How is it even fair to compare these two?


Xaiver was an obscure show that barely had any traction, seemingly shoestringed together by a writer clearly on some kind of LSD-bender.

There was very small quips that had me smirking a bit, but for random humor it was so incoherent it was hard to make any resonance. Rarely did the show have a 'straight man' to bounce off Xaiver's insane antics - generally they were short-gags or quickly succumbed to the 'lol randumb xD' humor and became just as bizarre as everything else.

I think it was a type of show trying SO hard to be anti-mainstream it pushed away most that would consider it a 'cult following' sort of becoming this briskly aired, barely nostalgic show, like "oh yeah, that was a thing that happened."

Yes I assume if you were high as balls this show may make more sense and seem 'deep'. I guess it gets some points for being 'different'.

Rick and Morty on the other hand is fair more digestible and marketable to a larger audience. It's got groundings,rules and even consistent characterization, along with its handful of insanity and normality to compliment each other.

Rick has a reason to do things, Xaiver just blindly babbles on or aimlessly wonders into situations (generally making them far worse) and has weird encounters. Yes, perhaps Xaiver is the Anti-Rick - a literal chimera both of body and mind that has no place in the world, desperately searching for meaning.Rick is a god that can do just about anything on a whim and is almost always in control.

Also keep in mind Rick and Morty have a narrative, characters whom presumably have arcs and isn't one to shy from actual drama and conflict.

Xaiver on the other hand is just a bombastic torrent of joke after joke. Characters are only there to constantly spurt lines (much less doing) and see which one may stick. There is no "story" or real "characterization" just mouth-pieces with bare BARE minimal 'traits'. Xaiver tries to be a wise guru guy, but just ends up doing alot of gross questionable stuff. Everyone else either is absolutely terrible or has some tragedy befall them or is simply indifferent/offended.

That was the point, Anon. It's a show with PS2 graphics who's main character is an incoherent chimera of both beings and ideas. Did you not get the point of it after episode 1? If anything, give it credit for being LITERALLY unpredictable. While Rick and Morty is an actual show, made with an actual budget and people of name to their back, XRA is as underground as it gets on TV. Comparing it is not only unfair, but irrational. Rick and Morty is a love letter to sci-fi and Roiland's crude humour, while XRA is an excercise on stupidity and logical phalacies. To me, that's what makes it so fucking great. It even comes back full circle in its jokes that sometimes it actually makes a point, while not original nor new, on the nature of being and humanity, and the futility of it all. AquaTeenHungerForce got alot more traction in terms of popularity and still got pretty crazy from time to time. Loved the original Space Ghost or Sealab2021,The Brak Show,Frisky Dingo, Squidbillies,Harvey Birdman,Metalocaylpse (a bit less random humor),Home Movies (again, not absurdist),Moral Orel, Robot Chicken.. the list goes on. I get these are more 'normie' titles that found more success then XRA.

Hell even Tim and Eric probably felt more 'normie'. Still for me, it just doesn't have enough substance to be a long-lasting 'story' in my mind. There is nothing to attach to, just word-salad.

I keep hearing this in other threads, but it's simply not the case. XRA follows its own internal logic, nothing in the show is presented if it doesn't make sense in the context of itself. Xavier doesn't suddenly turn to the camera in the middle of say, the episode about that sign-language gorilla and go "I LUUUUV WAFFLES!" It's absurd humor, yes, but not random humor. There's always a base that each joke kicks off from.
