Why are western cartoon theme songs always just refrains of the title and sometimes descriptions of the characters?
that's not always true anon sometimes it's an actual song

Because they're literally adverts for the bands.
why don't we have minute and a half of openings and endings in western shit?
with similar run times you'd think they would take advange of having to animate less per ep, being able to get twice as many eps with a but of stretch and better animation quality for the same price with the time they saved.

What about openings sang by the cast?

Damn, I 100% forgot that show existed until now.
The Ed, Edd n Eddy theme was pretty much just instrumental. Same for Gravity Falls and Rick & Morty

Because ever sense Adventure Time started this horrible trend of action cartoons being split into 11 minute segments, there's literally no time for anything else.

>Adventure Time
>action cartoon
Because that's the ideal form of an intro song. Anime intros used to be the same, before they got hijacked by the jpop industry and lost their way.
In all honesty I think something like Adventure Time's theme is the perfect way to have a theme song.
Catchy tune, tells you the barest information about the show so a new viewer isn't totally lost, shows off some/most of the characters and settings, it works really well.

It's just karaoke for the actual band.

because openings are an outdated concept
it made sense back in the day when you had to watch shows on the tv's terms, the intro gave you time to get ready to watch the show
there's a reason netflix automatically skips them
