I'm inclined to agree, OP. The first time I watched Princess and the Frog, I was quite disappointed with the songs, even Friends on the Other Side. But on each successive viewing I've come to appreciate Randy Newman's soundtrack more and more.

The songs were not the problem.

The movie fell apart when Facilier's plans hinged on a fat retard and the movie dragged once they became frogs. Facilier was a wasted villain and his plans should have been a lot bigger and better crafted.

I'm growing tired of all the vague criticisms /co/ dumps on Princess and the Frog, and this is by far the worst. The movie charts the protagonists on a clear, relatively straightforward path from New Orleans to Mama Odie's, then back again. I really can't see how the pacing could have been any better without making the film seem rushed.

Dig a Little Deeper is my favorite Disney song of them all, Facilier is up there among Disney's best villains, and Ray, Louis, and Mama Odie are fun, memorable supporting characters. Even Naveen at least stands out among most Disney princes who are usually just cardboard.

The probblem with the movie was Tiana was bitchy. Perhaps rightfully so, but bitchy nonetheless.
