/co/ help me out, I really want to learn 2D animation but I don't know a reliable school. I accidentally almost did a 3D program because I thought it was 2D. Any comrades have experience with this?
Start with the Animator's Survival Kit and work up from there.

Can I really just self study?

It seems to be your best bet. I recall reading an article about this old animator who would go to universities and be disappointed in the fact that the old art of animation (with the level of detail you'd see in Disney's Snow White or Alice in Wonderland, for instance) was dying off. All he seemed to find was either students going into 3D animation or those weird artsy bullshit you'd likely find in a contemporary art museum. It's sad because people used to be able tot do animation with nothing but a pencil and paper.
I cannot find that article for the life of me, but maybe someone else in /co/ has it.

I read that actually it was sad and I related to it well. I did a course on 3D animation in highschool and it's absolutely horrid. I hate it. It's tedious and unless you know everything about the program and are good at math, you will only create garbage at best.
>never did animation more than a 3 second test with everyday paper
>really want to become an animator
>too lazy to actually do a 2 min short
