Part of me thinks it would have worked better if Dipper had accepted Ford's offer to become his apprentice.

It really was a dream opportunity and Dipper ended up turning it down for a really stupid reason. But more pertinently it would address the big problem with the show in that the token sacrifices that Mabel would make for Dipper end up being really empty.

I don't dislike Roadside Attraction, but I do think it should have been in the first half of season 2 (or even during season 1) rather than toward the end of season 2. Given the surrounding episodes, there is just no reason to justify the kids leaving the sanctuary of the Mystery Shack for a road trip.

Taken completely out of context, it's a pretty run-of-the-mill episode... the reason this episode was a lot worse was because it absolutely KILLED the pacing and emotional through-line of the finale.

After all the emotional conflict between Mabel and Dipper in 'Dipper and Mabel vs The Future' and the build-up to the dream prison we really needed a Gravity Falls equivalent of 'For The Man Who Has Everything', with Mabel getting to live out her perfect endless summer with Dipper and her friends, and ultimately choosing to give up her dreamworld and accept growing up and her and Dipper resolving their conflict and fears.

Instead we got Mabel in Wackyland shoved into the middle of the finale event and it was shit.

The spiderwoman wasn't a good monster of the week at all, there was no mystery, and even after acknowledging that she literally eats men alive, they just leave her be.
Mabel forgot her lessons about not fucking with others' relationships, Dipper forgot the advice he and Mabel gave Soos, and in a kids show about mystery we got an allegory about pickup artists. It was hot garbage.

This one is only bad when caring about how little Mabel ever has to apologize for, and even then it addressed it a little bit, just not as much as you spergingly want.

Roadside Attractioin stands alone as presenting problems within it's own episode and having terrible resolution to all of them, being just terrible as a whole when thought about in continuity, and most important just not funny at any point. This episode had some good moments even if it had mabel being a bitch. Roadside Attraction had nothing holding it up. Every character acted stupid and uncharacteristically hatable.

The whole issue makes little sense really.

Both the characters had been happy doing stuff together and apart, sure change is hard but it happens and they have both been through hardships before. Dipper staying there wouldn't mean he would be alone, there is a whole town with a school it isn't like he would be isolated with Ford. The whole situation up to this point Dipper had only been happy with, Mabel only really seemed to get upset when she thought high school relationships might be hard but that is also her element.

It comes across as a very contrived last moment reason to create drama for the finale.
