's just /pol/ shit marginally related to movies.
>>
>>95003354
Not only that but webcomic autism and other cartoon debacles are already well together.
>>
>>95004124
Are you fucking kidding me, anone? This board is fucking riddled with waifufagging. Sometimes multiple threads at a time.
>>
>>95003248
Disgusting.
>>
>>95003248
Because Weebs will get super asspained and autistic and ruin any kind of merger for everyone.
>>
>>95004558
Fuck you, nigger. Let my toku and mecha be.
>>
>>95005491
When it comes to comics and manga, I tend to mostly read one or the other during a given time frame. I get used to reading in one direction and I need a transition period to switch.
>>
>>95003248
And I was thinking that /co/ should be divided into /Co/mics and /Ca/rtoons.

There's nothing wrong with that. Mouth breathers who don't know how to search for stuff and are too cowardly to jump in a new series without the approval of their peers should remove themselves from the genepool
