What villains from other media would make for good capevillains? Pic related.
Loki from Thor
Saul would make for a fantastic Batman villain where his whole shtick is basically dealing less with clear cut crimes or insane actions to kill the bat, but rather being the "every minion" that manages to cut deals with other supervillains and preventing them from being charged for said crimes.
Not only would this (marginally) help explain basic stuff like why do these villains keep going to Arkham rather then arrested or flat-out death sentence, but his character could also put some interesting light on what basic day to day mooks go through. It'd kind of be like those idea's in those Mariam threads. Antics could include Saul making his own "Criminal Union" which he helps enlists criminals depending on their skills to other supervillains and try to cut basic deals with them and their bosses.
>Commands an army of minions
>Very powerful magic user
>Cosmic levels of invulnerability, but still susceptible to being beaten unconscious
>Goofy enough for witty banter
I writes itself.

Forgot the pic, but I guess most people already have seen Breaking Bad to get what I'm saying.

Gus would be a really good Batman villain too. He could be just as manipulative and cunning as Bruce himself is and completely fuck with the guy with his knowledge on the criminal underworld on top of all of his minions being ex-special forces and shit.
I don't know if they would fit into DC or Marvel, but if the X Parasites were unleashed on either universe, they'd probably be fucked.

To clarify, I meant either the DC or Marvel universe would be fucked if the X Parasites were unleashed on them.

Fucking this. I've desperately wanted to see a genuine series about this for years. Ever since The Broker (a "villain" real estate agent) was introduced in Gotham City Sirens. Bat villains need a massive infrastructure to keep them going, and the stories you can get from that would be amazing.
Considering Infamous 1 and 2 were all about that comic book aesthetic, anyone would work in an actual comic, but for capevillains, gotta go with Kessler.
easy
Literally either of these in a high stakes political thriller with Captain America would be fucking amazing.

I'd like to image a rendition of Edmund Blackadder as an immortal being who acts as the advisor/second in command to many high profile supervillains.
And while he is a coward and useless in fight, heroes have to constantly try and prevent him from being killed, because everytime he does, a new Blackadder simply replaces him, and he's always smarter than the last one, and thus constantly makes the villains more effective as a result (although Baldrick is there and he keeps getting stupider too).

God he would make a great bat-villain imo. I think the only issue would be that once he's uncovered he'd lose a lot of what makes him so great in his show. Some of my favorite parts of that series is all the time he spent doing his thing without anybody knowing who he was.

The Diamonds would make great comic book villains. They have massively superhuman powers and a massive high-tech galactic empire, so they could have a big impact in major cosmic crossover events, but they try to ignore Earth as much as possible except when they want something, so you won't have that dissonance where you wonder why they aren't using all their awesome powers and resources in stories that don't require them. Plus, they've got whole armies of mass-produced minions with nearly identical names and powers, so you could have essentially the same characters challenge the heroes over and over in a variety of different stories, without having to contrive explanations for why they keep breaking out of prison/coming back from the dead/finding new heirs to their legacy/turning evil after redeeming themselves for the umpteenth time.

I'm not sure who she should be a villain for. I do think it would work best with someone much weaker than her so they can't just fight it out.

I think most people fail to realize how villainous Big Boss really was.
He threatened the world with nuclear weapons, kidnapped people and stole the only solution for the looming energy crisis for himself, helped keep wars going without regard for all the damage they do just so soldiers would be in demand, and took in war orphans only to turn them into soldiers for more wars, repeating the cycle. The war economy world of MGS4 is exactly the world Big Boss was trying to create, and that in the end it was created by the Patriots is pretty telling of how deep he had sunk.

This is the most retarded point to make in politics- simply trying to get a nuke and a reliable delivery system is considered to be "threatening". Meanwhile, all current nuclear powers have the same weapon and aren't considered to be threatening. Guess why? Because they already HAVE the nuke and the reliable delivery system, so nobody can fuck with them overdue without risking their neck. It is basically the national equivalent of telling someone that he's compensating for having a small penis when he tries to buy a gun to concealed carry. No, it's not; the person is just trying to protect themselves with the only weapon that has effective deterrence nowadays. Just with extra hypocrisy because the person saying that has 50000 guns stockpiled.

As someone who writes stuff for money, I've got to tell you it's entirely doable. However you've got to actually think about it and test it rigorously. You cannot get away with doing half assed bullshit if you're bringing politics in, and you have to cut to the heart of the issues involved and not just regurgitate the political rhetoric of both sides. Every side and stance has to be portrayed sympathetically or at least in a way where the reader can understand a person's motivations - especially if you don't agree with them. This is beyond most people and most writers.
90% of everything is crap. Nine out of ten of the tries you make stories in this arena it will go badly, so it's not going to be worth it most of the time. You have to willingly write stuff, then actively discard anything that falls short of the mark. People trying to work to live and work to eat just have a hard time doing that. You have to be financially secure to even try it, and you've got to have a job that you control yourself and that cannot simply be taken away if - no, when you offend people who will try to make you lose your job.
Writing stories that bring politics in is dangerous, difficult, and likely to go wrong. Any writer doing so is essentially doing dangerous charity because there's every chance it could cost you your job or life.
I too hope to see a few well written new political stories in my life. In comics or in anything else.
The whole "your former master is evil" schtick is fuckin dope
He could be an Iron Fist or Daredevil villain I guess
>>94645295
Oh, addendum to that. Comics are ten times harder than novels in this regard because you as the writer basically have to condense everything heavily while still being fair to all sides and making an entertaining story to read. You also have to deal with the fact that art costs a shitton and you almost never actually have control over a comic being made. In order to do this in a comic you basically have to be someone like Neil Gaiman. Anyone else is gonna fail.
Not a villain, but the likes of Blade and Elsa Bloodstone would be endless sources of amusement for him.

>"Attack? No, not attack them. Wipe the slate clean. Make the Mojave like it was meant to be...undisturbed by man. I'll send the Cloud, the Holograms. Bring ruin in my hands until only I stand atop the HELIOS One tower again. I'll scour Hoover Dam with the Cloud, rain its walls with spears from the sun...with an army of Old World ghosts behind me, Holograms all. I'll kill them until it's only me, me alone...in a quiet world. In a world that's nothing like what happened at HELIOS One."
>>94645499
Transmetropolitan does it, I'm afraid I haven't read the other. I'd actually say Lucifer manages to pull it off in its own way indirectly as well. Good historical comics can also cover it very well, since the issues characters face are dead prototypes of what we have today.
The best political stories IMO aren't political stories per se, but stories that happen to reflect on politics. The core of every story is conflict. The end of every story is either the characters getting what they want or not getting what they want in one form or another. Every story is therefore a conflict-resolution manual for our life; the play form of wisdom. Either you see people succeeding in their goals or screwing themselves over through their flaws. Either way you learn from it and that brings satisfaction to the reader. Well written, believable resolutions can be applied to real life to some degree.
Take any political issue. Make it a metaphor and have the comic address the metaphor. If it's well written then you can shine a light on the real issue. The trick is that writing isn't writing, it's re-writing. You've got to look at the resolution over and over and over and over again so that it comes out with clarity and doesn't simply come down as a biased diatribe against politics you don't like. In order to make it interesting to read instead of boring as fuck you've also got to connect this issue to real, basic human emotions people would realistically feel in the situations you're writing about.

For instance we'll take North Korea. You might be sick of hearing about it but it does have some relevance here. You've got an undeniably evil country, another country that's somewhat morally grey but at least acting on good intention for the people there, but also acting in its own self interest to increase influence and power in the Asian region. It helps to use fictional nations instead and a similar situation in order to give a degree of separation from the actual conflict. This makes things a little easier to stomach.
Intervention will probably lead to millions of deaths. Nukes will get set off. The people of the region may be taken care of or horribly exploited afterward. As a writer you should explore these various points of view. Self interested politicians, actually good people that exist on both sides and suffer from the conflict, the things fear that motivates the leader of the evil nation and the fear that motivates their opponents.
There's only a few ways for it to resolve. The shining, unrealistic path is that it isn't much of a war at all, the America stand-in crushes them and actually takes care of the people afterward although it's hard. Little life is lost and it's all the bad guys.
The grimderp version is that all sides are evil, the war is horribly brutal and millions die, the aftermath of the war is a long story of exploitation of the innocents involved in the conflict and deadly chaos afterward. Imagine North Korea successfully nuking the US, the US successfully nuking North Korea and then essentially enslaving the survivors, screwing their allies and laughing about it.
cotd.
>>94645815
To write a conflict like this well you have to portray the motivations of everyone involved, you have to make them sympathetic or understandable even if someone is totally unsympathetic and you have to have the ending be believable. There are greedy profit driven people. There are fearful men that will do anything to hold onto power. There are victims that just want to survive and there are monsters that take advantage of chaos to hurt others. There are also legitimately good people, some of which accidentally do great harm in the pursuit of good, others which are actually smart and good. Realistically everyone will have an impact on the resolution of the story and no one person will truly dominate the aftermath.
Now imagine you have to tell a story like that well in 50 words or less per page, with artists and editors you can't control. Personally I like to use humor and absurd exaggeration to take the sting out of political commentary, but that's a matter of style and choice and it's up to the writer to do it. What works at times can be catastrophic in other times. To put it simply writing good political commentary in a comic, (especially on contemporary issues) is very nearly fucking impossible. We'll see several in our lifetime, but never assume it's something easy to do.

He'd be an especially good Marvel villain, what with the mutant thing, but he's generally the natural enemy of a superhero setting. He despises everything that makes them special. Plus he's basically Conan+Apocalypse+Doctor Doom.
>>94646278
Yes I agree he would be a good character, but this is a /villain/ thread.
The Parasyte storyline would be a pretty good event.
Probably DC since Marvel already has Skrulls and stuff.
>>94642142
Mike getting killed by Walt was pretty much the only time he slipped, and that's because Walt is unpredictable. Frank isn't. Mike could see him coming from miles away.
>>94646416
Frank could take Mike.
But Balalaika and Hotel Moscow would give him real trouble.
Hell, I'm pretty sure if he went to Roanapur, he wouldn't come back in one piece.
>>94642964
You realize that half of everyone in this thread has done that despite not being phoneposters, right? Stop acting like such an angry loser about inconsequential shit and use reverse image search.
>>94646465
Yeah in a one on one fight, Mike uses stealth more than he goes in guns blazing. And Revy would gun Frank down before he could even fire a shot.
>>94646124
She loses to army conscripts in their first month after boot camp, because anybody who doesn't talk to her and just shoots to kill is home free.
>>94646580
I think in a pure gun fight it could go either way.
Frank could outmaneuver her and kill her probably, since Revy isn't much for tactics.
But Revy following a plan by Rock would likely be able to kill Frank, given their track record.
>>94646650
Same goes for most Batman villains, but they're all still around.

Just imagine.
Not really sure who to put against him though...
>>94642881
I think that's exactly why him vs. Cap would be phenomenal.
The bants would be off the chain during their fight.
>>94645877

>>94645050
Kojima obviously went back on this after the fact, given that global nuclear annihilation is still a very real threat and treated as such as a main topic during MGS1, MGS2 and MGS3.

>Mr World from American Gods

>>94646752
Some kind of villain for a street level Spectre story?
>>94646733
Her excuse is that she works low key and wouldn't get in a situation where she'd be shot at by army conscripts.
Megane is a guile villain, a manipulator, who tries to exploit people's weaknesses or take them by surprise before they realize what she's capable of. She didn't even engage in combat unless she absolutely had to.
That's why pairing her with John Constantine makes sense. He's much the same.

This is some solid advice. I wish there'd be more posters like you in all the political comic threads we've been having. Is there anyway you can point us to some stuff you've written without risking you anonymity? Do you have any other good "political" comics to recommend besides Transmet and Lucifer?
Also, if you get the chance, read JM Dematteis and Mark Gruenwald's runs on Captain America. While I'm throwing out recommendations, Larry Hama's G.I. Joe and Ostrander's Suicide Squad also did a good job of tackling political issues without being heavy handed about it.
(Also Ostrander's Specter handled religious issues in a superhero universe excellently. Unfortunately, it's also presents some good examples of how to be way to heavy handed with political issues despite some fantastic imagery.)

Eddie went to Neibolt and got chased by the leper.

>he's basically Conan+Apocalypse+Doctor Doom.
Emphasis on Apocalypse. I think they'd really step on each other's toes, thematically.
That said, he doesn't feel like a DC villain either: too powerful for almost any hero to solo, but not powerful enough to be a credible threat to a major hero team like the JLA or JSA.
>>94647450
It doesn't actually hurt me to hint to you who I am most popular as. I make adult video games right now, mostly because the market for SFW games is overcrowded and because the new market allows me a lot of opportunity to tell stories that people are compelled to play because of the lewd content. My first game was actually a theological essay on the seven virtues nobody read. I turned it into a porn game and ended up with tens of thousands of players.
I've also done SFW stuff by never had a breakthrough like I did in the NSFW realm. In the modern world skill and insightful thought are worth less than just being willing to whatever crazy shit works.

Even with all the cosmic powers and alien badasses in DC.
I bet you this guy would really scare the Justice League.
>>94647327
It's hard to assess her power-level, since they never really give a clear indication of her limits.
But my guess is that the denial she can use to manipulate reality has to be somewhat specific and the victim has to be somewhat passionate about it.
Also, I'm not fully caught up with the show but so far she's usually only done things that affect other people, not herself.
The only exception being when she stole Yuya's Stand and you could argue that that was still something that happened to him.
In a way she's both overpowered and underpowered at the same time, since she can't harm you directly if you shut the fuck up.
>>94647638
Eh, Apocalypse wants to turn everyone into mutants. Emps would REEEEE hard at mutants.

I'm playing the free trial this weekend and I love it - except that the servers don't hold up. It takes forever to get into a game and the server inevitably crashes by the second match no matter what.
I started the single player campaign, but since it opened with what felt like a near repeat of the tutorial I had just played through I put it aside and haven't really gotten to it yet. Appollian seems like an interesting villain tho - not to mention a female character who doesn't seem to be there just for diversity's sake.
>>94647655
Ok, why don't you just decloak and plug your game? I don't usually play NSFW games but you've made me intensely curious, and you'll be anonymous again by the next thread. Here I was hoping you'd be a comic book writer. You're the second person on /co/ this week who had solid ideas and was a professional, but turned out not to be working in comics.

Hey, I can make comics and some of my team actively do work on comics. In fact my plan is to make one more fully NSFW game and then start transitioning into Huniepop style SFW-with-nudity patch games.
Mostly I'm not plugging myself because this is a blue board and because I'm here to casually shitpost, not make money or talk myself up.
My plan when I do hit SFW games is essentially to start with a superhero tactics game. Think XCOM meets My Hero Academia, with dating sim elements. I just need to finish my current visual novel game this year and then make a sequel to my first game where you invade heaven and I get to be a theology nerd while also making porn again. I want to make the combat in my next lewd RPG tactics style so I can practice and get the ideas down before launching a SFW superhero game.

You should really watch the show yourself, but here's the short version. He grants girls a wish in exchange for them becoming magical girls, who must then fight witches in order to keep their souls pure. However this only delays the inevitable, and when their souls become fully impure they become witches themselves. His goal is not actually to eradicate witches, but to maintain a cycle of their creation because his species can harvest energy from them.

Same day different bullshit. Soldiers don't get hit or not hit based on how good they are. I should know, I was one. Sometimes, someone just drops two thousand pounds worth of ordnance on top of your head and then you're fucked. An "ULTIMATE" soldier would just be very fit and know tactics very well, perhaps be rather attentive at all times. But no matter how good a soldier you are, you still lose against a well-camouflaged MG nest, a landmine, artillery or an airstrike.
The writers for Danganronpa, while very creative, aren't very good at logic. Which is very obvious in their subject matter, being Sherlock Holmesian mystery murders. Ever since Raymond Chandler dropped the mike with his essay The Simple Art of Murder, SHerlock Holmesian mysteries are dead, and anyone still writing them is harkening back to a more retarded age of thriller writing.

While Batman deals with a series of mysterious murders, Jason has to infiltrate a rising Italian gang called Passione and take out its elusive leader.

Metal Face from Xenoblade Chronicles.

>>94639803
>>94649261
Mercer is a good one. With him you could do all-out brawls in the streets where the JLA/Avengers have to join up to take him down, or low-level Mystique-style long cons where he's disguising/assimilating and manipulating organizations to get what he wants.
This relatively obscure Mario villain would be great in the DC universe. His goal was to keikaku his way into jumpstarting a Crisis and remaking the multiverse as its god.
>>94659916
Stick to Hex Maniac and stay away from psycho moms.
I wasn't sure whether to go with this guy or Delilah, but I think he's probably the more dangerous of the two despite being less malevolent. He hands out magic powers to random people, and half the time the people who he's gifted go mad with power and try to usurp the monarchy. On top of that, physical artifacts that tap into his power drive most normal people insane with prolonged exposure.
On the other hand, I'm not sure how well he'd work with capes, since in his original setting he's pretty much the only name in the supernatural game, and most humans can't do anything against him. There's also that "Death of the Outsider" thing coming up that's probably going to retcon/reveal some new weakness in a few months, so who knows.

>>94650233
Wait a minute....
How many barbed wires did you say he had?
>>94651921
I think Pennywise is a problem that would have to be dealt with by Billy, not Shazam. he'd need to stand up to him, knowing full well that Pennywise could eat him/drive him insane/ Suck him into a pocket dimension.
He'd have to stand up to what is essentially an Elder God, as a human child, with nothing but the belief he could do it as a weapon.

Though I don't know how well that flies in the west since she's still pretty much a fascist dictator for half the series.
She'd make one hell of a Street Judge though.
>>94666257
Satsuki is odd because the only reason she went full dictator is because it was the fucking longest of plays to unseat her mother from her position of covert world domination and her plan to feed the entire world population to the life fibers. All the murder, all the oppression and deception was just part of an infinitely long powerplay. She just had the willpower and discipline to pull it off without flinching.
Kind of odd, really. After the fact she seemed to have settled down quietly though, so maybe she's still truly good underneath it all.

I felt that worked well in Iron Man 2 with the government trying to take Tony's work.
A corporate mogul who uses a friendly, charitable, and personable nature as a mask to hide fucked up experiments from behind closed doors, her secret dealings with eldritch aliens, and the fact that she's batshit insane to boot...
I thought Lusamine was a lame villain at the end but I'll be damned if she wouldn't work well in a number of Cape stories. Maybe she starts as a corporate rival of Iron Man's, or a rogue fought by Supes or Kara, or maybe even a Green Lantern villain. Though considering how severe an invasion of incredibly powerful extradimensional beings would be, maybe she'd be an overall Justice League/Avengers baddie.
>>94663150

Iron Man 2 wasn't Disney.
>>94667767

>>94668034
Her school was built from the ground up to be a totalitarian mess, and then she built a city complete with a massive slum around it.
>>94668084
Well, you were asking how she would manage that in a world with superheroes.
On the other hand, if it's a private institution she can run it in whatever way she feels like.
You could just make her a female Doctor Doom, complete with her own country too.
>>94668244
She'll likely appear in a world in which her anime actually aired and then all the otaku nerds will trip over themselves to be the first in line to lick her boots and get stepped on.

>>94641592
I'd prefer Kreia in capeshit.
>>94669170
He's still nothing to Superman, Green Lanturn, Flash or even Batman on a physical level. BUT he is also kinda cleaver and his menace should be limited to the proliferation of his Viruses and the license that he got superpowers from the being infected.
>>94669736
>Even Batman.
Nigga please.
Wesker moves far far faster than the human eye can perceive. So fast he appears to teleport. And he can easily dodge automatic gunfire, which is considered a difficult task for Bats to do. Wesker is also strong enough to take on and kill a tyrant hand to hand on top of near instant regeneration.
If a bald business man who really likes the color green is considered one of the Justice League's main enemies then there's no reason a matrix cosplayer can't be a JL enemy.
>>94670589
First off Lex is only a physicaly threat when he busts out Superman's plot convent weakness of kryptonite or he boots up in a stupidly powerful warsuite that lets him rival Superman in direct power. Wesker may be a mutant capable of killing other mutants bear handed but its not like he can fly to Jupiter in 6 seconds. Hell even in Resident Evil he kept beaten horribly by a bunch of cops and throwing boulders is pretty tame for normal people in DC. Besides Wesker was always more of a threat when he wasn't personally fighting.
>>94635653
Dan could work as basically a more egotistical Arcade that tries to con heroes into playing his deadly games by having people's lives on the line.
>>94671252
Kamen Rider actually had some pretty fun bad guys. Hell the forest itself from Gaim would have been a fun villain.
Can take away people reasons for living or just out right kills one shadow, which in turn will kill them. The metaverse can be a broken thing.
>>94663320
Really, any version of Rasputin would make a great cape villain.
>evil wizard who's well versed in old world magicks
>is about as ambiguously indestructible as Michael Myers
>can manipulate royalty and women through charisma alone, despite being a disgusting peasant
I'm surprised the tall tales said about him haven't made him as infamous of a public domain villain as Dracula, or even Al Capone with all the gimmicky gangster knock-offs he's inspired.
>>94671770
Rasputin is probably one of the best users of the power of dick
>>94671770
In Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Summoner, he's an Android from the far future who fights with giant nesting dolls as well as sorcery.
>>94671148
Everyone in the JL would wipe the floor with Wesker on a one to one physical match, except Batman. When it comes to hand to hand Bats is just a very skilled martial artist, but still a human one. In a battle of the wits however I don't doubt Bats would run circles around Wesker because as smart as Wesker is, he's also really fucking stupid and cocky.
>>94671770
Real life Rasputin wasn't so much "evil' as much as an anti-hero Chad who used his influence to fuck bitches. He was a dick but not particularly evil, the Russian people hated him because his whole existence basically undermined the Tzar who was seen as week and having no clue how to actually run a country.
He also may or may not have cucked the Tzar.
>>94671854
Mai Nigga. Many on /co/ don't know about, let alone play any Megaten games.
>>94637550
Depends on who she's up against.
In the Marvel U she'd fly under the radar of most even if her Youma had to fight street level heroes in the street and mutants get blamed for her bullshit...though powerscale wise she might be a major threat to Stephen Strange. Once she makes a big move its all downhill.
In DC her mooks could be a close range threat to Superman if he gets careless. And they could drain a lot of juice from him, holy fuck they could.
>>94671942

Perfect as a Winter Soldier Villian. Mini-Series of Bucky being sent to hunt him down in the late 80s still mind controlled, lotta action, espionage, metal gears; Venom Snake would give him a big ol speech of not being the puppet (Patriots/Big Boss) after breaking his conditioning temporarily.
