Why is this one of the few cartoons set in Canada?
Why do Americans hate us?

Hell, even Canadian cartoons are usually set in the USA or a nondescript location.

Because canada's cartoons are infamously bad and don't deserve good representation. Maplefucker.
>>
>>94631175
Being set in Canada automatically obliges you to play up the stereotypes to differentiate it from those tanks and their manifest destiny.

Or trying to sell a show with a location that not ambiguously American is hard.
>>
The supercomputer is in Canada in ReBoot if that counts for anything

I still don't understand why they change Diana from love interest to step-sibling, but left all the chemistry
>>
>>94631175
People want to watch media that relates to them so many Americans will be less interested in a piece of media that isn't set in America or stars an American character. If a Canadian program wants to access the larger American market market they will down play the more Canadian aspects of a show so it is more well received abroad, this is also why we are seeing more China pandering since that market recently opened up.

>>
>>94631761

No, in Ben 10 Gwen was family from the start, on the Martin Mystery Diana was Martyn's fiance on the original Comic. There is something weird about it. Maybe a Fiance was a bit too much for a show like that, but they could had gone with girlfriend and call it a day.
>>
>>94631622
I'm assuming for the same reason as Ben 10 or Mighty Magiswords: to prevent shipping nonsense and focus on the story

Kinda, media made in a certain country doesn't always have the goal of being available in multiple markets and is often made for people in the country it was made in. Some do have the intent of reaching many different countries around the world but are made for a primary audience like a lot of American made media while others were made with their own Country in mind but find unexpected success abroad like a lot British and Japanese media.
>>
>>94631175
>Why is this one of the few cartoons set in Canada?

Because no one wants a show set in Italy like the original comics.
>>
>>94632447
Ok their intention was to prevent shipping between the two leads but because they didn't know the depths to which the internet will sink it failed miserably

Would've been a miracle when an actual non-fanservice-shilled anime is set in the Canadian landscape before Half-Life 3 became a thing.

ANYWAYS, here are a few cartoons set in "A Fucking Leaf."

-Being Ian (Burnaby, BC, also known as Canada's answer to Detroit)
-Johnny Test (Somewhere in Canada)
-Crash Canyon (Alberta)
-Braceface (Elkford, BC (Yes, that's a real place))
-What About Mimi? (BC)
-Total Drama (Ontario)
-Yvon of the Yukon (Hint: The last word)

>>
>>94632862

It's not an idyllic obsession dipshit. It's just business. American's make cartoons set in America unless they have a reason not to. America is a huge market. 10 times larger than Canada. Hell California alone is as big as Canada. Canadians want their cartoons to be marketable in America so they can tap into that much larger possible revenue stream. So they either set them in America or don't talk about where they're set to hopefully make them more marketable.

If someone really went to the trouble of faking screenshots for an unaired pilot that had to do with ben and gwen being lovers instead of cousins, they would have fucking drawn them kissing, or hugging or even holding fucking hands.

Anything at all, but no the screencaps just show ben, gwen and max in a store aisle.

EEnE has one particular episode where they take some cracks at Canadians, the one with the turkey basters they sell as "Canadian Squirt Guns". There was probably more Canadian ribbing in other episodes, but I can't remember any off the top of my head. Another thing is that in an interview, I recall Danny saying that the show didn't even air in Canada, so I'm sure they were very intentionally setting in in America where the audience was
