The problem isn't that she's an OC, it's that she has very little character of her own.

The Hand in general were really oddly used in Defenders. Pretty much all the mysticism was taken from them other than their search for immortality.

bunch of cannon fodder ninjas with a more powerful leader who get ressurrected each time they die.

And they just go around ressurecting other people too for funsies. Elektra, Mystique, Hulk, whatever they want.

They ain't THAT interesting period. Just cool cannon fodder that you can allow the heroes to "kill" because they don't really die or their basically zombies anyway

This. Also the fact that for a leader of some super-scary and powerful organization she displays very little competence and intelligence. She's also not even slightly menacing, which makes her "threatening" dialogue sound tryhard.

It wouldn't have changed anything if they still use her the same way.

A charactter being from the comics doesn't make them good.

Dunno, maybe if she actually had a gimmick or some history behind her, she'd feel less underwritten.
I mean you got Sigourney Weaver. Why waste her on this nothing character, who's only distinguishing feature seemed to be wanting to fuck Elekra while she calls her mommy.

Good concepts are not limited to comic characters from 30 years ago. Hell, the next season of JJones is gonna have to be good without being based on a particular book like the first season was.

All this to say : original characters can be just as good, if not better. At least there's no original character to butcher, and you can create something that fits your tone and story
