How to fix Iron Fist
>Hire Donnie Yen to choreograph the fight scenes

>frankly they lack any sort of force or "punch" to them no pun intended. Yen is a great performer and also a great fight choreographer and would have Iron Fist actually look like someone who knows how to fight rather than someone who is badly pretending to

>Have Finn Jones train with Yen and a stunt team for fucking months

>Make him more Charismatic and less of a Thundering dumbass

>Just give him a personality for fucks sake.

>Have Luke show up a few times and have them bromancing it up for the inevitable Cage and Fist show

>Give him the fucking costume ( the Bruce Lee tracksuit inspired one will do just fine)

On an somewhat unrelated note, give Electra her fucking Bandana if she shows up in Daredevil season 3
>>
>>94992395
This is how an Iron Fist fight should look

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v1Cb2d0ZUVs
>>
>No more whiny angst and corporate drama.
>More mystic lore
>Two handed Iron Fists

I think the costume is a given.
>>
>>94992447
It's the fucking shaky-cam, man. It's just transparently covering up shitty fight choreography.

That video has all steady camera, wide-shots so you can see the action, and no cutting away during the hits so you can FEEL the blows. The guys can actually fight and the editing can be free to show it.
>>
>>94992537
Exactly. That first fight in The Defenders where he takes on Electra in the sewers or whatever was fucking unwatchable.
>>
>>94992447
Yep. It's fucking sad they don't give a shit about their fucking Iron Fist knowing martial arts
>>
>>94992395
Come on man Netflix doesn't have the budget to fly him over after buying the rights to all the Wu Tang songs ever made
For real there hasn't been an okay fight scene since Daredevil

Or this, play up the ridiculous kung fu magic

>>
>>94992626
The drunken master fight was the only half decent fight in Iron Fist. And it was mostly because the director of the episode was actually familiar with martial arts shows
>>
>>94992395
Jackie Chan deserves more respect not just as an action star, but as a director and editor. We still have a lot to learn from HK movies.

They should just at least fucking attempt to write him comic accurate.

This characterization doesn't fly with comic book fans because >Netflix shows >comic accurate

And not with majority of /co/ who hasn't read comics because his whole characterization is Jubilee of the team.

>>
>>94992626
They could hire "The Stunt People" then. (If you haven't heard of them look em up on Youtube or watch the movie "Contour") pretty sure they'd be cheap and would love the work
>>
Fire all the writers expect for the one that wrote Ward. If the same dude that wrote Ward wrote the rest of the show then still fire him because it was clearly a fluke.
>>
>>94992395
don't forget
>he just can use the Iron Fist whenever and doesn't need this lame ass chi charging for a single punch
and couldn't Danny normally use the Iron Fist with both hands and not just the one?
>>
>>94993087
Like, I really don't get it, the one guy who is responsible for Ward is Steve Buck. Before writers get to submit their writing for an episode they must have an idea of what kind of characters they are writing for and the one who sets it in stone is of course Steve Buck.

Iron Fist is like fucking Sonic, everyone say it has problems and then they tell self-contradictory reasons.

Ward is fucking CENTRAL FIGURE OF CORPORATE DRAMA EVERYONE BITCHES ABOUT.
>>
>>94993130
He never finished his training xD
>>
>>94992813
It was terrible, dude. Just terrible.
>>
>>94993170
well he fought and defeated the Hand now, so lets just say he can do it now from training.
>>
>>94993148
The corporate drama was awful because they did fuck all with it. The problem was more with the corporation's position in the plot, not the characters involved with the corporation. The company was basically just a McGuffin to force drama or a way to point Danny to new clues. They spent all that time building drama about who's running the corporation and how Danny is fucking things up or not caring, but they never bothered to make the corporation worth caring about in the first place besides family legacy.
>>
>>94992395
Now that Danny is taking up Matt's mantle of protecting NY from street level criminals, why the fuck are they STILL refusing to give him the mask? He's a fucking celebrity who's been in the headlines. His face was plastered all over newspapers.
>>
>>94993283
Again, Ward.

Every time Danny fucked with company it backfired on Ward. It also always fucked with him how he was running the company with baby wheels on when Harold was breathing behind his back. It's a huge part of everyone's favorite character development and most of the fucking time we see Ward either at the top of Rand building, either in his dad's hideout.

Danny cares less about profits, but he respects company as legacy they left to him and he is disgusted to see how the Hand has its clutches on this company just like it had on his family's and ultimately his fate.
>>
>>94993322
Tbh, hopefully they are not retarded and that shot was just symbolic.

I think they can easily start season 2 with semblance of a decent costume.
>>
>>94993016
Jackie choreographing would be great, but I think having him actually direct the fight scenes would help the series much more.

In interviews, he's spoken about how his films differ from other action films and even other martial arts films, and the major thing that he does differently is by keeping the camera on the actors, undisturbed, for the entirety of a blow. A ton of directors will film the start of a punch, and then cut to a different camera immediately before the punch lands to view the "after" from a different angle. It totally kills any sense of momentum and impact that punch might have had, because there's now this virtual gap in the middle of it when the guy was supposed to be punching someone in the face.

When Jackie directs, he only cuts the action when absolutely necessary (such as when he wants to direct the audience attention to something else). It's important to him that when one fighter punches another, the camera captures the whole motion seamlessly: the wind-up, the punch itself, the impact on the victim's body, and the reaction & follow-through afterwards.

This fight >>94993018 is FULL of that excessive cutting nonsense that Jackie specifically tries to avoid.
>>
>>94993381
Daredevil S1 had a lot of shots where we see punches straight up connect.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e7o_QH7NCtI
Now, why I posted this specific fight is the last moment when Matt lashes out on Turk. We see him beat him down, but how the do it, they show Charlie Cox punching air a little THEN cut to Turk getting punched and then they show us a shot from the back (a little distance to hide fakeness). It's not impressive by any means, but it's almost believable we see a person getting punched, some effort is put in.

Then we see this in Luke cage.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qiw7z1S9EXo
Sorry for absolutely terrible version with gay ass music in the background, there's no other version, but try to watch it around 1:45 and not be disgusted. It doesn't look any better even with punching sounds, in fact it looks even more laughable considering you know he's punching air.
>>
>>94993381
It's just classic Chinese camera direction, they mostly all do it that way. Sammo Hung is another excellent fight choreographer.
>>
>>94992447
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n7wvKD-7L1k
>>
>>94992395
Give him a costume, give him a better script and for the love of God give him some actual kung-fu.
>>
Yeah just hire one of the biggest stars in China to do choreography, so simple.
>>
>>94993381
Leaving out the part where he gets a month to shoot one fight scene, no one has the budget for that on a tv series.
>>
>>94996760
Doesn't he have his own stunt company? I think while he works closely alongside them, they also help to other films without him too.

Like, one fucking thing I thought Iron Fist for sure must have. It wasn't K'un-Lun, it wasn't even good plot, none of these shows have it, it was fighting. Getting Jackie Chan's crew without Jackie Chan, that would be enough to put Iron Fist on a high pedestal.
>>
>>94997292
They're probably more expensive and Marvel at this point has built an infrastructure for vfx and stunts that they are unlikely to waver from. That's how they can put out content relatively quickly.

The Russo Brothers talked about on a podcast how Marvel has basically made an assembly line for films and tv. That's how they're able to hire directors without much action experience, the support structure is already there.

We might care about fight choreography but Marvel is more interested in pumping out content efficiently.
>>
Brah just put him in a mask and have a real martial artist do all the fight scenes for him
>>
>>94997472
NO

YOU DON'T UNDERSTAND

IT WOULDN'T MAKE SENSE FOR A RICH BILLIONAIRE TO CONCEAL HIS IDENTITY ALONE AT NIGHT AS HE BEATS UP PEOPLE IN ALLEYWAYS
>>
>>94992395
>Hire Donnie Yen for fight choreography
Shaky cam is more evident of a bigger problem than fight choreography. It means those involves don't know how to fucking fight. Any competent fight scene would take hours and hours and hours of Netflix money. Something, as evident by lack of dragon and good CGI in general, that the shows don't have much of anyways.

Actually, as I said it, I realized that everyone in New York most definitely knows who the fuck Danny Rand is, so if anyone would target him, it'd be regardless of if he beats punks up or not, he is rich and famous

I-is this what they say "when you stare into abyss, it stares into you?"
>>
>>94993510
While I see your point about the Cottonmouth scene, it's not really a fight scene and it's hardly comparable given how his depiction of enacting violence is treated as being more lowkey than other Netflix MCU villains.
>>
>>94992537
imagine that last high energy series of wing chun punches being iron fist powered

how amazing would that fight be
>>
>>94997652
But see in both cases you were supposed to be disturbed, like holy shit, Cottonmouth is a scary ganglord! W-who punches air until blood splatters on his goons?

We were supposed to be similarly disturbed by Matt lashing out, he was fucking unhinged on Turk's ass.
>>
>>94992395
This, for some reason they hired IF actor way too fucking late to even remotely look acceptable while fighting, the choreography was laughable. Truth be told the dude tried his best but sadly he's the scapegoat for all IF problems.
>>
>>94997589
>I realized that everyone in New York most definitely knows who the fuck Danny Rand is
Except Luke Cage, he even had the balls to tell Danny that he's a privileged white boy
>>
>>94997829
>Billionaire with connections
>Not privileged.

Even with the whole plane shit happening to him he was still able to walk back into his billions of dollars.
>>
>>94997902
None of which he used for 15 years in K'un-Lun.

Danny Rand is poster boy for exact opposite of what Luke Cage said while defending Hand henchman.
>>
>>94997902
>he was able
It took a lot of death and fighting, he was welcomed only to be used as a scapegoat and a pawn, and he was treated as a crazy hobo for most of the season

But two can play that game
>For being a murderer LC still was able to become a hero and beloved person in NY
>>
>>94997930
>Still a billionaire
>Still has money and connections to help out with the situation.

He wasn't calling him spoiled. He was calling him stupid because he literally has connections and billions of dollars at his disposal that he wasn't using to help with.

He's still a billionaire that spent 15 years in k'un lun, that doesn't erase his privilege.
>>
>>94997967
>calling him stupid because he literally has connections and billions of dollars at his disposal that he wasn't using to help with
To be honest Danny has no fucking clue how that shit works because he spent his whole life being tortured and trained to be a punching tool
>>
>>94997999
With this taking place after he's had months to learn about this kind of shit he has no excuse. That's just bad writing in that case.
>>
>Stripped down of everything that makes him privileged
>Live whole life like a hobo
>Be humble, generous and kind and treat everybody with respect
>Once they give him money he uses it for helping people
>Still called privileged white boy
You can't win against these people
>>
>>94998029
>Dude, Peter has been spider-man for 6 months, he should be Superman level already, the fuck?

A degree in corporate management takes more than a few months, and this is taking into account you had been in middleschool and highschool, I don't think Danny is even able to do middleschool level math
>>
>>94998040
No

To be honest, Rand company is full of Hand Jews (they used fifth of billion of Rand money for Midland Circle) and tactic of beating down low tier foot soldier to get to the guy who hired them to get to the guy who hired him is not that bad of a way of intel gathering until Luke Cage fucked it all up.
>>
>>94998040
He got called privileged white boy because he doesn't realize how much power he has at his disposal at that moment and Luke was pointing that out to him because he was being retarded.

How fucking hard is that to understand?
>>
>>94998108
>A nignog assuming everything is easy but once they have the money they wasted it and end full of debts
Nothing new here, basketball Americans everybody
>>
>>94998088
Dude, nobody is talking about management. It doesn't take 6 months to learn that using money to your advantage is a thing.

Dude fucking learns that shit in the first 3 episodes of IF which is even more stupid that he had to have that pointed out to him.
>>
>>94998108
Danny doesn't even know how to run a smartphone, do you think he'd know how to run a company?
>>
>>94998173

He offered to pay rent for that fucking dojo to stay in business in exchange for her help

And you're trying to frame that Danny is literally retarded in events happening after all of that? Are you guys serious?
>>
>>94998225
Did you not watch the first season? He did use his money like that once he had access to it. He learns it within 3 episodes.

And you're telling me in defenders he automatically reverts back to being a retard? He clearly also has a basic understanding of how money works when he returns to NY in the first fucking episode.

Your argument doesn't make any sense and it's not helping your case here.
>>
>>94998108
Luke has no idea how to navigate the fortune 500 business world, because he's never had money he thinks money solves everything, something Danny was just starting to figure out was not true. but Danny agreed to do what Luke said because of white guilt and guess what? Luke was wrong. The hand gave ZERO fucks about Dannys money and connections and instead tried to capture him for their purposes.

Basically, Luke was completely narrow sighted and ignorant and gave some bad advice and it backfired, if you can't see thats the truth youre just biased to "muh systematic oppresion" popular buzzword bullshit

I repeat. Luke was wrong. Dannys "rich white privilege" didn't count for shit in the world of shaddowy criminal ninja associations" (fucking duh) and the hand almost won right then and there because his shitty advice.

deal with it, you SJW faggot
>>
>>94998286
Which is why he called him a privileged white boy and makes sense for his character.

Which makes no fucking sense to complain about because it's in character for both of them because of how the show is written.

Thanks for agreeing with me.
>>
>Danny traveling left and right looking for the Hand
>"use your money!"

>>
>>94998362
Yes, he was, but LC thought that if you have money you can snap your fingers and suddenly the world will turn whatever you want
>>
>>94998326
no, you are moving goalpost. Your words were "doesnt realize how much power he has at his disposal" and clearly Luke was wrong to think that his connections as a rich white businessman were so powerful, because the hand didnt give a shit and they almost got the iron fist like 3 episodes in because of Lukes bad advice.

You've been proven wrong. Now fuck off.
>>
Seriously, why no one has pointed how blown the fuck out Luke Cage was? He watched a woman cry as she learns her baby die as he realizes he advised to only guy who fights this power to throw himself into a lion's den.
>>
>>94993510
>Daredevil S1 had a lot of shots where we see punches straight up connect.
And also scenes where it was obvious that the actors didn't touch each others at all. It's glaring in the infamous hallway scene of s01.

And s02e01 is also full of it.
The problem is not only that punchs and kicks don't connect, it's also that the director is not good enough to hide it.

I understand this stuff is "too hard" to do on short shoots like they want to do. Also they need lots of good extras to go along with it.

They *should* have given us an excellent kung-fu show, with a lot of actual Asians and it probably would have attracted a larger audience than just a Netflix cape-show. Instead they half assed it.

I'm a pretty big MCU fan, but this was a clearly dropped ball.

Fuck this is a good clip.

>kung-fu show

>>
>>95000382
It would give a different flavor to the show to separate it from the others as well as make Iron Fist a bit less like "another Stark/Strange/Wayne/Arrow-guy" as well.

Giving Cage a more blackspoitation flavor and Iron Fist a more kung-fu flavor would also make the mix of characters in Defenders to be more interesting.

Also maybe you wouldn't need as many secondary characters if your primary ones were more interesting.

But yes, I am racist as fuck.

Because Martial arts and Kung Fu?

It takes place in New York. The martial artists in that state are more likely to be whites, blacks, Ricans and transported Brazilians.
>>
>>94992395

Even cheaper idea: Get whoever runs the fight choreography for Into the Badlands.
>>
>>95000838
I was under the impression there were a fair number of Asians in New York. Also when one is part of a secret Asian kung-fu society, there will probably be Asians coming for you no matter where you are.

On top of that, I didn't say "only Asians", there should be lots of other fighters, as represents New York, of course.

Just would have been nice to see a main character and a fair amount of supporting cast be Asian and to give it an older kung-fu feel.

We had lots of movies like these in the '90's I enjoyed.

They should introduce Orson Randall to teach him how to set his fists on fire

Why?

Danny Rand has always been fucking white. He's fighting in New York and is not allied with the hand. He's allied with a city of migrants and in an fantasy series and he's not even in contact with them.

Also while there is a lot of Asians, the Asians do martial arts stereotype has actually made it that a lot of them don't.

how to fix Iron Fist: stop being ashamed he's a white guy and stop making him incompetent in hopes of avoiding SJW's screaming about the "white savior" trope. bitching about a white guy being the best martial artist, is as retarded as bitching about Tiger Woods being good at golf

Again, it was a good chance to make him stand out from the other "rich white guys have something bad happen so turn vigilante" people.

Also, could just not make him Danny Rand.

Reveal that he hasn't unlocked the full potential of the Iron Fist and spend more money on making it look better.

Also: use Fraction/Burbaker's run as blueprint

This is unironically one of the best kung fu movies i've seen.

You know what makes him stand out from that crowd?

He's not one of those. His parents died but that's not why he became a vigilante. He's not even a fucking vigilante really half the time he's more a conscience having mercenary and more importantly the Iron Fist.

Have you actually ever read his comics? Danny isn't Batman. In the comics he's a second generation K'un L'un and explicitly put himself through the torturous training in order to get revenge.

He was still heroic but it was tagging along with Cage not his own impulses that made him a hero.

His most regarded run in recent time for fucks sake was a goddamn tournament arc between him and magical fighters.

The show to be better just had to follow the comics more.

Sense8's price was fucking retarded considering they could have shot all that shit locally instead of on location.

>Go to Korea to shoot inside scenes from offices and in a jail
>Go to Africa to shoot scenes in generic dirt roads and villages
>Go to Mexico to film in a church and a rooftop and warehouse

Literally why
>>

I know he isn't like them, just like I know the guys I mentioned are different from each other.

The issue is that normie schlubs you have to attract to these shows don't see the difference easily, it it often takes several hours of show/movie to really show them apart from each other. This is why I probably would have skipped on Danny Rand and done an Asian Iron Fist.

I'd rather not see Danny at all than see this kind of crappy version of him.

>I'd rather see Danny Rand as not Danny Rand or not see him at all
Then just ask for Shang Chi.

Clearly you aren't aware he never wanted to become a vigilante or he never had a butler and millions as he was training in mountains.

>>95001628
Yeah that is utterly retarded.

Your reasoning is that because it would take too long to make Danny Rand look different from others you just shouldn't bother?

The show is already a bastion of bad writing and you're managing to go steps beyond in the idea stage.
