Is it me or did the early seasons of South Park have a unique charm to them that the later seasons don't have? I don't know how to explain it because it could just be nostalgia, but the show felt completely different back then, like the humor was way more intentionally surreal.
The art was way shittier and the humor came from more absurd oddball stuff than whatever the current hot political topic is.
Sometimes, anyway.
Trey and Matt were taking LSD back then
I wonder how different the show would be now if Mary Kay Bergman didn't kill herself. To my understanding, she was basically THE female voice on the show for the first couple of seasons.
It was back when they didn't do stupid trilogies or saga's and just focused on a single topic and rolled with it.
Let's hope they go back to that

I'm amazed this is still a thing.

This
the early seasons were like a really raunchy kids cartoon while the later and current stuff is an adult comedy cartoon
i like both, but the earlier stuff was more charming
'member South Park? before 9-11?

Two things I can say right off the back.
The art style at the time was more crood, adults and animals were more simplified makeing the collab with realistic stuff like Sadam or Mel Gibson favs this fun rawnchy style.
The humor back on the first five seasons relied on quirky and visual gag humour. The best example of this is Rainforest Skmainforest, it was packed full of details that make characters feel unique and make multiple viewings worth while. I partly thank this to one of the writers who would go on to create Making Fiends, a show built around gag and character humour.

>really raunchy kids cartoon
I think this is a good comparison. They would do whole episodes based around things kids do like fireworks or having to do a school recorder concert. It was like R-rated Doug or Hey Arnold or something at times.

Yes, you're the only fucking person on Earth to pick up on the dramatic stylistic shift the series has experienced in its ten fucking years on air. You're an idiot.
You could probably watch entire seasons up to the movie, then watch the movie, then only watch the episodes that focus on Kenny or Randy.

There's nothing wrong with seasons 4 to 9. Then you can be selective about what episode to watch or not.
