I was big into the comics when I was a kid so I absolutely screamingly hated the show when it was first made. The comic relief goblin guy especially annoyed the fuck out of me. I could never even bring myself to watch more than the first few episodes I saw.

I should probably get around to actually watching the second season since I hear it was taken over by another team and got genuinely good.

Definitely give season 2 a shot. I thought season 1 was meh and stopped watching after a few episodes of season 2, but I picked it up again a few months later, and I'm so glad I did.

I enjoyed this show because it felt like the "Magical girl" equivalent of Pumaman (watch MST3k) because at the start the girls were intentionally/unintentionally a little doofy and had a competent jacket-wearing sidekick who bailed them out of trouble. The episode where they accidentally beat the shit out of their school teacher (due to an assumption he was the snake monster guy) left me laughing but past a certain point I just enjoyed the show for the sake of itself rather than chain them to this association.

I think it sucked royal though Will didn't have any actual energy powers until the 2nd season, but overall I thought it was a solid B+ show with moments that exceeded that level.


...I still want to know WTF the fire girl is the only one who's hairstyle changes post transforming. That never made any damn sense.
