weirdly happy. I feel like it's a trick
>>
So, now Diane will be a bitch cause he isn't there trying to fuck her? I hate her so much.

Btw I liked the preview.
>>
so, where do you think Bojack has gone?
>>
>>94871964
Seems cool

I can't wait for Bojack to accidentally fuck his daughter and then kill himself

I hope the bit with PB pining Diane to the wall and growling at her isn't just some sort of fake-out.
>>
>starts off with the election
Holy shit, that one cunt wasn't lying.

Dumb bitch shouldn't have gotten an abortion. It's also what's gonna cost PB the election.

She turned 40 in season 2 if I remember correctly. That's certainly starting to get up there re: a woman's fertility.

Is Bojack going to meet his mother and fuck that bitch up?

To be fair, it's the only way the show could realistically end at this point. Having him suddenly change himself for the better and spouting off self-help crap in the final episodes would be a massive cop-out.

If the show ends on a suicide, then it will be remembered as a masterpiece of animation. Any other ending would just make the show forgettable and pointless.

>>
>>94873276
Bob said before that he does have an ending in mind and it's likely going to be very dark without being something cheap like Bojack killing himself as he's been told by Netflix he can end the show on his own terms.

>>94875859
They have been teasing Mr PB does have a breaking point and is also emotionally terrified of being alone. It's why he is constantly clingy to Diane, has Todd constantly accompany him on his wacky adventures and he freaked when his brother potentially had cancer. Being alone scares him (Also He's a Golden Labrador. A breed known for needing to be social with humans and dogs or they will freak out and start destroying things). That Ol' Yeller poster in Season 3 might be a hint of things to come.

>mfw the entire season is everyone trying to track down Bojack
>mfw the entire cast experiences positive upward development in their life
>mfw Bojack's been dead for the entire time covered by the season
>mfw everyone's lives were in fact better without him

I'd be so down with this premise but it'll probably just be Bojack isolating himself and they'll be like "are you happy alone?" he'll say no and the status quo will remain god.
>>
>>94876015

Eh, I think POLITELY asking for the last box, because he had been out to sea for the past year and had a big craving, would have been a reasonable "perk". The problem was the Seal fixated on the whole dibs concept and was a jerk about it, rather than letting it go and just explaining why he wanted the box so badly.
>>
>>94877280
Lots of people constantly talk about suicide but never go through with it. An ending where he just continues to be unhappy and never stop would be fine. But yeah, happy ending is out by this point.
>>
>>94877411
his bitch of a mother is still kicking
>>
>>94877703

that's how she's able to live so long
>>
I like how the vast majority of trouble Bojack gets into is his own damn fault, he's never really thrust into zanny situations outside his control. I think the whole Mother Israel scene was a jab at that; that could have easily ended with Bojack caught in that argument way against his will, but instead he casually deflects and moves on (to self sabatoge himself in other ways).
>>
>>94877411
What if he gets sick in general? Something that is deathly in the long run, and this makes him realize all the time he has wasted, and he starts really changing for good, only to die because of that sickness in the end anyway.
>>
>>94877813
Last season was almost entirely him trying to be a decent human being and getting fucked over by the people around him. Yeah, he screwed himself a couple times, but the vast majority of his problems were caused by other people.
>>

>>
>Mia

>>
>>94873276
That's fair.
It'd be a lot more interesting if he actually figures out a way to live with himself, assuming they can make it work.

I want Venture Bros to end in the same way, with the protagonist just learning to be happy with a meager existence. No fame, no wealth, just a nice house in the suburbs or whatever. End with the idea that success is relative and sometimes, being content is enough.
>>
>>94877475

>If the show ends on a suicide, then it will be remembered as a masterpiece of animation
But it's so predictable.
"Here's this character with depression, GUESS HOW HIS TRAGIC STORY ENDS"

It'd be ten times better if they did a Gurren Lagann ending. He doesn't become a star again, but he also doesn't just kill himself. Him learning to live with himself is a much more interesting story than "he gets sad and dies".
>>
>>94875293

>>
>>94878203
It's good.
It's also very big with the grade-school nihilist crowd (same as Rick and Morty), but those people should be ignored.

Season 1 is really good, Season 2 is even better, Season 3 has some of the highest highs but also the lowest lows (quality-wise).

It's a very comfy show; it's about depression, but it's not depressing to watch. Kinda cathartic, really. I'd recommend it.
>>
>>94878203
>>>94871964 (OP)
>What's the consensus on this show?
It's starts off weak but it gets a lot better. It's biggest strength are the characters imo, especially Bojack and Diane.
>>
Wait, where's all this Trump stuff coming from?
Was there a leak or something? Because I swear to god if they latch onto that rotten hunk of low-hanging fruit that is "haha take THAT drumpf! #RESIST" then there's a good chance this season is dead in the water.

I think Trump's a retard, but it's just the same joke over and over again. I'd hate to see BH go the way of SNL and just devolve into a blunt, repetitive circlejerk.
>>
>>94878243
What in Season 3 was better than Season 2? The mostly silent episode is overrated and doesn't hold up under repeated watching, Get That Fetus Kill That Fetus was probably the comedic high point of the season and it doesn't even compare to Lets Find Out, and the 11th episode was a massive disappointment. Did anyone else notice how little BoJack fanart has came out of Season 3 compared to Season 2? It may have been better overall than the first half of Season 1, but Season 3 was a letdown compared to Season 2.
>>
>>94878280

>I'm not comfortable poking fun at rich liberals
>With Drumpf in the White House, rich liberals are the REAL victims in this day and age

Jesus Christ, enough with this pity party bullshit already.
>Trump only won because of white people and third party voters
>Not because the DNC was hilariously corrupt and didn't give a single fuck who knew it
>Not because Hillary was less charismatic than a wet carrot and about as personable as a sea urchin
>Not because they totally ignored middle America

I'm so sick of rich assholes pretending like they're the ones taking the brunt of all the bad shit going down in this country these days. I know it's cliche, but that elitist attitude combined with the "poor me" mentality is exactly what won Trump the election.

The trailer looks promising, but shit's gonna nosedive fast if they hijack the theme of this show because they're butthurt over the results of an election.

>mfw I don't think commentating on Trump in the upcoming fifth season will have a significant effect on the show's quality.

Right from the go the show was political. I have faith in the creators to handle those themes.
>>
>>94878932
>Right from the go the show was political.
Diane is somewhat of a deconstruction of your average SJW type, but other than her, the show really isn't political at all. Where are you getting this?
>>
>>94878994
>somewhat of a deconstruction of your average
Wording it this way makes me think you're defending her
>>
>>94879026
You must be overly sensitive then. The show lets Diane skate far too often to be a straight deconstruction. Back to the question, "Where are you getting this?"
>>
>>94878932
Honestly, it's the wording that makes me worry.
It'd be one thing if they said "of course we're gonna talk about Trump, how could we not", but the way he was talking about it you'd think 9/11 just happened.

The show got its kicks from mocking Hollywood, especially the notions of fame, success, and wealth that come with such an upscale, typically-liberal environment. But now that Trump won the election, they suddenly don't feel comfortable with mocking the Hollywood elite? Like they're some downtrodden minority group or something?

I'm still optimistic, I'm looking forward to the new season, but I'd be lying if I said that phrasing didn't make me a little nervous. No pun intended, but Trump jokes are basically a dead horse at this point. The only thing worse than the usual "lol he has stupid hair/he's orange/he wants to fuck his daughter" schtick is when people take it super seriously and begin weeping for the slaughtered dream of what America was supposed to be or whatever, as if we've never had an incompetent, abrasive, inexperienced moron as President before.
>>
>>94878994
This.
Always felt like the show played off of more personal/social issues than outright red and blue politics.

You've got some bits that could be considered overtly political (like the abortion episode or not Bill Cosby), but other than that it really seemed more like a character study with lots of shots taken at the expense of Hollywood executives and studio types.
>>
>>94878243
>It's also very big with the grade-school nihilist crowd (same as Rick and Morty), but those people should be ignored.

the nihilists tend not to like this show because they miss the point just as hard as with Rick & Morty, but Bojack is miserable and pathetic instead of an undefeatable supergenius like Rick.

they go "UHH BUT HE'S RICH AND FAMOUS AND HAS FRIENDS WHY ISN'T HE JUST BUYING HAPPINESS, FUCKING ENTITLED HIPSTERS" because the fact that people need self-actualization and spiritual fulfilment has yet to dawn on them.

in general Bojack is just way too old and hopeless for a lot of people to relate to the years and years of guilt, disappointment and self hatred he experiences.
>>
>>94878690

honestly, the show has been merciless in it's critique of the vapid, sheltered and arrogant Hollywood culture, if they turn into a white liberal soap opera it won't be just objectively shit as entertainment, it will also be an utter betrayal to the spirit of the show.

>>
>>94879546
>Rick is just a psychopath, he will never have relatable human feelings because he's a shit character.
Thing is, being a psychopath doesn't make him a shit character. Thing is, the show keeps trying to make us empathize with him only to turn it around in the next episode or even in the next scene where he's back to his old self.

Be Aqua Teen Hunger Force or the Simpsons, choose to have a heart or don't. Don't try both.

Yeah, you aren't supposed to wear your uniform unless you are on duty. They usually give leeway for stuff like a quick trip to the supermarket, but you are supposed to wear civilian clothes when not on duty. Wearing your dress uniform is standard for public events, or anything involving the press.

Bullshit. Last season was Bojack pretending to want to be a good person. It was all for himself to make himself feel good. All he does is fuck people over. And then his friends are supposed to forgive him because he was "sad".

BoJack has fucked many, many people in his time. Especially in the 90s when that horse girl was likely born. We know that he's knocked some women up but he always just threw money at them for abortions and just expected them to terminate their pregnancies. He acknowledged that one or more of them might've just taken the money and carried the pregnancy to term unbeknownst to him. That may or may not be what happened here.

The beginning is shite but gets better as it goes along by the end of season 1 it becomes it legitimately good show. Season 2 is a huge step up being actually funny on top of being wholesomely dramatic this is where the show hit its peak. Season 3 doesn't reach the same heights as the previous season but is still consistently good but I feel like its time for them to wrap up or else its going to start getting stale with Bojack repeatedly getting himself into shit and then resetting himself to make the same mistakes again there's definitely needs to be an end point to all this whether happy or sad.

First one is technically not Bojack's fault, but his guilt shown afterwards means he knew he shouldn't have slept with the girl Todd was interested in reconnecting with. Second one was on him for agreeing to even start hardcore drug/alcohol binging to the point where he blacked out so much that he couldn't stop himself until an extreme consequence occured.
Third, I'll agree that is was ok he fired her, given the circumstances of all the backdoor hollywoo agent backstabbing being played out and what he wasn't aware of.

This.
It's fine when a show like Bojack or Simpsons is upfront with its political leanings, just so long as it's funny and/or nuanced.

That's why American Dad is so great but Family Guy is shit. One show has an episode that mocks George Bush and then turns him into the hero of the story, the other had an episode where the moral was "it doesn't matter if religion helps you find meaning in life, because religion is stupid".

On one side you have it showing how ridiculous pro-life gets, and on the other it shows the liberals that think abortion is a casual thing to the point of making a funny song and dance. But ultimately, that's the message of it, abortion shouldn't be treated as some horrible, or even tragic thing. If you're not ready, just terminate it. That's also a good point, I hadn't considered that aspect of how the person in question goes through. That, and the whole thing about how media is "liberal", but tends to lean conservative on sensitive topics, which may or may not influence anyone watching.

>>
>>94880933

That's not even the issue.

The baby doesn't materialize the second it exits the vagina, we just can't scientifically prove at what point in development a baby is actually a baby and we will likely never will. Every point you could choose is arbitrary, there isn't a special, precise date in the pregnancy in which every unborn fetus suddenly begins having enough brain activity to count as a person. We cannot make concrete laws on such relative things. In cases of rape or non-viable fetuses or just no chance of survival an abortion is the most sensible thing to do but it shouldn't be spoken off lightly and treated as a fucking bi-product or waste.

Honestly making it about the womans' body always came out as the most selfish and hedonistic thing in the world. It's never been about the woman.

Second, it's a fact that after a certain amount of months most fetus's can survive. Evidence showing that can't just be tossed aside and called subjective. The writers keep it interesting, they don't play out the same scenario's twice. The result is always the same when people cut him out of their lives, but the context is always different. Last season showed him giving that girl a panic attack, despite the fact that the drugs were making him lose enough control to prevent himself from getting near to her. That was my line in the sand, James has literally never done anything to anybody and now you've got these entitled cunts trying to make him out to be some sort of monster. All over a fucking shitty remake of Ghostbusters.

That was officially where my opinion on the movie went from "I hope it's good, but it doesn't look like my kinda thing" to "fuck this movie, I hope it crashes and burns like nothing we've ever seen before".

Ah yes, "feminist allies" are quite rich, more recently Joss Whedon being a good example of what happens when people get so self-righteous that they don't care who they shit on or why. Even richer when they fuck up and make excuse after excuse that sideline themselves rather than fully admitting their mistakes.

Everyone looked at the premise of the movie and forgot about the genre it's placed in: Comedy. Plot only goes so far, it could've been ok, it could've kept the boring plot and had good jokes to make people look past that. That's what Men in Black 3 did, it's plot wasn't really enthralling but it was funny enough to merit my respect. But no, they refused to let anything help the movie carry itself, I even heard the director heavily relied on improv rather than written and proven jokes.

That's exactly what he did. He spouted all this bullshit about how "oh, I didn't wanna do a sequel, I wanted to start from scratch and really make it my own" when what he meant is "I literally wanna just do the first movie over because screenwriting is hard. Also no real jokes, just improv; cause again, writing is hard."

Paul Fieg is a hack and an asshole and I'm glad this turd sank his career considering the movie could have been at least tolerable with a different director and writer behind it.
>>
>>94882475
Nah, before watching the show I saw some discussion regarding season 2 about how people were "so happy that they got together at the end of the second season", but they ignore an obvious fact. They're barely together anymore, and that was just a temporary fix, they didn't even consider all the disagreements and how her feminist outlook doesn't quite meld with Mr. Peanutbutter's personal politics. The fact that he wasn't always there for her when she needed him, or vice versa, it's all going to be a gloriously devastating breakup.

>Original Ghostbusters was about schlubs starting their own business, new Ghostbusters is a wannabe superhero movie

That's honestly where the movie failed, giving themselves diversity points and ignoring that tokenism isn't the same as showing an actually diverse and fully capable cast ("Diversity" in the sense there's one black person, almost never an asian, latino, middle-eastern, or otherwise). Playing the women as wacky goofballs is more disrespectful really, and the overall quality of it only fuels naysayers in future projects featuring a lead female cast.

Are you suggesting Bojack/PB should be canon? And Diane shouldn't completely ruin herself, she should look at herself and say "I'm turning into him..". I don't know about her doing that. I fully expect someone to commit suicide by someone else's hand, better than just the now predictable generic "fuck you, we're not friends anymore" speeches. Someone should be as a reminder to them, once the depression escalates they can say "Out of all the failed dreams in hollywoo, somehow I fucked up the worst", then they jump. (I'm not the best at writing depression, but something like this hopefully)

538 gave Trump a pretty good shot at winning, 30% iirc. Other polling sites, NOT the sites just reporting on the polls, gave him anywhere from 15-25%. The polls weren't off by some incredible number (only a point or two depending on location), and they didn't need to be for Trump to win.

The idiots that were reporting "Trump has a 1% chance of winning!!1" eg Huff Post made an incredibly stupid error interpreting the polls. They treated each separate state as a separate coin flip, but if a poll in one state is off by a point, it's pretty likely that it's also off by the same point in similar states.

You can see the history there. 30% was the final estimation, but only RIGHT before the election. 538 had him at 10-15% for the months leading up to the election. That last minute bump is probably the result of scummy polls skewing the numbers less than usual, so they didn't completely lose credibility for the following election.

>racism is not exclusively found in white people

The key thing that everyone misses is that racism, i.e. institutional racism, can only come from a majority race. In the West, that majority race tends to be white people. If you went to North Korea or Zimbabwe, the same idea would hold true, but the institutional racism would stem from Koreans or natives from Zimbabwe, neither of whom are white.

One has to consider that when Americans talk about racial issues, they're talking about racial issues in America. Bringing up that institutional racism also exists in places like India or Japan isn't really relevant to the conversation if you're discussing racism and its affects on American citizens. What is relevant in conversations like these is specificity; white people, just like most other races, aren't found in just America, so when you're talking about Americans, you should say so.

Yeah I'd have to say Downer Ending is my favorite over all episode as well. It set the stage for episode 11 being the saddest most gut wrenching episodes of the season. She could've had an epic rant about how he used her like so many others, then collapse from the drugs, and be declared dead once rushed to a hospital. That would've hit me harder, her finally snapping to the level of wanting change, only to have it ripped away just like that.
>>
>>94885608
Also MrPB causes almost as much chaos and harm with his happy-go-luckiness as Bojack does with his self-destruction and malevolence. He just gets away with it because he's nicer.

>>
>>94887263
But that wasn't Sarah Lynn; Sarah Lynn wouldn't do that.
>>
>>94887263
I think that's what they wanted to avoid with Sarah Lynn, this one person who can put up with Bojack and likes him (maybe for the wrong reasons) just ends up dying because Bojack kills. It's sad, I don't know, it didn't hit me like that. I suppose it's personal, Bojack being lethal, poisoning everything even remotely good, that lined up. But it ends more often like Escape from LA and Downer Ending, as opposed to That's too Much Man! If that makes any sense.
>>
>>94887327
Yes, I know she never was the type to yell at someone unless she thought they were annoying, but I really did want her to change. I suppose that's what depresses me, she's the one the audience is more sympathetic with, so when she says "I want to be an architect", spills out her dream as her dying words, you hope and dream she can be. But she isn't and never will be, and that's what breaks my heart so much.
>>
>>94873276
I always figured that the show is going to end with some documentary about Bojack or another character taking places years into the future that reveals what happens to the characters, with the revelation that Bojack has completely disappeared from the public eye and is wasting away in some shithole apartment far from Hollywoo under a fake name or something.

Institutional racism is a concept that's still heavily reliant on rich Vs poor way of things. Looking at it as its own standalone practice is ignorant and the only reason it's brought up is because race baiting professors like to throw the word around to sell more lectures and books.

But let's keep discussing a depressed horse show instead of bitching.

Venezuela's money is literally worth less than imaginary WoW gold. There's no food in their supermarkets and the current regime is running on the platform of "join my party and you'll get dibs on meals while our political opponents go hungry".

That is what socialism is, at its core. It's a nice concept, but it's literally never ever worked and it literally never ever will.

If you think Socialism is a viable form of government in this day and age, then you either have no idea what you're talking about or you're willfully ignoring the mountains of evidence stating that it's a fucking awful idea.
>>
>>94885291
>Two of those statements aren't true
1. You have to have gender dysphoria to be trans. If your end-game isn't to transition, you aren't trans. You can call yourself trans, but you aren't. There are only two genders; men can like traditionally feminine things and women can like traditionally masculine things without being queer or trans or genderfluid. It's called having preferences and literally everyone has them, they don't make you special and there's no need to invent an imaginary gender to get that point across.

2. Anyone can be racist, the idea that "racism = privilege + power" was created to push a socio-political narrative of forced dependence (ie. you are incapable of doing anything deplorable, but you're also incapable of succeeding unless you put me and my friends into power).

3. Socialism has not and never will work. By all means, take a trip to Miami and ask a refugee from Cuba or Venezuela how they liked living under those kinds of policies.

These are facts.
>>
>>94885608

Bojack knows its a preachy show that is a hypocritical to most of its own morals,
R&M likes to play itself as a funny scifi romp for normies with "deep" subtext that usually just amounts to rick being an asshole and morty saying nothing actually matters.
>>
>>94889880
i started watching rick and morty because of the /co/ threads talking about how great it was, every thread was about how funny that show was, thats not being paranoid

its just how i played and enjoyed undertale because /v/ had a hardon with that game, and once tumblr people started talking about that game, it became pure shit

4chan is full of contrarians who want to have a secret club with secret comics, movies and games, and once they are not secret they throw a fit against those same things they loved

>>94889991
>>94889948
Or the simplest explanation of it all: it used to be good, now it's not so good, and people are bothered by this.

It's South Park, the Simpsons, and every other show which eventually betrays its formula due to the inability of the creators from keeping it going stale, so they pander to survive.
>>
>>94890003
that would explain talking shit about the last seasons, /co/ talks shit about the whole show

its like saying that the simpsons is garbage and only retards like them instead of saying that the simposns died a lot of seasons ago

i think the simplest explanation is that 4chan is full of insecure people who wants to belong and just repeat whatever someone who sounds secure about his opinions says

I like both shows and Bojack and Rick as characters quite a lot but I can tell that BH is much better written. This goes both for the character as well as the whole show. It's quite cohesive and you can tell that the writers put a little effort into it while R&M is sometimes all over the place and is not as good as it could be.
BH is also less popular and the fans are not as annoying.

Bojack doesn't get that sense of closure. It's been established he doesn't deserve that. That's the whole point of Herb. He's fucked up everything and nothing can change that. At best he can fix himself but no one will ever thank him for it. He wants to do better but he wants people to love it for him. He can't have his cake and eat it too. He can either improve or continue to fruitlessly vie for redemption and attention. There's no middle path.

Bojack is unhappy because he thinks he won't be himself unless he's unhappy.

R&M drive it through your skull every episode without an ounce of subtlety. The creators also think this works as "deep" and "depressing" when the characters are comedic caricatures any other time.

On the other hand, Bojack's characters are treated much more human. The nihilism isn't as much explicitly stated as it is shown through Bojack's actions. It's a coping mechanism for his past and current mistakes and helps justify his gluttonous hedonism. The most on the head moment is in the planetarium where Bojack says that in the grand scheme of the universe none of our actions will be remembered and therefore we shouldn't care what happens either way. This is immediately invalidated when his faux daughter overdoses and sends him into a near suicidal depression.
